I have the petty and it's very nice. Even though it's a small knife you may want to start with something sturdier. Also to really practice your skills you should use a Chef's style or gyuto. If you like a smaller knife I'd lean more to a 210mm wa gyuto.
i am a aspiring 17 year old kid trying to become a chef, working in a decent kitchen, the people i work with tell me its time i get a knife. would you say that the masamoto KS wa petty would be a good starter? it looks very similar to the gyuto.
