  • the girl next door?

  • @TheLaCase I guess Robert decided to improvise for whatever reason..

  • Many many Soviet citizens listened to groups such a Led Zep, with underground connections.

They didn't want to drop the bomb on the west, because they would not get the music they loved so much. (The mandolin is a favorite of the Russians.)

This song touched the Russian soul, more than any political discussion ever could do.

Oh, the power of music and how it can touch the heart of any child of God.

  • Its a really great song, the pieces just fit well...

  • I used to get way to faded to the last minute of this song

  • number One Band.Forever.

  • Still one of my favorite tunes

  • @RisingSon011 I Grew up with zeppelin, i was 8 in '69 when my older brother turned me on to zeppelin 1, it blew my young mind! i was 16 in '77 when i saw them opening night at the garden 6/7/77 doing the song remains the same, it was the greatest concert of my life! ive bought every zep album the day they were released and still listen to them, except now on cd, everyone is able to listen to them as they get introduced to the band, whether 8 or 80, it does make you a little special

  • I was at that MSG for that show in 77 with Jannette McDonald (another story). This prformance is 77 NOT 75.

  • @Skydog75 i was at the garden opening night 6/7/77 and jimmy wore his white zoso suit, my brother saw all 6 nights and he didnt wear his black suit at all, this is actually from the earls court show, check out the zeppelin double. dvd, it has this song, going to california, bron yaur stomp, in my time of dying, trampled underfoot and stairway, all from the earls court show. they did do this song at the garden in the middle of the show during the acoustic set, just not this version.

  • Lovely, loose performance. Just right. I saw them in '77 at MSG and they were just monsters!

Although '73-75 i think they were at top of their game.

  • Oh man ♫☆❤♫ I love it ...very very fantastic :-))

  • life, is one thing bout the good old day's

  • It's just so fucking good.

  • John Paul Jones is a multi-instrumentist, here he uses the bass pedalier of his organ while he plays mandolin at the end , first time I thought it wasJohn Bonham who took the bass!

  • THE MIGHTY MIGHTY MOTHERSHIP!

  • This is a great deal better than the album version. It's much more heart-felt and beautiful. Jimmy Page.

  • ...ten people without soul...

  • My heart beats like this.

  • I usualy hate whinny comments about how sucky the music industry is nowadays. my attitude is always more like-what the hell? let people listen to w.e the fuck they want. we know todays music is mostly shit- THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE. comparing todays music w/ Led Zep, Pink Floyd etc. is an insult in itself- bc to me theres no comparison. but when I listen to this live video and start crying the realization that I will never experience something this amazing in person really puts me in a whinny mood.

  • @wtfKelly28 Not trying to compare but Phish is an amazing LIVE band. I bought their cd's and didnt care for them but went to a live show and WoW! Also The Dead is still pretty dang good for being in their 70's also a LIVE band. Please while they are alive check them out.

  • i really believe this is a top 10 zepp song, i never used to think that, i always just said; "what a nice little tune they wrote there" but after years and years, i think it's come full circle, and i just realize that it is pure genius, and how about that mandolin work by J.P.J. at 3:15

  • @flyvibe71 You really just need to hear the How the West Was Won live version or maybe this version, and then you know how good the song is. It's a favorite of mine as well

  • ole, ole y ole uaughhhhhhhhh

  • Led Zeppelin are gods.

  • love the way he says dOOOOwwwwNNNNN

  • Who let the 10 Bieber fans on this board.

  • I wish I could play a 1/4 as well as Jimmy can, I'd be ok.

  • Greatest musical regret of my life? Being just slightly too young to have ever seen Zep in concert.

  • I love this song <3

I do have to say though that it wasn't Robert's best vocal performance, but then again, this was probably during the middle of the concert and usually your voice starts to tire out

Gotta love Jimmy's riffs and the intro into the song, and Jonsey was rocking that mandolin

  • he left me with this song playing...

  • ''How The West Was Won''...is the DVD this is from, I think, don't feel like getting up to check...

  • What DVD is this from, does anyone know?

  • @Nonyabusiness696

    How the west was won

  • brings back a lot of memories of my younger long haired days, and im only 20 right now

  • such an important message in this song

  • @wintersnowboard What?BTW its good but the slide guitar really completed the mood of this song.imo

  • @enos218 yeah youre right, and im not 100% sure but i think its about segregation/discrimination partly

  • @enos218 supposedly, its about the way they were treated in the south in the 60s/70s since the people down there saw people with long hair as hippies, and people who associated with blacks, who at the time, anyone who associated themselves with them were viewed as evil. What slide guitar? lol, JPJ is playing a mandolin.

  • why is this song of theirs never on the radio?

  • I don't know how I'm gonna tell you I can't play with you no more...... : ) One of the greatest rock bands ever....

  • Thats the way I get a natural high

  • The combination of the beautiful guitar playing and the way that Plant sings this song is so lovely. It is profoundly melancholy, yet happy at the same time.

  • Ugh just amazing as always, the talent might as well be beaming out of each member on stage.

  • Led Zeppelin o meu amor é enorme!!

mto obrigado por terem feito a historia do Rock N" Roll!!!

  • the more i listen to the almost 40 years old music the more i wonder how the music can suffer from so sad cycles of lack of inspiration,it really seems the nowadays music is so entangled with this sad ,empty world...too sad

  • Maybe the best version of any song ever

  • LED-ZEPPELIN is the GREATEST band EVER to walk this planet..... hands down !!!!

  • Oh yes it does count, Urdumb !!!!! Strideeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer !!!!! :-)

  • Thank you daddy for educating me with songs and bands like this...thanks to you I can be oroud to say that I learned something from music :3

  • ...it's songs like this, and Thank You etc, from the same group that also brings you Whole Lotta Love, and Dazed and Confused that make LZ the greatest band in history...

  • Has anyone else noticed that in these 'live' Zep postings there is always 9 dislikes on the like bar??

Is it intentional, and if so why 9 on each one, what does it mean??

And if NOT intentional,...well then,...that's just creepy. BOO!!

  • @wyzapple The 9 dislikes are from Justin Beiber.. :-)

  • @wyzapple The 9 dislikes are from Justin Bieber :-)

  • Comment removed

  • @wyzapple The 9 people who hit the "dislike" button were obviously just a little TOO HIGH and did it accidently while trying to hit the "like" button, because there is no way anybody can dislike this song.

  • This <3

  • Jesus this song is beautiful/heart wrenching.

  • @LedHeadTillDeath Why thank you, darling.

  • For a rock band Zepplin had the ability to ding thoughtful lyrics with softer tunes. Excellent song this one. Thanks for posting this gem.

Cheers and wish everyone a good 2012. Peace and love to all. That's the way it ought to be . . .

  • this song brings back fond memories of when i was a kid smoking weed and having keg parties in the woods!!!! light the fire, smoke 1 up, grab a beer and put this on and all is right with the world!!! absolutley beautiful song!!! i want it played at my funeral!!! PEACE!!!

  • JUSTIN BIEBER DISLIKE THIS WITH HIS DISNEY'S FRIENDS

  • I am a 60 year old chick and I WAS there at many of their concerts, and when I listen to their music I close my eyes and imagine being there again.....and it is lovely.

  • @lkw1287 that must have been so sweet!! ♥ I've seen page and plant once, not too long ago.. but the vibes from the sixties and seventies.. they seem so unique!!! sometimes I so hardly wish I had lived that times too!!!! (((*)))

  • Actually, 544,900 of the views are from me :-)

I really enjoy it even when I am not high.

  • im pretty young and i never saw zeppelin, and (unfortunately) i probably never will, but when im high i close my eyes and pretend i was there

  • @urdumbfo yes it dose bro, as i do that as well.!!

  • @urdumbfoo yeah man. can you see me there too

  • @urdumbfoo "Getting High" will only serve to destroy your future. I saw Zeppelin in the 70's... You don't have to be high on drugs to enjoy great music.

  • This is the Heaven!

  • damn, zeppelin is too good. in grade six i was the only kid listening to zeppelin my one friend always jokingly made fun of me for it , now finally after 7 years i got him hooked to led zeppelin , he fuckin loves them

  • This is pure rok'n Roll, chilling the skin, as in the 70 "s. How I miss that...

  • This music pushed me through some rough times and improved my guitar style. Hooray for music that surrounds you and builds that beautiful world behind your eyes.

  • Love the harmony at 4:55, Jimmy's expression afterwards is priceless. :)

  • one of the best bands ever, go ask your parents

  • Hard to believe they had that other side to them,in the 70's.

  • For Ryan. Love ya, and forever will, my brother.

  • Seni!!!!! Ačiū už nesveiką įrašą :)))))))

  • THANK YOU.........PEACE

  • There is just something with Led Zeppelin that makes them different to all of bands. There Music just feels so calm and brings out a vibe or whatever its hard to explain.

    Anyway they are F$#cking amazing

  • To evanhippieman, toataly right no comparrison.Led zep simply amazing!!!

  • 9 dislikes?

  • So beautiful! Makes me wanna cry and smile at one time. I have loved this song for longer than I will admit. We women are like that :) I do love JPJ, but I do not, however, love his famous (or infamous) onion shirt.

  • If you did not like this, there something or someone you need to check. Start with the mirror, then your shrink! Too bad weeks later a bad car wreck, a few more bad things stopped this happy band and notice. The one not among the living, got no showing in this. Also, keep in mind how talented JPJ is. Working those pedals and carrying the song with his lead. Zep was king of their day. RIP John...

  • real musicians

  • sorry...

eu quis dizer a línguaa: americana!

    XD

  • Who in the world could possibly dislike this video. This is artistic creativity, entertainment, and beauty at its best.

  • Gonna be singing this tune at open mic night at my local pub. Starting with the original album version, but working up to this fantastic live rendition in a few weeks!

  • Is on the world any instrument which John Paul Jones can't play on.?

  • @kreciu1998 I bet Jonesy is a wicked bassoonist also lol . I would not be surprised

  • @kreciu1998 Nope.

  • Beautiful, love it !

  • la musica mas Hippie ever xD

  • I love Robert and his tamborine!

  • Que homem sensual!!!

  • Man, It's amazing this song!!

    Led I miss you!

I'm from Brazil and I love all the american classics!

  • @Sama075063 These guys are British bro!

  • nothing comes close to these lads

  • About 20 British bands and 20 American bands made the greatest impact in a cultural aspect that changed the world until about 1980. Then Ronald Reagan became president and John Lennon was killed we were done for after that,

  • I love how Page first created tension with the intro chords then relaxed into the cool feel of the song.

  • GODS!

  • Fav. Zep song

  • @IIOverkill How do you mean?

  • its strange t, but Jimmy Page 's gentle way of handling an acoustic guitar is in stark contrast to his almost violent way of handling an electric one

  • @RisingSon011

    Very true! Good observation.

  • 5:31 Connection...

  • Doesn't this song go by a different name?

  • Needs the pedal steel slide guitar.Still great though.

  • im satisfied to sit here working all day long, you're in the darker side of town...

  • 8 assholes dont diserve ears

  • absolutely beautiful song.

  • I think those three should do shows like this, say once a year, in New York and London, this acoustic setup, lots of old tunes last bout 1:45 or two hrs. Charge $150 a head and couch tour it. I'd go.

  • @Justin72walker

a good thought indeed.....and very unlikely, considering the past 20 plus yrs of their history......but, a good thought none the less.

  • Is this in open G chord? anybody know?

  • @interstategar its in open g tuning. and no its not an opoen g chord. why would you wanna know anyway

  • @TehSxeNerd

Maybe to learn it and play it?

And, it is an open G chord...just not the typical inversion played ala Eagles etc.... G, B and D ...regardless of order is a G major chord.

  • Just gotta say glad, for once, that I was born when I was born. Got to see them twice. They are so much better live. Thank u Gawd for letting me grow up a "Valley" brat! lol

  • thumbs up if if this is your top 5 zep songs!!

  • Anything Zep does is my top fav.

  • Wow. Even sitting down, RP is just the best frontman of all times. That voice ! Just an amazing band, it doesnt get much better than this.

  • Zeppelin was one of the few bands who were able to catch onto the universal energy and create such beautiful sounds.

    Dig it.

  • nice

  • epic

  • These guys are the Rods of gock.

  • Interesting, What concert is this from?

He says "my friend, the girl next door" i have never heard a version where he says "girl" it is always "boy. Granted he does somewhat improvise from concert to concert but I found this interesting.

  • @buerm009 maybe the second or third day at earls court in 75

  • John Paul Jones jacket looks like it was knitted by a fairy on acid

  • GREAT!!! One of the BEST live performances I've seen! The sound quality (for 1975) is damn good, too. 5*****.

  • I saw this tour. When Jimmy, John and Robert sat and did an acoustic set, I was blown away. I feel blessed to have seen them three times. I know so many who wished they had. Thank you for sharing this awesome live track.

  • @pegcoats73160

yer lucky! envy :) in a good way.

  • me encanta, simplement me encanta algo suave para viajar

  • This a groovy little track.

  • My loving song from Led Zeppelin III Thank Led Zepp M.A.J. Czech Republic

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • heres a fun thing 2 do try 2 find a zep song that isn't good

  • ZEP N WEED IS ALL I NEED=)

  • Can anyone say.... John Paul "Fucking" Jones?? Playin' bass with his feet while he plays the mandolin like some freakin' middle age, Jesus Bard.... god I love Zeppelin
