@Camden606 Talent that sells 750,000 copies of an album and fills 40,000 seat venues as the headliner versus talent that sells 100,000 copies of an album and fills 1,500 seat venues as the headliner isn't about opinion, it's about the academic fact of wide recognition of superior musical talent, usually composing talent.
@fnj006 Music is art and a subjective experience. Your argument makes no sense, and I can't even think of any example in any other field where it could apply. Even if music were judged by the number of albums sold, the amount of tickets bought and the number of views on youtube, it still wouldn't add up. You'd be neglecting the countless artists who draw inspiration from it. As well everyone else who look for deeper meaning in musical expression, regardless of the alleged 'weak hooks'.
@j0rdan719 Every endeavor can be viewed as art. Even breaking up rocks. It's a limiting word in Western culture. Anyway...my argument makes no sense to you because you're probably not that musical a person. Do u play an instrument well? I'm not saying everyone who's sold 750k albums is talented, but that talented people USUALLY sell 750k albums. U guys just don't seem to understand the concept of talent, i.e. brain suited very well for a particular task. And I'm talking about music, not lyrics.
@fnj006 Who cares? This a song about a guy burning his wife alive, sung by a guy famous for getting naked on stage. How many people who have sold 750k albums have done either of those things? Anyway, talent and success are super subjective. Most well-selling albums sound like overproduced shit to me, and the artists who make them seem like hacks who make money by adding a layer of professionalism to sounds they rip off from other bands.
agreed. that's fucked up logic. who cares. scratch acid was(is) a great band. not an arena rock band.

But to each his own, I guess.
