This city aint that bad, it has higher crime percentages becuase its a relativly small city, so if a few murders happen in a city with only 100,000 thousand people its gonna be among the highest murder rates, all you need is a small city where some shit goes down every now and then and its among te leaders in crime rates, even though its worst neighborhoods dont compare with the worst of major cities.

To get an idea of how bad it is, the poverty level here is like 85%... not exaggerating. The campus and downtown are nice everything else sucks. I think Chicago is better but bigger. I think someone just got shot over a varsity jacket here... and that type of story is common place.

i grew up in youngstown and loved everything about the city. im proud of all the different people i met, cultures i was exposed to, and lessons i learned. first, its not just black and whites: i have several puerto rican, asian, and middle eastern friends. its also not always about drugs and whatnot-in every city there are disputes. if you really want to know about youngstown-do not get your information from this guy. he certainly doesnt represent the entire mentality of youngstown.

Youngstown was considered a dangerous city when it was ruled by whites. The mob protected (by a corrupt judicial system) made Youngstown a dangerous city to live. We just have very short memories. Once the steel Mills declined- so went the economy needed to support all the business downtown. Then came the Mall; it was just another slap in the face.I worked in the summer youth jobs program around 1973 or so. I was too busy to hang on the streets.
