  • They just dont make decent music like this anymore.

  • As a child at my grandma's knee I listened to Johnny Cash, the Carters, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams et al, but by far my favorite of all time is Johnny Cash. His music touches your heart, makes your head bob and your toes tap. He was truly one of a kind and with his passing the world lost one of the few truly great musical geniuses. I'm 62 now and grew up in the rock and roll era, but I've always had a special place in my heart for the Man in Black. He is simply the very best.

  • R.I.P my friend great sounds forever

  • i love this song...especially this particular performance...Cash is wonderful of course...but the guitarist does an amazing job too! And Cash even gives him props during the song!

  • He gave us all ,GREAT music to listen to after he left!!!!!!!!

  • epic

  • Wonderful!

  • Wow, that Jim Solne sure can pick, listen to that, makes me wish, siiiiiiiiiigh!

  • a great Johnny Cash's classic !!

  • Anyone else notice jim has his guitar capo flipped?

  • I much prefer Johnny's version over Rosanne.

  • This is one of my favorite country songs, no matter who sings it, Johnny or Rosanne, or even the version where father and daughter sing this song together, its just a great song. And another thing about great artist like Johnny Cash, he was a humble man, no one else introduced himself when he came on stage, Saying "Hi I'm Johnny Cash" no one else did that but Johnny even tho he didn't need and introduction, and he and the other greats would introduce their band members when they had solos.

  • Shit, that guitarist can play...

  • fuc ya do u hear the guitar picin ... i cant do it but it fucin rocks lol

  • It was not the flat top box, but ...........the little dark headed boy could play.........

  • type it like this so they can understand --ssslllooowww llleeeaaarrrnnneeerrrsss.

    dyslexics untie!...(unite)

  • For the moody assholes.

  • Very good, but I really like Rosanne's version better....

  • @RM1SS There is only one version as Johnnie Cash wrote this song. His daughter sings it well and others do too but this is Johnnie Cash's song from the lyrics to the music.

  • one of my favorits

  • check out my rosanne cash version from the johnny cash music festival

  • I see where his Rosanne got her beautiful nose.

  • 17 may be against using a capo.

  • who would dislike the best of the best?!?!?!?!?!? 17 people listen to rap and hateful music don't have parents to raise them right and don't know what music is

  • how can any one not like such melodious music! anyways lets not discuss those who don't like this awesome piece, lets praise the Musical Maestro! Easily one of the BEST rythmic songs of ALL TIMES!

  • awsome

  • I love Johnny there is no doubt. However... at this point in his career I think he sold his soul to Nashville... or whatever.

  • @JanesJungle2002 ..." everything " . . . has its price , . . . the finest native american brother I have ever met to date

  • Kids now days can't produce the quality of music Johnny has.

So they went to rap and sex and swearing to express their mentality...

  • Nice song, I've always liked this one, thanks for posting!!

  • 15 people don't know good music when they hear it.

  • @ImmoralOral1 Congrats on making the same joke that you can see on every other Youtube video. Wise up and get a sense of originality. You may as well be one of these people whosay they're like 16 and love good music. Idiot.

  • @MZophiel Apparently 1 person doesn't recognize irony when he reads it.

  • @ImmoralOral1 Oh sorry the irony was lost on me because I'm afraid I can't discern emphasis on one word or another from merely reading them on a screen. Explain to me how I'm supposed to know you were being ironic/sarcastic?

  • @MZophiel You're taking this awfully personally aren't you? I'll try and explain - when something is overused or beaten to death, like a catchphrase for instance (ie "oh no she didn't" or "Not!"), you can use it in a sarcastic or ironic way to evoke humour from the banal. Regrettably, YouTube does not support text enhancements or the "sarcasm" font.

  • @ImmoralOral1 On the contrary the fact you explained you were being ironic actually makes me support your viewpoint, however hard it was to distinguish. Agreed. Youtube should support italcisation, bold font etc.

  • @MZophiel LOL yeah I guess I should have seen that falling flat. It seemed more clever in my mind.

  • @ImmoralOral1 ......the real irony is that you would think anyone would care what you thought

  • @rajulyra Um...that's not irony, but thanks for the random comment.

  • Besides "Big River", this is my favorite Johnny Cash song.

  • Its a good one - first heard this man in the 50's - liked him then and even better as the years passed by. Miss your style now big boy. Graham Melb Aus

    FRans

  • greatest singer of all time+greatest guitar player of all time=Johnny Cash & Jim Soldi

  • 50s-70s had some of the greatest songs ever written. Though I wish I could have been around in those days, I am glad I can still listen to and enjoy these songs as much as people did then. R.I.P Mr. Cash. You were and always will be a legend.

  • todays music can't hold a candle to the old timers

  • heeeelllllllll yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee amazin

  • Johnny Cash will never be equaled.

  • johnny cash is a step above god

  • 1029 likes 15 dislikes classic! gotta loves haters

  • Is this John Cash Jr. on guitar?

  • @ffairlane57 he says at about :50 seconds "Thats Jim Soldi" referencing the guitar player

  • @KidRockEatsSmegma why make a vulgar comment like that about a legend. Let Mr Cash rest in piece

  • Man, you assholes are moody. When I was a fan back when he was on the radio all the time, I got picked on. I guess some of us have taste and it takes the rest of mainstream America awhile to catch up. Two words - slow learners!

  • @grandpadewey picked on I was listening to Mr Cash in the late sevenities ,,no problemo,,,the man is just below god,,,but no disrespect to the allmighty.....he is number 1,,,,,,,

  • @grandpadewey I used to get picked on for listening to Johnny cash but I...sorted it out Haha

  • @grandpadewey Sorry, I wasn't around then. One things for sure though Johnny is better than thecrap that gets played on the radio these days.

  • @grandpadewey That's because Johnny Cash was ahead of his time!

  • @grandpadewey ...I was a slow learner but i'm with you now pal ;)

  • @grandpadewey

could not have said it better my self

  • @grandpadewey hey my man,, i was not,,,one of them ,slow,learners,,,

  • @grandpadewey Well said my friend.

  • @grandpadewey I was a Mr Cash fan since I was a Schoolboy back in 69,, no slow learner was I my friend,,my mates said WHO,, are you listening to,, I said ,,the MAN ,I was only a boy,,, but I knew he was MR CASH,,,

  • 15 peopel are deaf

  • Elvis was the KING but Johnny was the GOD

  • john u are my hero

  • @alb4369 Bloody hell, it was not! If anything, it meant GUITAR. Jeez.

  • @alb4369 A Tennessee flattop box is a regular acoustic guitar with steel strings that can be played with or without amplification. If it has nylon strings, its mostly known as a classical guitar. You seriously need to get your mind out of the gutter

  • I would give so much $ to be able to see Mr.Cash! One of the few things I will never be able to do and it kills me. See you on the other side Johnny.

  • I love the tune and the picture!

  • Didn't Roseanne sing this song also? Did they ever duet?

  • Love this songs brings me back to the early 90's when my uncles and aunts would get togather play cards listent o music and drink beer. My uncle always played this song. It crazy how many country fans dont know this song.

  • i would have stood up if Johnny reached his hand out to me, man what a guy.

  • 14 retards who wouldn't know good music if it bit them on the ass disliked this video

  • @DrunkEdgeSociety Forgive them. Its not their fault they are idiots and they don't know what's good music and good musician-legend is. Johnny would ..He was very forgiving and good hearthed. Love him. If I would have to pick, or regret who i would like to meat in my life that would be ( past, present, future) for sure Johnny Cash. RIP

  • @DrunkEdgeSociety Totally Agreed!

  • j adore

  • First time I've seen Cash play with an electro-acoustic...

  • Great song! Jim Soldi is a gifted guitar player. Now, and for the last number of years, he plays with a group of talented performers in The Eve Selis Band. "Passin Thru" really showcases his abilities along with Marc Intravia's.

  • love this song

  • This is primo. Best vid I've seen of this song! Yes, amplified acoustic 6 string played by Jim Soldi. Prefect, not a buzz on any note. It's a good mix but Monophonic. Much of the best old stuff is. We can get over that. This is clean and U can play it LOUD. Soundman on this recording was dong hjs job.

  • OMG!! I always remember this song from the 80's when i use to watch my famly party...whooo hooo!!!!!

  • I can't believe that his daughter Roseanne didn't know that he did this one.

  • his last album "Hurt" is the most moving I have ever heard...to be so near death & yet to be so much in love with life must be a lesson to us all.

  • Mr Johnny Cash what more can be said ....Thank you

  • Johnny Cash--My IDOL. Cheers

  • klhbuohb

  • Jim Soldi is one of the greatest guitar players around. Thanks for great memories! It was fun to see this video...

  • Awesome song. Incredible man. I mis him.

  • what a wonderful video, thank you for sharing :)

  • @n1lrt I only heard Johnny say, "That's Jim Soldi!" too.

  • Super version of this one. Not played often but that makes it even more of a pleasure to watch.

  • @Hippekuln was Gail Foley (as Johnny Cash said on the clip) also known as Jim Soldi? I just did another Google search of Jim Soldi and Johnny Cash and see that he played for Johnny for 4 years as well as others.

    Thanks for the answer.

  • @n1lrt I dont know where you heard that. He says "That's Jim Soldi" at one point. Only thing i really heard.

  • @Hippekuln

the thing that sort of concerns me is that the person playing the guitar with Johnny does not look like Jim Soldi. But 50 years from now it will not make any difference.

It is a darn good song.

  • @Hippekuln agreed I heard nothing like gail foley

  • @n1lrt i heard jim soldi

  • Someone wanted to know the name of the guitar player accompaning Mr. Cash. I get it as Gail Foley or something like that but I do not get anything with a Google search nor a You Tube search.
