i just did the clutch on my cr 125. but when i put the pressure plate on i did push it in like you said. then i put all the springs on and finished it, but when i went up to the clutch and pulled it in it felt free. why is that?
my bike slowley creeps foward and have to give it a lot of gas to get going. when i stop i have to use one of my brakes to the fullest power and hold about half throttle to keep it going. i thank its my clutch. what should i do ive thought about changeing my plates and basket but that alone is $230 OR IS IT SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS SPRINGS. please help
what years the bike ? I didnt even notice if it was a 250 which takes a judder spring..would REALLY HELP to explain what makes the two ODDBALL frictions must be obvious since no description of the difference
all great info. but you could have warped the pressure plate. the most simple part. put the bolts in evenly and take them out evenly. turn each bolt 4-5 tiimes and move the one across
this video was so much help i race atv and been paying for new cluch to be put in so ,sorry, for the mechanic luck i be putting all my in for now thanks ..have any on carb atv setting,,
i have a 1991 cr250 the clutch wont work (wont run in gear and not move) any ideas?? i have a friend that is a mechanic and fixes his sons 5 bikes, he thinks it could have to many clutch rings or what ever theyre called, im not to good with gearboxes and stuff like that
when you tighten things that are ment to be torqed on the should be done in oppesites as they tighten equally
i have a 1989 kx 250 when i start it and put it in gear it don't go or don't even budge when i let the clutch go what do you think is the problem put a new clutch kit in it?
Hey man i gotta Raptor 700R and when im in a high gear like 4th and im cruising and all of a sudden i punch it i hear the engine revving its lungs out as if its idling and i hold it to WOT. but the quad does go but the rear tires are not ripping up dirt as i punch it. is there a big chance my clutch is slipping??? how exactly does a dirt bike or quad behave with a slipping clutch??
I have a 2002 cr 125, and after i take off the clutch cover, when i try to take out the screws, or even try to losen it up, my whole basket rotates, which doesn't allow me to take off the screws holding the pressure plate. how do i keep it from rotating, so i can take off the pressure plate screws?
My dirtbike is giving me problems with the clutch. I increase my rpm's and its not moving like it should. and when I pull the clutch, the bike feels like its slowing down. And when its turned of and I put first gear and pull the clutch, the bike is stuck as if i weren't pulling the clutch.. Is there any way to adjust it?
Eric mentioned the 2 oddball plates, which he installed first and last. I just installed them and didn't notice the odball ones so who knows where they are. Is that an issue? Is there a way visually determine which ones are the oddballs? Honda OEM clutch kit.
Also didn't install the metal plates all flat out or in.
ok so the other day i crashed, when i got up my bike was stalled in second gear so i tried to shift it down into neutral and it would go into neutral but it would keep slipping out. I finally got the bike in neutral. I put a new clutch lever on and tried to start the bike in 1st gear but when i kicked it the bike would move forward but, it would start in neutral fine. I adjusted all of the clutch adjustments but still it wont start in 1st and it wont push in 1st gear with the clutch pulled in?
i just bought an old '81 it 175 and the clutch wont disengage. When i take apart the cover there is amagneto there, do i just keep going and take it apart or is there an easier solution as to why the clutch doesnt work?
i have a ? i just got new clutch springs but for no reason,i just wanted to replace them.when i took out the plates i see they are all in good condition but some of the steel plates have just a little tiny bit of blue and its not all of them, its just like 1 or 2 of them that have it on them and its just a line of blue, the whole plate is NOT blue! when i ride it rides strong,no slipping or loss of power at all.should i still replace them?thanks!
Thanks for the video. that gaskett trick is good info for someone not familiar with doin clutchs.im a privateer and my own mechanic.Today will be my first clutch repair so thanks again.
Hey i have a cr 125 and when i shift into 1st gear and give it gas, i move but it revs a lot. And also i can shift into 2nd gear but not 3rd gear or 4th+. Also if i stop in 1st gear and hold in the clutch and then i let go of the clutch to start moving im still stopped. This happends only sometimes but it does like say every other time i stop. Would this be my clutch? Or would this be something with the gears or something. About 3 people have told me its my clutch but im not sure.
im having the same problem, when i pull the clutch and put in into first it tries to creep forward. Also, i have to let my clutch lever out about 85% of the way before i start moving. if i replace the basket will it fix these things?
don't you have to do a star pattern when you take off the pressure plate? cause if you do it the way you did you can wrap that plate and crack it right?
one question. do you really have to place the friction plates 2 teeth next to the previous? what happens if you dont but just make sure the teeth fits in the grooves?
A quick tip if the o-ring falls out . wash it off with HOT water and dawn or another grease or oil cutting detergent. Throw it in the freezer for 15 minutes. And no it does not hurt the rubber o-ring at all. Also save money on the steel plates just install the fibers. It's not a drag bike so your not sliding the clutch to the 60' mark. Check them with a straight edge but chances are there perfect. A little blue hurts nothing. you can also glass bead them with fine glass if there too glazed.
if u cant kick over ur bike but it will start with a push when its in gear, but yet it will only run for a bit, and every thing sounds normal do u think its clutch plates
If you have your bike in first gear and start it when its cold you will see it kicks forward... thats because the oil's viscosity and molecules between the plates are cold not moving as quick as it would when its warm... resulting in more friction between the plates causing it to grab and jump forward.... sorry didnt mean to comment on ur question 03yz85rider.. but for you... no doesnt sound like plates.
On my 125 when I pull the clutch in the bike stalls unless I give it some gas and I can feel it pushing so its still got some friction I guess. Any advice as to what my problem could be? Sounds like the basket to me but I'm not sure. Its my first bike so any help is appreciated!
The tear down looks pretty simple. I should be able to do it myself
hey true about the o-ring but if it does come off you can use some grease to keep it in the groove when you put it back in ive done that before and and it really does work
and same with my powerband is not working, the bike always bogs would that be from a leaking air flow.. into the carb thru the tube going from the air filter to the carb?
hey, boys i got a question on my KDX 80 it's an 81, i have the same problem with push starting and clutch not working would it be from the heat after a long ride or it from locking at TDC.. what effect would this have on my clutch not working?
when my bike is stopped and i put it in first while holding the clutch it creeps forward. if i replace the clutch plates will this solve my problem, or will i have to replace my basket?
Sounds like you need to check your basket! Check for grooves where the knotches on the plates slide into the basket. Sometimes you can lightly file the grooves down, but it definitely sounds like your basket.

hi i was wondering if you knew what is wrong with my bike when i kick the bike up in nuetral pull the clutch in and as soon as i click it in to first it stalls but if i give it revs and click it into gear its ok do you think i need to replace the clutch thanks
i dont think u got a problem, when ever i kick mine into first i always have a little bit of revs but i have always done that, i dont pay attention when i kick it into first haha, i got a 07 kx250f
@precisionconcepts hey ummm ive found that my clutch slips but only after the bike has been running for about 30 mins. so i wanted to know b/c someone told me that changing the oil will solve this.. which would you reccommend. and is the technique any different to change clutch on a crf230f?? thanks for the help.
@muffinman1111111 Hi there!! I guess you have already solved the problem out with the clutch, have you? I'm now having the same issue that you described. I have removed the clutch cover to clean it from inside since I was not able to see how much oil there was in the engine and after placing the cover back into its place the bike ran fine for a day but now it's doing the same your bike was. Do you have any tip to share with me so that I can fix it up?
@muffinman1111111 just adjust your clutch cable till it don't creep buy backing the cable off or away from the engaged position about 3 turns of the adjustment nut until it stops creeping forward. hint- don't use the screw that's in the clutch lever until you've used the the nut and locknut above your clutch assbly just under the head pipe. use the screw in the clutch lever only to reduce or gice a little slop
Hello, I'm looking T handles, which I've seen of aconsejais marks mac tools, procircuit, beta and snap-on Internet can not see them in part to deser to be very expensive.
Hi, today i went to go ride my KX125, and its stuck in gear. I changed the oil and it still wont go to nuetral nor will it shift to 2nd gear. It will only drive in 1st gear and it has to be pop started because when i hold the clutch in it jumps foward. Could it be that my clutch plates and disks are burned out? Let me know.
they want you to replace the basket and the clutch center if you have the money, but if ur a broke racer like me you can get a little extra out of them if you file them down slightly
yes, like precision concepts said the fiber plates wear grooves on the basket and the steel disks wear grooves on the clutch center. Using a fine file I carefully file down the grooves until they are smooth and polish them with emery cloth. This really helps the arm pump with smooth clutch pull and engagement. Makes it feel like a brand new bike. Make sure you take care not to let shavings fall into the cases.
You know to replace the clutch basket if you pull in the clutch and your bike "creeps" forward. Also when changing the clutch, if the "fingers" on the basket (the knotches where the clutch plates fit in between) are not smooth. The clutch plates can knotch the "fingers" of the basket causing the plates to not be able to separate. I'd check the basket by taking the plates out first and inspecting the "Fingers." Your problem because of the clutch "Slipping" sounds like plates and springs.
hey i have a question about my dirt bike. When i hit the power band on my yz80 it loses power and it will rev high. then it will suddenly just kick in. can this be that i need a rebuild. Can u help. Thanx.
ok thanks alot and i also have a question about how often i should do a top end on my yz250f. im your average rider, clearing all the jumps at the track but not doing any bubba scrubs. i only put about 3 to 4 hours on the bike a month and clean my air filter every 2 or 3 rides and change oil with filter every 5 or 6 rides. some people say to leave the engine alone unless you start hearing funny noises but i dont want the engine to blow up. im only 15 so i would not beable to afford a new engine.
will i start noticing signs if i need new clutch plates or any thing. because if i have my bike off and put it in first gear and pull the clutch in and try to push it it is kinda hard to push at first and then it gets really easy once it starts to move.
if the clutch is in and the back tire does not spin freely, it is a sign your clutch is going out. If the bike is on, in gear, clutch in, and you rev the motor and you can feel the bike slightly creep the clutch is going out.
so, is it the same procedure on a 94 rm125? i priced all the things i need, oil, plates, springs, and a gasket, for $83. does that sound about right? thanks
View the response I left for Stikid305. The procedures are all "The Same" but in the response I left below, some makes/models have the knotched fiber plates and others do not. Also, $83 for a clutch change is a great price!
On the 05-08 CRF450R/X there are two different kinds of "Friction Disks." The two special disks are the first and last to be installed. The two "Odd Balls" are part # 22201-MEB-670, and the 6 "Normal" are 22201-MEN-670. ***Note: Not all makes and models have two different Friction Disks, this bike in the video just happened to be one of them. Sorry for the confusion.
some makes/models don't have the notches in their clutch plates. However if they do, start at any point on the clutch basket taking note where you put the notched tab of the clutch plate, placing the next notched clutch plate two slots over in the clutch basket from the last notch. Its hard to explain in writing but if want to give us a call, dial 877-9-PODIUM ext 2. See you at the races!
@precisionconcepts hi thanks for the great video for the mx dad mechanic its awesome. the clutch case is getting very hot and smells is that a sign i need to replace it?

hey i have an 03 yz 250 just recently i have noticed that my 2nd gear slips sometimes. what could be the problem and what do i need to replace?
alpinestars1111 3 years ago
Hi, today i went to go ride my KX125, and its stuck in gear. I changed the oil and it still wont go to nuetral nor will it shift to 2nd gear. It will only drive in 1st gear and it has to be pop started because when i hold the clutch in it jumps foward. Could it be that my clutch plates and disks are burned out? Let me know.

they want you to replace the basket and the clutch center if you have the money, but if ur a broke racer like me you can get a little extra out of them if you file them down slightly
btownmxer 3 years ago
yes, like precision concepts said the fiber plates wear grooves on the basket and the steel disks wear grooves on the clutch center. Using a fine file I carefully file down the grooves until they are smooth and polish them with emery cloth. This really helps the arm pump with smooth clutch pull and engagement. Makes it feel like a brand new bike. Make sure you take care not to let shavings fall into the cases.

ok thanx you guys are a real big help i will let you know how the clutch turns out . i am going to attempt it in a few days

should i replace the plates and springs or the basket which. would be good
YaMaHa2StRoKe 3 years ago

Can u help. Thanx.
YaMaHa2StRoKe 3 years ago
Sounds like your clutch needs to be changed. That is what we would recommend.

ok thanks alot and i also have a question about how often i should do a top end on my yz250f. im your average rider, clearing all the jumps at the track but not doing any bubba scrubs. i only put about 3 to 4 hours on the bike a month and clean my air filter every 2 or 3 rides and change oil with filter every 5 or 6 rides. some people say to leave the engine alone unless you start hearing funny noises but i dont want the engine to blow up. im only 15 so i would not beable to afford a new engine.

will i start noticing signs if i need new clutch plates or any thing. because if i have my bike off and put it in first gear and pull the clutch in and try to push it it is kinda hard to push at first and then it gets really easy once it starts to move.
muffinman1111111 3 years ago
if the clutch is in and the back tire does not spin freely, it is a sign your clutch is going out. If the bike is on, in gear, clutch in, and you rev the motor and you can feel the bike slightly creep the clutch is going out.

so, is it the same procedure on a 94 rm125? i priced all the things i need, oil, plates, springs, and a gasket, for $83. does that sound about right? thanks
TJScott2012 3 years ago
View the response I left for Stikid305. The procedures are all "The Same" but in the response I left below, some makes/models have the knotched fiber plates and others do not. Also, $83 for a clutch change is a great price!

i dont get it whats the order and how you tell which one is a odd ball plate
stikid305 3 years ago
On the 05-08 CRF450R/X there are two different kinds of "Friction Disks." The two special disks are the first and last to be installed. The two "Odd Balls" are part # 22201-MEB-670, and the 6 "Normal" are 22201-MEN-670. ***Note: Not all makes and models have two different Friction Disks, this bike in the video just happened to be one of them. Sorry for the confusion.

Awesome, thanks man. This is gonna save me alot of money:D

I dont get the tip about the notches? when u put the new clutch in how many notches do u move over?
TriggerGumm 3 years ago
some makes/models don't have the notches in their clutch plates.
