This thing is getting me confused a little bit. so it seems that if you want your mobile phone to have the google voice function, you will have to transfer it to google voice. then you will have to get a new mobile phone number. then you forward your google ported number to this new mobile number again.
Initially, I was excited when I found out that I could port my number to google voice. But after watching this vid, I've concluded that it's waaayyy too much of a hassle. I'd rather just get a new google voice number~~
I wish I could port my Landline/POTS # to Google Voice - and stop paying for POTS service. Then all calls which normally go to my home phone # (which everyone has) could be redirected to my cell phone(s) instead.
@navarredr oh, yes, you call. you can search it online, basically, you transfer your landline number to a cell phone. then because it is a mobile number, google can port it. so it will take you two steps to do it instead of one direct step.
I am leery of that changing my plan and cancelling service with my current provider too. It seems like you now have two competitors for your phone service t. How much all this will cost from my present provider to switch over to google. A good idea would be that google start selling cell phones and they you could circuimvent the who issue and deal competely with them-providing they can sell the cell phones cheap enough so you could easily buy one.
It's not clear to me as to WHEN I cancel my mobile number at my old carrier.
I video mentions cancelling my existing mobile number and then setting up GVoice. Seems backwards. If I cancel my mobile # first, how can calls to my old mobile # get transferred to my GV #?
I would think that I would need to transfer (or is the word 'port', or something else?) my old # to my new GV # first and then cancel my service.
@nccooke if you having problems getting incoming calls when someone call you with your google number and your phone that is link does not get the call you need to go to setting and turn off Call Screening if you need more help just pm.
@starrychloe Because you ported you number to google voice, you need to get a new cell phone plan. Next time, LISTEN TO THE VIDEO FULLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@analyzingfunny Dude, stfu, google gives you a lot of free shit and now the one thing they are somewhat charging for you are complaining about. Other companies can be, and have been doing this kind of stuff for a while, but non have brought it all together and given it to us for free. Be happy with what you already have man.
My Google Voice number is not forwarding calls to my CallCentric number. It was working before I ported the number to CallCentric, and I can call my CallCentric number directly, but when Google Voice calls it (either by trying to make an outgoing call or someone calling my Google Voice number), then the phone does not ring. Please fix.
i dont care if is cost me $ 500 1 time fee, still i'll do it, think about it keep 1 # for life wit out having phone line still can have unlimited text nd voice mail around de world ......is so cool
@cdude100 Your current plan gets cancelled. You pretty much setup an account with Google Voice and they port your old number to that ($20), you setup a new account with your previous carrier (as Google doesn't provide service) with a new number, and Google will forward calls to your old number to your new one and any others you list. There could be cancellation fees with your current provider as well.
If you port your regular phone number (i.e. the phone number that your current Google voice account forwards too) can you add an additional Google voice number which forwards to the number which you have ported?
@Tripp393 no dude port ur # to google voice after is done call ur mobile company u want ur plan back de give u new # de charz u $35 for activities think so all total $55 think about it wit $55 u can have 1 # for life no metta if u dont have ur phone for 6 month still u can have free text nd voice male lol............ is hot
I am sorry this won't be what I will do, I am happy with my Google Voice number, however this would be a GREAT idea is I was switching carriers and I didn't want to port over to the new carrier.
I would like to see more options with the user interface within Google Voice online allowing me to delete more than 10 items at one time, I would also like to view like in Gmail more than 10 at a time.
I love all services Google provides including their Android system. Thank you Google for all you do
omg, this is SO stupid on googles part. what is the point of porting my ATT num over to GV, if I STILL NEED AN ATT ACTIVE CELL LINE TO ROUTE MY GV CALLS THRU????
GV = NOT TRUE VOIP, such as it is on GMAIL (GV plug-in)
When GV becomes true 100% VOIP, then we can all celebrate and say BYE BYE to ATT-Vz-Tmobile, until then...the BIG 3 carriers will keep enslaving us all
If GV becomes true VOIP, then I would only need to pay for a unlim data connection from 1of the big 3 carriers at $30/mo. port my number over from ATT to GV and I'm all set. beats the $80/mo. I'm paying now to ATT for voice + unlim data. technically I dont even need data connection from the big 3. where I reside my county offers FREE wifi. however, since I'm using iPhone 4...then ATT-Apple forces me to have a "data plan" on my service. they will KEEP enslaving us ALL
@Hayaserforeveer ummm ... if you switch to verizon and drop your iPhone on att ... you can keep your number and port it to GV
Google Voice is not a replacement for cellular phone service. You will still always need a cell phone, unless you have a 100 foot wifi repeeter on your car as you drive around the neighborhood still access your wifi at home
So you pay Google $20 to buy your current phone number from your carrier so you no longer have to use the extra free phone number google gave you. I have 2 questions:
1. Will I have to pay AT&T an early cancellation fee? I recently Renewed my contract.
2. Can I dial somebody's real phone number from my cell phone, or do i still have to dial that funky (460) number?
@mout12 if you have Android, you can install Google Voice and it automatically calls people with google voice... You have to enable that, but it's awesome. I think black berry and iPhone have similar features. But I have Android, and everyone I call, sees my google voice number.
@mout12 that's a good point! But that's not to say they will never support that. and most of the time, Pictures are usually forwards in my family... and there not worth looking at to me. So I could care less about picture messages. That's what I use Facebook for. Send then directly from my Android phone, to my facebook. So that everyone can see the picture instead of just one phone number... and you can tag the person you want, in the picture. So picture messages mean nothing to me.
@wwjoshdew lol. I'm a windows phone dude, but I do not use facebook. Nor do many of the ppl i associate with it. We all think we're too sophisticated. I need photo messaging because i get some pretty ridonkulous messages.
I'm just torn right now. AT&T is sooo bad. What I wouldn't give for Google to just become a wireless carrier so I can ditch AT&T.
@mout12 haha! after watching this video and hearing about your service being cancelled, I thought the same damn thing! geesh! they should make an android phone that uses google EVERYTHING. lol. I wouldn't complain. As long as it's as cheap as my 40 dollar unlimited everything plan. you might like my channel. I used to have a ppc 6700. I loved it back in 2008 - 2009. Then the device kept getting older and cooking up roms all the time and LOSING contacts all the time got on my nerves!
This is awesome... But one problem, for the last year or so... I have given EVERYONE my google number. NOBODY knows my actual sprint number... So this won't work for me. Because I would have to give EVERYONE my old sprint number, that is now my Google Voice number. My google voice number is more than a year old and everyoone has it... Plus it's easier to remember. Google voice is awesome. I love being able to block people. They try to call you, "were sorry. the number you are trying to reach..."
:))))))))))))) Answering machine on personal page of each user it will be healthy

"Free calls through 2011" TOTAL BULLSHEET!!!
it should read..
"Hi We're Google and we make $500 dollars a week off of YOUR information, now we're charging for Google Voice to make even more money off you, DICK!"
I say we demand from our lawmakers the rights to sell our information, so we can make 500 bucks a week, then we can easily pay for our Google Voice.

@wwjoshdew I just bought the Samsung Windows7 phone. In my opinion it's the best phone AT&T has... but the downside... no google voice app.
