Gosh I am so impressed by the maturity of the comments on this vid...(sarcasm) @elm1230 AND @mak34237 you should both be ashamed cos you're both quantifying 'stereotypes'. Lifes bigger than that and neither of you should be citing phrases such as 'if you want to suck up to the fucking french' and 'I assume you've been assimilated with the usual inclination to hate the french'. Seriously, if either of you wanted to make a legitimate point you both f-ed up royally as you've both shown prejudice
@originaldarkangel my argument ,as you said I am in need of one, is that for this period the way the duke was portrayed would have been accurate for that of a typical Frenchman. Effeminate materialistic and overwhelmingly rude. Can you back up an argument to the contrary?
@elm1230 Look mate if you want to suck up to the fucking french, that being really sad in it of itself, and defend there sorry ass, feel free I welcome it because it really shows how much of twat you really are. oh, and your not french...really? Why so offended?
@mak34237 I'm not offended I just thought it was a silly comment that's all. If that's how you feel about the french then so be it. I'm neither defending nor reprimanding the french I just wanted to point out the pure ridiculousness of your comment. I guess we shall just end it here since there's no reasoning with you. I imagine you've been assimilated with the usual inclination to hate the french. As a patriotic citizen of the UK that is. What's taken place is past history move on!
@elm1230 So are you saying that in this modern age and in the Elizabethan period the french are not characterized for acting in a way most befitting that of self-idolizing prepubescent girls? I'm English I am born with a dislike of the french I disagree with there inherent need to chew garlic eat frogs and surrender as the first shot is fired, which in fact isn't really the past considering given the choice they would continue to do those things, where are you from by the way America?
@mak34237 Well, i happen to be french and i like your comments. The english insults are always so preposterous and so cliché that it's a blast every time. At least we do know about cuisine and wine. Oh and you can stop buying houses in France as soon as you get enough money to buy on your own grounds. Happy new year old chap : )
Why do they show the duke of anjou portrayed as a cross dresser? I thought that it was his older brother, Henry III, that was rumored to be flamboyant. Did the movie mesh them up together as one to save cost and time. Queen Elizabeth and Anjou were very found of each other and there was a part of her that really did want to marry him, but b/c she was so indecisive and afraid of marriage and giving birth, she finally turned him down. this elizabeth seems to have disregarding the duke very quick.
I'm liking the "LOL Song" at the end of the previous part and the start of this one.. "Ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...! ENGLISH PIRATES!!!!" XD I love it!
As the dude said though, Spain was indeed the most powerful at this time - Kudos to Spain and Her awesome Empire!
@videodude23 I thought he was mocking the queen as well. Once he explained it was clear that he was just a cross dresser. Whether or not he's gay is for you to decide since there are men who cross dress who are NOT gay. though it seemed like the male servants were a little cozy on the floor when they walked in.
what robert did was wrong, i would feel ultimatly betrayed if the man i knew since childhood who was my best friend, counselor, bodyguard, lover i mean everything most trusted person was secretly married and never told me. i would feel ultimatly betrayed. cause if he had truly trusted me and consider me a friend he would never lie to me wiht such a grave lie as to be secretly married, yet slept with me and make mockery of me infront of my entire court. i can never forgive that.
I love you Elizabeth , mi mas grande personage de la historia con todos su defecto y virtudes me complace siempre mirar algo sobre ella la adoro su legado su grandesa y su bellesa
It's a Spanish tune, the title is "Rodrigo Martinez", and it is anonymous. You can find it on nearly every CD with Renaissance Spanish music. In fact, most of secular Renaissance music CDs should have it, as it was very popular.
Ahhh... Cate Blanchett. I love how you can say things in French AND Dutch [like in Elizabeth: The Golden Age] with such an ease and an awesome accent.
This movie is filled with so many inaccuracies. Mary I was not fat and ugly, but was actually quite thin and plain looking, though certainly not ugly. There is no basis for the Duc D'Alencon being a flamboyant drag queen, or even gay for that matter, as the English often mistake the dandiness of the French with homosexuality. Perhaps the biggest inaccuracy is the murder of Mary of Guise by Walsingham! Mary of Guise (mother of Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth's rival) died of natural causes!
Very true! The problem, however, is that people whom are not students of English history go to these movies with the intention of learning facts, and this is why the whole thing is a travesty.
If people go to the movies to learn their historical facts then shame on them and they get what they deserve when they're corrected by people who read books.
Well stated! Alas, Hollywood seems to have replaced the great historians in the impressionable minds of so many people. Good God, look at The Tudors series! An utter travesty.
@ligreekguy It is only "suggested" that Walsingham killed her in this movie; it is not ACTUALLY stated that he did. The Duke of Anjou blames him, but we do not know if he actually did kill her.
I think this movie is entertaining and asthetically beautiful, but I have to say it drives me crazy when the Tudors are sensationalized beyond recognition because they're sensational enough. Elizabeth was 48 when she became engaged to Anjou, past her youth & marred by scars from smallpox, which she contracted early in her reign. She did not break the engagement for the absurd reason offered in this movie, but because the people were outraged & felt Anjou would involve England in foreign wars.
Elizabeth was such an independent, responsible person, never needing to depend on a man for anything and wion the hearts of many british people. she is my idol :)
"I will have only one mistress here and no master". By this, the Queen was referring to herself as the "mistress" and that she will never allow herself to be ruled by a man (master). At a very young age, she lost her mother Anne Boleyn, and watched her Catholic sister ruled by her Spanish king consort Philip II while he was in England. Without a "master" who in those days would automatically be expected to take over matters of state after marriage, she remains the mistress in her kingdom.
"and watched her Catholic sister ruled by her Spanish king consort Philip II while he was in England"
Mary I and Phillip were married for 4 years (1554-1558). For much of his reign he was absent, especially from 1556 when his father abdicated and he became king of Spain. The little time Phillip spent in England he acted as stipulated in the marriage contract: he didn’t meddle in the government of England or in his wife’s Court affairs, therefore, Elizabeth’s sister was never ruled by Phillip.
I love when Elizabeth pushes Robert away and says, "I am NOT your Elizabeth! I am NO man's Elizabeth! And if you think to rule her, you are MISTAKEN!" She wasn't playing games when she said that!!! B)
hehe, He is just a Duke thank god. But this character is fictional in all but name. The real Duke of Anjou was an ugly man 22 years younger then Elizabeth who was 46 at the time they met in reality. He ended up marrying Catherine Medici.
Vincent cassel is so funny, he usually plays bad ass characters so it's refreshing to see him playing this crazy character. He's one lucky guy being married to sexy MONICA BELLUCCI!
Yeah that asshole nephew is really sick at the stomache, alright. In there with an orgy going on, jaming music and cross dressing. What a acheing stomache. HHHHAAAAA!
no, OMG, see, by mistress, she meant one of the male sex. It's much easier with french, u have a diffrenent word for both genders of every word. By the phrase, no master only mistress, she meant that she want her spouse to obey her like a mistress, not to boss her around like a master
@MegaWeike mistress is the feminine version of the word master. So there is a different word for each gender in this case. And I'm sure she meant that England will only have a mistress (meaning a female ruler) and no master (meaning a male ruler) .
@willdenman sure back then women were considered stupid or feable and they needed a husband to tell them how to live but when elizabeth said she would never marry she stood up and showed that women can rule the world without a husband!

hehe, He is just a Duke thank god.

Elizabeth's a lesbian??? Omg no master only mistress.
harleyW4eva 1 year ago
@harleyW4eva I thought the Mistress she was referring to was England.
shirgen6 1 year ago
@shirgen6 I think she meant England will have only one Mistrees ie her and no master proclaiming to the world that she wouldn't marry

@harleyW4eva
no, OMG, see, by mistress, she meant one of the male sex. It's much easier with french, u have a diffrenent word for both genders of every word. By the phrase, no master only mistress, she meant that she want her spouse to obey her like a mistress, not to boss her around like a master
MegaWeike 1 year ago
@MegaWeike mistress is the feminine version of the word master. So there is a different word for each gender in this case. And I'm sure she meant that England will only have a mistress (meaning a female ruler) and no master (meaning a male ruler) .

@avalon2468 how? i don't understand, can you please explain? thanks
willdenman 1 year ago
@willdenman sure back then women were considered stupid or feable and they needed a husband to tell them how to live but when elizabeth said she would never marry she stood up and showed that women can rule the world without a husband!
avalon2468 1 year ago
I'm guessing the Duke is gay considering there was a man in the bed.... I love how Cate reacted....
