Do isabel do rolllkur? I've just read that she does and I was so surprised! all this critizism from the germans on anky and then their own "star" do it! HA HA what a shame.
Isobel rides a form of rollkur which she claims is more correct than everyone elses, as does Anky and everyone else who uses the exercise. Everyone's version of an exercise is the best in their opinion.
MsMotty- i agree, every rider that uses rollkur thinks they do it correctly. I do say that no harm is done if the horse isnt pulled to far back to its chest. When the poll ends up vertical to the ground, thats when i think its taken way to far
I do find it strange that the Germans moan about riders using rollkur, especially when it was the Germans who statred using it before the likes of Anky.
Msmotty - i agree, I think because the Germans have always lead the way in dressage they got cut when riders from Europe came over and started winning all the big competitions. I wonder if anky and isabell talk, or if they get along?
I remember something in a magazine about 1996 where they claimed they were friends. but of course, once the bell goes you have no friends, only rivals.
When the bell is rung to start the test. Then you have to be completely focused on what you are doing, on getting the best from your horse so that you can get a good score.
Isabell uses rollkur and so do alot of top riders. And yes i agree everyone bitches about anky so much using rollkur. and especially the germans. I find it very funny that one of their own uses rollkur as well!!! it obviously works and gets results. I don't use rollkur but I'm not going to complain about it.
divinelnfection - this is not a kur, it is the grandprix special (individual) competition. The music you hear is just background music. The riders got no choice to what background music was played.
Its like blue horse matine. She is only nine and you can see it. Her transitions arnt very good and i believe she will only get better with age. I think these GP riders are bringing there horses up too fast. The horses are not going to reach there fall potential until there around the age of 14, in my opinion. But they are doing a great job and they look after their horses, so im not putting them down in any way.
It is true that some horses are brought through the levels very quickly. I think it is more to do with the amount of money spent on horses these days. As an owner, if you have just spent the price of a large house on a horse you want it out there competing as high as possible, earning your money back.
He's 13 now. They put him GP at nine, and Isoble says that, with hindsight, it wasn't the best decision as he wasn't ready mentaly for the step up. Hence the time spent on his hindlegs in 2004 and the imminent criticism of Isobel's riding, which had nothing to do with it.
He really has turned out well for Isobel, after he was rushed into this level in 2003, he lost his way a little, but everything came good for her in the end.
Minga90ame, I have seen MsMotty riding first hand and I can tell you that there is no one better at riding a GP test in the world. I have trained with her 7 years ago, and was envious of her GP horse, Stravinsky, who she only competed lightly, to ensure that he was never overworked. She knows what she is talking about.
Because, her national team decided that Stravinsky was not a proper dressage horse, no matter that he had proved himself many times already against brilliant horses at that level. Also she had bad health problems which forced her to stop riding as often as she would have liked.
Now she has recovered some of her health and has a good horse at PSG level, who she is hoping to bring on along with another 2 youngsters. I am hoping to go and train with her again at some point this year so that I can improve on my own riding and get the best out of my horse.
I do not have a gold medal hidden somewhere because in Britain it is often the case that horses without correct dressage breeding and training are over-looked in favour of those that meet the criteria. I would not say that I have ever been the best in the world at riding a GP, so discard PSIRule's comment.
not a proper dressage horse? hmm I don't get it really..once I trained for jan brink, that was really nice since he has some medal to show his potential of riding. Don't you dare say something bad about jan since britains dressage riders insn't the best either.
Not a proper dressage horse in that he was not by a dressage stallion, out of a dressage mare. It is not my policy to follow set guidelines when training a horse, rather I do what I think suits the horse at that time, which the selectors don't like. We have some good riders in Britain, but the training facilities available are rubbish, and owners are reluctant to spend good money on horses.
I can make an average horse look good, if it has the right rider on it's back, but I cannot perform miracles, no one can. I rate Jan Brink as a rider, he is very good at getting the most out of his horses. I rate most riders who have done training with Kyra Kirkland, and actually take in what they are taught. Those that ignore their training I have no time for, no matter what they achieve in their career.
Please do not throw it in my face that I do not have a medal to show for all my hard work. A medal does not make a good rider. You can be the worst rider in the world, but if the team you ride for wins a medal that is forgotten.
no it isn't, but how do I know that you even can ride? Im leaving this discussion now, not I single more comment Im not getting anything out of it. Bye
Why should Anky have won the Grand Prix special? Because Salinero looks more powerful, or seems to bounce higher from the ground? No, Anky shouldn't have won this class.
I think anky should have won because salinero is better in the piaff (satchmo head isn't still at all) during the first to piaffs and passage his head is a lot behind were it should be! Anky's ridning is more comfortable to watch also.
I will let you in on a little secret. What Satchmo is showing is true cadence. There is nothing artificial or showy about his way of going, the same with all of Isobel's horses. What you see with Salinero is artificial cadence. He has been trained to be more showy, this shows in tha fact that his head doesn't move - he is tense as a result of his training.
well thats what I thougt, you are one of those how think isabell should won cuz anky is using rollkur, suprise for you the judgers have to judge what the see in the ring. But isabell has to win something since anky is the queen of the kür. Don't tell me how anky is training her horses! like you know everything about it, sure isabell rides very good, but don't you dare tell me anky is worse, I've seen her on so many clinics that I know what she is perfornmng in the ring is pure magic!
I am not against Anky for her use of roll kur, even though it is an extreme form that she uses. If that were the case, there would not be many dressage riders that I like. What I do not like to see is training exercises that are used to encourage a horse to make over-exagerent movements, this is not what dressage is about. Horses are more often marked on how showy a movement is, not how technically correct it is, which they are supposed to be marked on.
Furthermore, I use roll kur myself, but a less extreme form that I was taught during my showjumping training. Most people in dressage would not recognise the form of this exercise that I use because the neck is only just slightly over-bent, to encourage relaxation. It is the same form that is used by many showjumpers. Check out Franke Sloothaake in the ring and how he rides his horses to a fence, and you will see what I mean. There is no tension in his horse at any time.
But still, I can not understand what's wrong with ankys preformance? I mean you have to admit tha satchmo is behind the lod in the first piafss and pasage? but you know isabell needs some supporters too, and anky needs hers :) so lets just drop this and cheer for our champions?
I do not support any one rider, rather I champion horses that are trained to be correct in their movements rather than showy. If a horse is both correct in the movement it has just performed - irregardless of where it's head is, as we can not control everything about the horse, and happens to be showy at the same time then all the better for dressage as a whole. I can not stand the sight of badly trained, showy horses dominating this beautiful sport as it achieves nothing in the long term.
Salinero doesnot show any lengthening or shortening of his frame throughout the test. His hind legs do not come fully under him in his collected work, and his half-passes sometimes give the impression that he is only bending through the neck rather than with his whole body. I have a video of an absolutely amazing horse, seemingly forgotten today, who if he had lived, would have made the likes of Salinero look like complete novices.
I cant belive that you're saying that salinero whos scores almost 87% at dressage does anythinf wrong! I don't think I can disguss anything with you anymore after that comment! But i'm looking forrward to see you ride, you must be really good (?) if you don't think salineros collected work is good (he gets score 8-9)I would like to see yours, and if salineros collecting is bad, we can not even talk about
It the Grand Prix Special, so the riders don't actually choose the music. It's just there to try and ease the fact that each horse is performing the same test and adds to audience enjoyment.
Isabell Werth isn't all that long in the leg, and so to compensate, she brings her legs further back than some other riders in exercises like passage and flying changes. If she didn't do this, there is a chance that the horse would be unsure exactly what it was being asked to do.

I have a video of an absolutely amazing horse, seemingly forgotten today, who if he had lived, would have made the likes of Salinero look like complete novices.

satchmos. You seme like a very sad person, maybe you should try to enjoy theses amazing horses in stead of judge them,

I cant belive that you're saying that salinero whos scores almost 87% at dressage does anythinf wrong! I don't think I can disguss anything with you anymore after that comment! But i'm looking forrward to see you ride, you must be really good (?) if you don't think salineros collected work is good (he gets score 8-9)I would like to see yours, and if salineros collecting is bad, we can not even talk about

oh my god the announcers need to shut up. i like hearing the music.

Wonderfull! anyone who knows wich music it is ?

It the Grand Prix Special, so the riders don't actually choose the music. It's just there to try and ease the fact that each horse is performing the same test and adds to audience enjoyment.

Isabell Werth isn't all that long in the leg, and so to compensate, she brings her legs further back than some other riders in exercises like passage and flying changes. If she didn't do this, there is a chance that the horse would be unsure exactly what it was being asked to do.

Not that I could do it better, but doesn't she keep her legs kind of long back in the passage?
