Windfall profits taxes were a stupid policy idea in the 1980's and they're stupid today. All they do is reduce investment, not prices -- and it's the very industry we need investment from now. They raise no money either.

The only way to bring prices down over the long term is to get more entrepreneurs chase the huge profits. Eliminating those profits through the political process will eliminate that incentive.

Obama has some good ideas but this isn't one of them.
