"an extraordinary rendition program is necessary for the extraordinary circumstances we live in today."
Ahh, just like Hitler needed the KZ camps due to the extraordinary circumstance of having Jews living in his country. He saw them as a threat to Germany.
Does the term "slippery slope" mean anything to you?
jayrants, with all due respect, your comment is totally off topic. I certainly hope that you are not trying to discredit the incredibly important work that the ACLU is doing by bringing up a state affiliate employee's criminal record--deplorable as that record may be. Apples to oranges.
Representatives Robert Wexler (D-FL), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), all Members of the House Judiciary Committee, Wexler has launched an ambitious online effort to mobilize support for immediate impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney! Act now! Spread the word for support, as big media won't! Sign the petition, and pass on information! Best way to kill a snake is to cut off its head!
We don't ask questions, or should we start getting really nosey and start invading the privacy of such companies? I think not! We'd loose all of our business!
I currently work for Jeppesen Dataplan. All we do is flight services/scheduling. We don't ask questions. If the ACLU is going after our company, why not the fuelers? ATC? How about our phone company that helps us contact ground handlers throughout the world? I just don't see why Jeppesen is being sued for something that we're not even aware off! Government flight, private flight, non-commercial flights?
According to published reports, Jeppesen had actual knowledge of the consequences of its activities. A former Jeppesen employee informed The New Yorker magazine that, at an internal corporate meeting, a senior Jeppesen official stated, "We do all of the extraordinary rendition flights - you know, the torture flights. Let's face it, some of these flights end up that way." (Jane Mayer, The New Yorker, Oct. 30, 2006.) ACLU
CIA renditioning Gulfstream II jet aircraft # N987SA crashed on Sept. 24, 2007 after it ran out of fuel over Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, with a cargo of 4 tons of Cocaine on board. Plane made many round-robin.Same operations using rendition planes prisoners / heroin to-from Afghanistan.

Well corporate entities exist with the purpose of makin bucks. But the CIA surely has a thankless job. They work their asses off trying to nail terrorists and all that they get in return is negative publicity.
I agree with victor256...if anyone hasn't seen "The Corporation," you should. It talks about how corporations, as legal entities, are inherently built to make profit at any cost. And the people always, always, pay the price.
The USA government is corrupt. The ACLU is pointless as the government tortures us, doing forced injections and torture. I was a bank examiner for the federal agency the FDIC, I was almost killed and tortured for years, to this day. A regional director was murdered and labeled suicide. Mobile Audit Club links and saintrambone videos for proof
I am glad some people are concerned about habeus corpus in the US. This is serious stuff. If not stopped we will drift into Fascism. The only thing these corporations understand is the bottom line. Go after them ACLU.
This is silly. Jeppesen provides mapping services for pilots. Maps and charts like roadmaps you would use to drive your car but for flying aircraft. If someone used a roadmap made by Rand McNally to find your house to commit a felony would you sue Rand McNally?
They make maps, people. ALCU is not telling you the entire story and is playing on your emotions. ALCU should be ashamed, or they are clueless.
czedzed: Liar. According to the Council of Europe, Jeppesen (a Boeing subsisiary) intentionally submitted "dummy flights" to various aviation authorities in order to conceal the true flight paths of the rendition planes.
If Rand McNally knowingly abetted the violation of domestic and international law, you bet I'd sue them.
vrede420: Two things can be true at the same time. Pilots and flight departments, not Jeppesen, file multiple flight plans for multiple destinations and then use the flight plan for the selected destination when the ultimate destination is unknown but there are several options. Not sure what in my post made you want to call me a liar but if it makes your world a better place...
Jeppesen provided auxiliary services with knowledge of acts these services supported. I, for one, have a problem with people profiting (with my tax dollars) from such deplorable acts aimed at marginalizing due process of law conventions. Legally, I think the ACLU will need to show that Jeppesen knew what the CIA was doing to be compromised.
I wonder why the ACLU is not suing the American GovernmenT? Oh, I guess they tried, but were not successful. This is really grabbing at straws. Can't you people see that the ACLU is pulling at your heart strings? I would imagine that being humiliated is not quite as bad as having your head cut off. What is the ACLU doing about that?
Thank you ACLU! The torture programs run to the heart of what our democracy should NOT be about! US corporations should not be allowed to profit from the savage brutalization of innocent people. All of the participants need to be held accountable and these Nazi-like practices stopped.
The CIA has got to go or to be seriously diminished in its covert capabilities.

In the name of national security,a security apparatus could be given blanket power to do anything without accountability to society.
The danger is that what if perverts have infiltrated such an agency and start to perpetuate a program to abuse people for the sake of it.
It could happened to anyone.
In the last days of the old Roman Empire, the Praetorian Guards in Rome did just that and held the Emperor and families captive.
What happens if CIA is infiltrated? It is too horrible to...
