The ANL version is the 1st one I heard and back in 2001 I had no idea it was a cover and I still like it a lot but I can appreciate now the more melodic versions and I think Sinead did a beautiful version but ANL brings raw lyrics, almost like "fuck you, you don't have it better than this person" but the og and Sinead's version is almost sympathetic

Please. This is eloquent beyond belief. McTell obviously wrote it and did wonderfully singing it, but, as has often happened, Sinead O'Connor wraps her pipes around a song and, especially when she exerts actuall effort, she does what a singer ought to do -- she owns the feckin' thing.

Another example is 'Don't cry for me Argentina' for me Julie Covingtons version is superior and no-one can compete with Doris Day singing 'Secret Love'.
