  • Again, great upload. Bought this with Paavo Järvi, highly recommended too.

Concerning Debussy and Sibelius - who knows? I just think that Debussy was much influenced by Wagner (at least in parts), and Sibelius more or less hated that. Parts of his 4th symphony were written to state how ugly the music of his time was for him...so it is a nice dream, but we can't say for certain what would have happened. Debussy could be extremely arrogant... Thanks for this piece!

  • Thank you for this. I never really understood this one although Sibelis definetely is my favourite...But with these pictures I believe I may understand something that might have gone through the big man's mind...nevertheless the piece is very beutiful.

  • This reminds me a lot of the Finale to the Second Symphony.

  • The score calls for 4 horns, but asks for them to be doubed to 8 for for the sun -rise section.

IMHO this is a masterwork of expressive writing. I have this recording and it is among my real favorites of ANY music.

    Thanks

  • Great upload and picture sequence!

  • Outstanding! Not my favorite of Sibelius' tone poems, but an excellent performance nonetheless. I'm sure we'll be hearing lots more from Inkinen. With your posting, all of Sibelius' major tone poems are now on YouTube--quite an accomplishment!
