the main colors are acrylic or lacquer, which don't dissolve from enamel thinner

The base paint is probably an acrylic clear coat, the panel line paint is probably oil based. The acrylic won't be affected by enamel thinner.

I love that his favorite model is the 0083 GP02A, possibly the worst model Bandai has ever produced. His doesn't look half bad, but the proportions are still way off.

I totally agree with you. I would at least wear a mask. those gundam colors and mr.surfacer smell really bad. I'll never get use to this irritant odor.
