@Speer86 Oh, no, this song is definitely not white! Vasiliy Agapkin joined RED Army, all his life was in Red/Soviet Army, and it was him who was the conductor of the brass orchestra on Red Square, when our men went straight from the parade to front lines to defend Moscow.
@Speer86 Its both, and seeing as the whites only used it till they were rightfully slaughtered like the worthless scum they are by the glorious red army, I believe the Soviets have the right to it.
@Rezervist Russia was at its greatest power and glory during the days of the USSR, The State of the Federation we have today would make all former Soviet leaders weep. During the years 1917-1991 they were no Russians, Belorussians, Ukrainians or Baltic people, There was only the glorious Soviet People.
Long live the Tsar, glorious autocrat of all the Russias, Finland, Poland, Besarabia, Lithuania, Livonia, Estonia, undisputed suzerain of the whole Asia and Europe, Invincible Protector of all Slavs, Orthodox Faith and its Holy Places!
This march was played first time by russians volunteers during the balkanians war between bulgarians and turkish in 1912. It 's the symbol of slavian fraternity. After the revolution it was prohibited but the russians played again during the WW II
Only Russians know whats means "Prochanie Slavanki"Your hart ,your soul, your pride. We live to the army service and arriving back to home -hear Slavanka.

@zackpanzer Communism will never get past the point where the government has all the power, so you never experience true communism, at least not in this lifetime.
Communism is a fantasy concept. There is no money or private ownership of anything. To get to a communist state, you have to first make a society socialist (i.e. a police state where the gov't controls the entire economy). The theory was such a society would then revert to the glorious communist utopia, where everything is communally owned.

Wasn't this song written during the Balkan Wars about Bulgarian women saying goodbye to the troops. It was adopted by the White Russian Forces and then by the Red Army.
To everyone who is disputing about the origin of this melody, I studied Russian history and still do and can 100% say that it was written for the Empirial Army of Russia during the Russo-Japan war. Even the discription tells u all that it was writen in 1912. Hello!!! The red army and the revolution happened in 1917! Think before u say. and if u trully belive that the white army stole it from the reds, u have no understanding of tht time period at all. The author wrote it before the revolution!
yet i must say i preferred the old russia before 1917, since it resembled more of the western ideas and influence. because for history as well it wouldn't have created the cold war and led to almost nuclear catastrophe.
Who in their right mind doesnt. Russia was an EMPIRE before 1917!!! I myself am a monarchist and will always remain loyal to now destroyed Russian Czar Dynasty of Romanovs! Long Live the Czras and their Memory
No, my friend, he joined voluntarily, and NKVD did not exist then for your information. As for Agapkin, he was always a conductor of military brass bands of Red Army, and it was he who conducted the music on that great parade of 7 November 1941 when soldiers marched straight from Red Square to the front line to defend Moscow.
Your comments lead me to question how well you did in your study of Russian history. Firstly, I believe that you misspelled "Imperial". Second, this song was written in 1912, you are correct. However, it was not composed during the Russo-Japan War, which took place from 1904-1905. This is what leads me to question your statement that you studied Russian history. This song was composed during and for the First Balkan War (1912-1913).
Yh look wat happened to Russia once that happened. The only reason Russia got back on its feet was due to the WW2 results which sprouted the economy. Before it was just complete destruction, especially in th 1920s. With tsars we never had so much death, massacring, church burning, and so called "evening out the people" by witch i mean taking away from all the people so that everyone became bandits, murderers, and suffering people. Power to the people will never last longer than 400 years becaus
it never has. USA so far has been the longest through out all human history to preserve so called "freedom". Look back to other nations. All eventually turned back to monarchy or dictatorship because it is a human being's nature to have one true leader over him, just like God.
This march was written before the October Revolution; it was used by the Tzar's army and then the White Army took it as one of it's principal marches. Afterwards the Red Army used it as well, because Russians have always been proud of their roots, history and arts.
It's a beautiful march about the farewell of a woman to her husband going to war, and I don't think politics should stain it.
Actually it's both a Tsarist and Soviet song. There are several different versions of lyrics, one is from the Balkan Wars and makes specific reference to Orthodoxy while the other is from post-Great Patriotic War and makes reference to entering Berlin in 1945.
It seems like there is some debate about whether or not this is tsarist music. Apparantly people are miffed becaue it brings back memory of the balkan wars while others claim that the music has been used in Russia by both the White and the Red armies.
I dont see the point of the argument. Couldnt they both agree that this is good music?

Farewell to Slav woman was written in 1912 and first presented in Tambov. The march is dedicated to Bulgarian women sending their men to the Balcan War in 1912 against turks. Agapkin, whose relatives fight against turks during the Russian-Turkish war for liberation of Bulgaria was impressed now bulgarian women send their husbands to battle not with tears, but with flowers. great russian composer and of course, great russian soul. That is the secret of the best well-known march in the World
To set the record straight - the march was written in 1912 with quite innocuous words (whoever commands Russian can find them on the net), then went through some revival d'ring I WWar, then was used by White Army and then was appropriated by the Soviets from 1940 on. ince then t became iconic and nostalgic for all Russians.I myself was marching for it in late 1960s. Drink some vodka while listening!
This is not a "soviet song".It is a Russian military march, composed before revolution.
The pictures are very "soviet", and placed by a group of Kremlin psychological warfare specialists from GRU or contemporary "PropagandaAbteilung" of Russian, read "Soviet", army.
"Why is it the only country that can produce any good music is the one that falls? I am sick of that Rap shit!"
Unfortunately, there's plenty of Russian "yo yo yo, fuck da ho" shit too. It's everywhere; I've even seen Ru. rap videos, with white boys in hip hop clothes and bling, talking smack about American culture! How's that for irony!

Please... Rivals Beethoven? Are you kidding? Much as Russian music is to be admired (some of it anyway), it's not even close... I grew up in Moscow, on the steady diet of the Thaikovsky's 1st Piano concerto & 4th Symphony along with Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Cto. They were played night and day on the radio, almost as inevitable "as death and taxes". And much as I like the aforementioned pieces, I would take Beethoven's 6th Symphony above Tchaikovsky's 4th (or 6th) any day.
Can't you disagree with people without name calling? Do you have a monopoly on expressing your opinion? You expressed your opinion; I happened to read it an disagree with it. In fact, I found it some what extreme and a bit silly. I expressed mine; wonder of wonders! - we disagree. You can respond to the substance of my comments; we can have a discussion. Or not respond but why the need to insult someone? Is this how you normally talk to people?
I find ad hominem attacks unnecessary. One can very effectively destroy an opponent in a debate by skillful use of language without resorting to insults; that is a tactic to which people resort when they lack anything of substance to say.
The march in question is really very good. My father used to play it on a piano (as well as Unter dem Doppeladler - an Austrian march, look it up, it's really grand); I never saw sheet music but he was good at arranging accompaniment.
Well, enjoy! There is more to music than military marches and rap so you've got a whole world-wide web to search for good music. Just don't let it suck you in so that you forget that there's life outside the web.
This is very famous march and it is using not only in Russia but in Bulgaria too!Proshtanieto na slavqnkata on bulgarian! And i think it is using before ww1 in Balkan wars!

stkonung 3 years ago 4

Farewell to Slav woman was written in 1912 and first presented in Tambov. The march is dedicated to Bulgarian women sending their men to the Balcan War in 1912 against turks. Agapkin, whose relatives fight against turks during the Russian-Turkish war for liberation of Bulgaria was impressed now bulgarian women send their husbands to battle not with tears, but with flowers. great russian composer and of course, great russian soul. That is the secret of the best well-known march in the World

BelochkaTilli 3 years ago 3

Why is it the only country that can produce any good music is the one that falls? I am sick of that Rap shit!

Volkmoidruk 3 years ago
Rap's everywhere these days.

@Volkmoidruk:
you're right about that!
Russia is the only country that produces music that rivals (if not, surpasses) that of Beethoven

Cheers!

On second thought, if you have a problem with my opinion, then DON'T RESPOND, Monsieur Buttwipe
CommentGuardian 3 years ago
Can't you disagree with people without name calling? Do you have a monopoly on expressing your opinion? You expressed your opinion; I happened to read it an disagree with it. In fact, I found it some what extreme and a bit silly. I expressed mine; wonder of wonders! - we disagree. You can respond to the substance of my comments; we can have a discussion. Or not respond but why the need to insult someone? Is this how you normally talk to people?
yMew88 3 years ago
Please forgive me!
I didn't read the entire comment correctly.
I didn't meant for that to happen
CommentGuardian 3 years ago
OK.
Cheers!

Whew!
Thank you for forgiving me AND suggesting a new song for me!

BTW, I checked out that song you suggested and it was interesting.
CommentGuardian 3 years ago
Well, enjoy! There is more to music than military marches and rap so you've got a whole world-wide web to search for good music. Just don't let it suck you in so that you forget that there's life outside the web.

Man the soviet union fell apart but even after such a catastrophe this is still one great song and Russians are still heroes! ;-)
Russia will be better in the long run - soviet union was really a disaster for Russia- loss of one of the great religions, Orthodoxy, purges, deportations etc, not good.
