Government healthcare isn't what the congress or the senate has. It's a choice of plans that are ran by private companies.. government is just a company that pays good money for its employees.

The problem with government healthcare including that which congress receives is this.. congressman/tax payers pay into the system just like private insurance but when the government tells you it has the money to subsidize itself they are technically lying as in fact they are really just putting the financial burden on tax payers who pick up the tab.

@Chslosers The idea of government run health care isn't that it's free, it's that everyone pays into the system, or, at least everyone on the government plan (I don't believe in single-payer, I believe in the "public option"). The idea is also to run the plan as a non-profit, and to have it be better than most privately run plans (cover more at less cost and not drop you), which will force private companies to change policy to compete. Currently, HI isn't about HC, it's about profit.

@Chslosers Bad example. The Postal service is commisioned by the US Congress, but it is a private sector firm, more or less. It is not headed by a cabinet member, and the only government involvement is rules that they are allowed to set, much like the private sector regulations congress passed in this new HC bill. And frankly, if G-R programs are losing money, it's because taxes aren't high enough, that's the only possible reason a government program can lose money.

Those banks were the depository of some of the richest people in this country including: Athletes, actors, housing investors, Congressmen and average middle class folks. If they weren't bailed out the following "Bank runs" would've created even more severe regional or national recessions/depressions as they have in banking history.

People with lots of cash have incredible insurance when it comes to banks. See, rich bastards can't spend all that money too fast, so the dollars they put in will, 95% of the time, be transferred from here to there and yada with the bank receiving interest. Now if a bank failed, the money wouldn't just vanish! It would already be gone! I highly doubt the free enterprise system would fault. We'd see people fill that void almost immediately. Hopefully with quality and sincere concern.

@DAKMAIN-and if they fail, the smaller banks suffer the most due to the Fed deflating the money supply which trickles down into the economy creating recessions; a process defined as the "Business Cycle", which is what we are experiencing now. The only other savior of a failing big bank is a well off smaller bank/investor willing to absorb the debts which is rare during unemployment/foreclosure hikes due to lack of credit consumption. History doesn't lie, people would lose millions.

We only stand to lose millions because that money saved is devalued, and can no longer be saved. At some point the fed decides it's time to ramp up gold to make the dollar weaker and make us spend! When inflation goes up and you pay triple for a loaf of bread, then as inflation goes down our dollar is back. How is it that the dollar we see is worth less when there is more? This is why they got rid of the gold standard and pushed us into a wall street clusterfuck.

To student303 -- Try tort reform - until we put a cap on the outrageous settlements that are awarded to plaintiffs, health care costs will continue to climb. There is no downside to someone deciding, for whatever reason, to sue a medical entity. There is no upfront cost to plaintiff and if he loses, he's just out the time spent. If a failed lawsuit results in a plaintiff having to pay court costs for both sides, we'd see a lot less litigation. The public option is a losing proposition.

From my understanding, there is going to be a pool with different companies competing therefore it's going to make them offer better coverage than the public option. Public option is the only way atm to stop insurance hikes.

Public option is a good step (if it's available to enough people), but health insurance is relatively easy to deal with. The 800-pound-gorilla is that 30% of all health care expenditures are wasted on unnecessary procedures. 30% of all costs is $800 billion. But, of course, improving efficiency in health care delivery will takes years, but that my friend is the real threat.
