To say the Les Paul twangs " just as well" though....is just plain not so. Can it twang? Yes....but you admit yourself- it requires more from the player. Telecasters are widely known for having tons of "snap"....and it's easy to get. I play an American Deluxe Tele now, and it's no lightweight, either.
He is skinny because he was recovering from a mountain climbing accident in Montana where he fell 500 feet and landed on his face. He spent months with no teeth. It knocked his right eye completely out hence the dark glasses. He plays guitar so well because as he got able he spent months (with his head in bandages as they reconstructed it) teaching himself to play lead because he was hurt so bad he was almost sure his singing career was over. Like him or not he is a great talent.
Goddamn, Hank could sing back then........and anyone who's worthy of criticizing knows that was a damn fine job of playing as well. That thin sounding, non distorted Telecaster tone is a whole different world from an overdriven, humbucker'd Gibson.

@TheMrleadguitar- To say he sucks is a bit harsh...hes not Chet Atkins or Jimmy Reed or Eric Clapton or Dickey Betts (but who is)? He may not be a master of one instrument but he can play banjo, piano, fiddle as well as some others. How many people can claim to be that proficient at that many different instruments?
