Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and many others spoke French...Romney sounds like a high school student with a very heavy American accent...it's ridiculous that he's being criticised for speaking "fluent" French when he clearly doesn't and even if he did, that would be a good thing.
That was lame. As a French major at uni, I was excited thinking they were having a full-flung convo in French, but no. And French is not that easy to learn. It has taken me years to master the accent and to remember the different verbs tenses and conjugations, and I still wouldn't say I'm fluent!
@zbake11 - think Romney did a good job with his accent and friench... Je ne savais pas que Romney etait francophone.. - il parle bien le francais a mon avis.
@togair9 il etait un missionaire pour l'eglise Mormon en France. He still speaks with a very heavy English. And Quebecois and Parisians speak very different from each other, perhaps even more than a Londoner and an Iowan.
