  • You're the best - I've spent days looking for a relatively foolproof pattern for starting a shirt and this is the only one that I don't think I'll be able to screw up! Thanks man!

  • Great vid, it helps a lot! however, when you start, don't you want to add more rings to the front (Chest part) of the shirt so that is can pull downward until it stops at your neck? thanks!

  • kurnous34, thx for your vidz. i dont wanna go through the hassle of dowel rods, wire, etc. so i am buying rings. 1. are those rings incredibly tough to open/close, 2. will about 100 dollars of 16g galvanized steel make a suit, and 3. can i make a good profit doing this? (not considering time consumption) plz let me know

  • @SlapHappyEdits 1. Not at all. 2a. Dont use galvanized ppl won't buy it 2b. Most likely. 3. probably not on your own if your buying the rings, but who knows never know till you try. good luck

  • @kurnous34 thanks for the advice, I think i'll hold off from chainmail till i have a little more money lol

  • Mate do you think it is feasible to make a suit in a day?

  • @Wuzuphappy probably if you work ALLLL day

  • That is the worst drawing of a man ever.... :P

However, I did learn a lot and thank you very much. Let's hope I succeed in making my chainmail suit.

  • @therealkonvict67 lol your welcome

  • How do u make the hood or watever its called

  • @KingMorzan1 watch the chainmail cube vid i have, there is a link at the end explaining it

  • excellent video

  • i have my pattern the wrong way, not side to side. Will I still be able to make the suit? And the rings are pretty small 1/4 in so its hardly noticeable.

  • i have my pattern the wrong way, not 'side to side'. Will I still be able to make the suit? And the rings are pretty small 1/4 in so its hardly noticeable.

  • With the arms out to the side in your drawing, I'm assuming the chain hangs off of the arms like it would the body (as you discussed at the start of the video). How would you keep it from stretching apart when you lower your arms?

  • What is the size and gauge of those rings? I'm planning on making a armor grade shirt.

  • did you use the 4 in 1 pattern for this tutorial on the shirt?

  • how heavy would it be?

  • hey kurnous34 you should make a video of makeing the chainmail suit instead of drawing it. (Not to sound like a jerk or anything but it would be cool to see wat it would actualy look like.)

  • im tryng to sew some on my shirt to make a longsleave were do i buy the chain whithout being armor

  • I'm guessing this would be A LOT cheaper than buy a full suit

  • How exactly did you figure out the proper dimensions for each square before you put them together? For example, for the chest with did you measure shoulder to shoulder or armpit to armpit or something in between?

  • ok, sorry i just found this video and didnt knoww that you had this video thanks though.

  • for the parts on the showlder since you said that the riings go the way that they shud for the showlder the first part of it is shortn?

  • Ummm, I hav a kwestion. my engrish am no good. butt, howz many linxs wood it take to mayke a chains mails undelweal? I weals Depends too, sew wood the linxs get kaut on the linel? ul videeoh waz plettie good

  • how many more rows do you need on the back ??

  • i started making some but i think ive done it wrong cos i have some gaps throughout it, ive made about 1ft by 6 inches of it so far, i done it 6 in 1 with 1 ring then 3 then 1 then 3 etc, thanks for this video anyway

  • can u make a vest

  • certainly

  • @kurnous34 can u make the whole chainmail suit on video (not to sound like a jerk)

so yeah it would be could to see it finished

  • this was very helpfull, thanks for poasting

  • hi i just bought a 1/4 mile of 16g galvanized wire and i plan to make a t-shirt with 3/8 id rings, 4 in 1 euro.will that work or do i need more wire..plz reply

  • looks like euro 4+1

  • What type of pattern did u use in the vid and can u use the armour for renacting?PLZ REPLY

  • by the way what size are the rings you use ID and guage

  • Just guessing, but I'd say 16guage at 3/8 ID

  • have you ever tried your hands at the dragonscale pattern. bit complicated but tight!!!

  • i made a belt lol

  • are you working on a suit right Know , i am half way done.

  • make a viking outfit like a how to shield video

  • now all u need is to make a coif and pants and possibly gloves

  • I dont think they ever made full maille 'pants' per se. A maille hauberk would have come down to about knee length, so you basically just needed 'leggings' to cover from mid thigh down to your feet. For how much those suits weighed, they could scarcely afford to add extra weight in redundant layers of maille underneath existing ones.

  • it would've been just a tunic underneath, maybe some leather

  • Depends on the time period, according to what little research I've done. If you go back far enough I'm sure it was just a tunic and some leather, but by the 12th century chainmaille leggings (chauses) were in use to protect the legs, and padded jackets (aketon) were worn under the hauberk.

  • the interesting and groovy thing is that this is a very very basic intro to pattern making.- from this you can learn

  • Can I say...make long shirted chainmail? i.e, chainmail that goes down to my wrists using this method?

  • yes

  • how would i make a chainmail bag ?

  • theres a pattern called an expanding psattern, its the same pattern used to make a coif. Start with the expanding pattern, when you have the desired sized move to a normal 4 in 1, then finish with adding a drawstring i guess. there an address at the end of my chainmail cude video i believe that shows the expanding pattern

  • simple E4-1 try HP3-1 sheet6 or Elfweave

  • well that is true but the midevil forges are fun to work on and are much faster and not very expensive like i said i can show you how to make a simple one...

  • sorry i forgot to tell you that is true but if you melt the rings together it increases the chainmails value expenentially

  • sorry i know i keep putting two right in a row but i hear you dont have any more toppics if you want you can contact me and ill tell you how to make a forge i dont have room to but you can show us how to melt the rings together...

  • i would not recomment welding the rings together for a few reasons. 1 its very time comsuming and its just not necessary since the armor is just for show. 2 the precision equipment you wolud need is expensive as heck. and 3 you'll have to grind or sand off all the burs you'll make while welding the rings together.

  • hey its me again i was wondering if you could send me some pictures of a peice of chainmail cloth because ive epeated this process 7 times because i did it wrong and before i get to far i want to see some it would really help also i enjoy talking with you i may be 12 years old but i was wondering if you could open a chat section or something because it gets tiring leaving a thousand comments! thanks!

  • It's history repeating itself!

  • Simple and concise instructions! Thanks very much for sharing :)

  • yup, clean and easy to understand. thanks for posting.

i also started to make chainmail, the 4in 1 pattern. i want to start first by making chain mail gloves. do you got some piece of advise on how to design it?

  • sorry for commenting again so quickly but it would also be helpful if you could show us how to make a simple sword if u can get that ican post a video about how to attach chainmail to a woved sheild!

  • well can you post a video on how to make paded armor (its not like were actually using it but still)chainmail was used to protect agains light BLADED weaponry so it could give protection from a sword or dagger but it you were hit with a club it would still brerak your bones!

  • Hey this is an excelent video along with every other chainmail video you have. But do you think that this is battle worthy armor?

  • um can somebody post a video showing how to harden leather and make sholder armor plz i beg of u lol

  • Im making an 8 in 1 patern and I am having trouble conecting the sleavs to the suit. The thing that is troubeling me is the way your patern goes mine goes the other way. Can you give any tips on conecting the two sleavs.

  • How ere they made in medeaval times?? Do you know the first recorded suit??

  • google it

  • well i think its was in the 1492

  • Thanks for the video. I made a sheet of mail, then was stumped as to how I was going to make a hauberk.

  • how long did it take you to make that piece of chain mail?

  • yeah i've used them for reenactment and for show. to expand a shirt just addd a row of rings werever needed, its very simple

  • Hey im making a chain mail shirt for reenactment and i have to make expansions within the shirt. Do you normaly do this? or is urs for show?

  • This Acually Wrks.....................

  • when you are makeing a suit and u connect the four peices should you connect at the very edges or should you connect a couple of rows in.

  • making a suit requires a lot of experimenting. Just try it on as you build it to see if it fits.

  • how big of a hole should i have for the head?

  • .......one big enough for you head to fit through.

  • hey dude! i hawe watched your videos when you do the chain mail shirt and i am making one for ma self. but i have on problem... how do i conect sliive to the body of my chainmail shirt? plis reply

  • watch part 2

  • Can you please show us you're Chain mail you have made, and Explain a little more about how to weave the sleeve's on. buy showing us with you're Chain shirt.

  • u should go into carpetry

    ur amazing

  • Lucky her.

  • Good. By watching this I know I did it right : P Go Chainmail Shirts. I have made one and am going to start another two, one of aluminum and another of Galvanized steel. Whoever I end up marrying I will give the other steel one to.

  • well you know your goin to need a cylinder 40 rows around, now I picked a even number for esy math but I hope you get the idea you cun just round up its better to be a litte big then small when it comes to armor ^^ so to make it a little harder...say your chest expanded is 38 and 1quarter wide just do 39 rows. hehe oops I forgot to count the middle row but you should get the idea

  • now back to the mesurment...think, if a square of 4-1 is 2inches square then you need to mesue around your wiedest part "normaly your chest "dont forget to suck in air and hold your breath so you have room to breath when its compleet "" say your chest is 40inches round

  • if you wish for a tighter looking ptern then you need to use a smaller diamiter rod to coil your rings giving you smaller diamiter rings and in turn a tighter/ smaller pattern, now this dose have lmits you cant make the rings so small as to not have room to fit 4 together compleeting your pattern

  • hehehe...this is ok for concept its the esyest way for a starting point, if you move on to learning how to make 09degy angels and joining thm to the rest of the piece you can make better arms, and you can mesure how big you need to make your armor it just take a good amout of thinking

  • typeo 90degry angels*

you have to know the size of your liknks, I will try and explain.

  • ok let me start by saying you dont want to have your links squished together you need to stretch it out, if you do make your armor with the chain male with the idea that the patern needs to be close together your goin to find that when you lean forward the chest will expand too far away from your body making the armor too large,

  • Very nice and informative for those new to this hobby. A helpful guide along with the other vids in your series. Nice work.

  • i have a question. how do u determine the size of the shirt? are ther any measurments to the four peices when u are forming the shirt?

  • hehe no there are no measurments when making a suit. the chainmail isn't like fabric in the sense that the chainmail will expand. however im by no means a pro when it comes to this, this is just the method that works best for me. Just make sure you have some breathing room and that the suit isn't constricting.

  • You can always add on a few rows hear and there to give you the finished size as long as they run the right way.

  • bingo

  • awsome
