  • btw you look so cool doing this shit. you need to get yourself a snazzy suit and a cane, lol.

  • this makes me smile uncontrollably.

  • And I thought I was a good whistler. Not anymore :(

  • @yurismir1 Keep practicing! Any worthwhile endeavor takes time, and success usually does not occur overnight.

  • why couldnt i stop watching this

  • @misship2thehop Because you're too hip to 'da hop?

  • Elrond+Smith=WhistlersBrother

  • @TheNorthHawk Greetings, Misterrrr Aaaandersonnnnn. :)

  • this video sucks without sound

  • Reminds me a lot of Bobby Mcferrin. Awesome.

  • whislte the bad the good and the ugly!!

  • press 3,4,3,4,3,4,3,4,3,4

    HEAD BANGIN ALL THE WAY

  • I'm pretty sure that there is no risk in whistling someones song on here. Try "All of Me" by Jon Schmidt

  • @snickersman96 He's an amazing pianist--love that song! But even if there's little risk I still won't do cover tunes without permission. As a songwriter myself I have utmost respect for copyright law and the protection it gives to artists & creators. Anyway, I don't think that song would translate to whistling very well. Too much going on, lots of chords, and I'm a pretty decent whistler but to be honest I don't think any whistler could do that song justice. Thanks for the thought though!

  • wow

  • And i thought my cousin was good...

  • not a single thumb down.

  • @ibmlib LOL I hope you didn't just jinx it. :)

  • @WhistlersBrother >_< Yep he did. I'm a thumbs up though. ^_^ You are amazing by the way, I can't whistle at all.

  • bloody awesome m8

  • @hsomerville09 Thanks so much!! Sorry I missed this comment...

  • can you whistle the song "Twisted Nerve" by Bernard Backman? (pardon any spelling errors) and if so, can you make a video, if you have not already done so, of you whistling it? ;D

  • @CrimsonFlare321 Yes I can whistle that! But, I can't post it on YouTube! If I did it would be copyright infringement. Unless I could get permission from the copyright holder, but that is usually very expensive, I would have to pay thousands of dollars for a license to use the music. There are hundreds of songs I'd like to do videos of, but never will, for this reason. :( Sorry, I really wish that wasn't the case!

  • i am an amazing whistler but i think you are better than me. that was really great. i would have voted for you :)

  • @cheybug394 Wow, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. :) I would love to see some videos of you whistling!

  • Mann, that was actually really calming. I wouldn't mind all listening to an album by you. Keep doing what you love, and we'll keep love what you're doing.

  • @Lurker87 Wow, that's the nicest comment I've gotten in a while! Thanks!

Actually... I am putting an album out on iTunes soon. Putting the finishing touches on it now, and submitting it soon for review, so hopefully it will be up in about a month or so. (Depending on how long it takes them to make it go "live.") Thanks again for the kind words!!

  • @Lurker87

I was thinking the exact same thing...lol I find listening to you very relaxing! You really should do an album..:)

  • @nummysmom It's on the way!! Just finished my album and I hope to have it up on iTunes in a month, or however long it takes them to approve it and go live with it. Thanks for the kind words!

  • Dude! I totally would've voted for you!

  • i never heard you talk, this was the first time,

lol not at ALL i thought you would sound like.

    But damn good whistling ^_^

  • @ProWoWRunner LOL Yes people tell me that all the time, my voice doesn't fit me. Hey if you want to hear me do a couple different voices, check out my "Do Unto Others" video on my channel... Happy Halloween!!

  • autotunes?

  • @brymarc Only if you mean that you'd like to listen to this in your car. I do not autotune anything. But thank you for wondering that; I take it as a compliment. If you check out some of my older videos where the audio is straight off the camera (and therefore very poor quality audio) you can see that this is just my whistling ability, nothing more. See "Crazy Whistling," or "Extreme Whistling," or "Whistling With My Fake Trombone" for examples of what I'm referring to. Thanks!

  • ill post it on my facebook :)

your great... btw i cant learn to whistle and i watched your turtorial

  • @MrSymetic Hey thanks!! That is mighty kind of you! :)

Sorry about the tutorial... I feel bad that it didn't help you any. If you keep trying though, eventually I think you'll be able to do it. It takes experimentation to find out what works for you, to produce the sound.

  • how doesnt this have like a million views this is awesome

  • @Cr0tchsh0t Ha ha, wow, thanks! I don't know why not, that would be great. I guess because it's not quite awesome enough for people to send it to friends or post it on their Facebook or whatever... So that's cool though, my goal is to have a million views on it by the year 2079.

  • thats great that, its a really happy sound and stays in your head

  • @davidkeithbecket Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it! I look forward to hearing more of your amazing beatboxing talent!!

  • I bet you woulda got on AGT if you had a group w/ you

One guy beatboxing, you whistling, and maybe, MAYBE a harmonica player...but it would have been hard to find ppl that could beatbox the way you whistle

I think they wanted ppl they thought could do somethin big

  • @TracksPyro I agree, if I was a group instead of just me, it would probably have helped my chances. I think next year I'm going to go to Los Angeles and try to get on stage for a "normal" audition instead of going through the YouTube contest. I would have done it this last year but I missed it, didn't even know when it was happening until it was too late.

  • @WhistlersBrother Please do some Chrono Trigger songs. Please.

  • @CameronMcDChilliwack That would be really cool... Unfortunately I can only do original tunes or songs that are public domain, I can't risk copyright problems on my channel. I already had to delete several videos where I was whistling music that was copyrighted, which I was unable to get permission for (permission from the copyright holder). So unfortunately I won't be able to do this for ya... Sorry! It's a killer idea though!

  • @WhistlersBrother Ah, oh well. If you don't mind me asking, which videos were deleted?

  • @CameronMcDChilliwack I had a video whistling "I Dream Of Jeannie" theme song, & "Sweet Georgia Brown" a.k.a. the Harlem Globetrotters' theme, and "When You Wish Upon A Star" that I did for a friend, and "The Hannukah Song" by Adam Sandler, and "White Christmas." I also had a couple where I was whistling along to backing tracks from Guitar Player Magazine. I was bummed because the first two I mentioned were among my top viewed vids. But, it had to be done or I couldn't become YT Partner.

  • @DragonSasha Thanks! I like that one better too. Generally, the more recent the video, the better the quality (with a few exceptions...) Very kind of you to ask about voting! But, I didn't make it into the top 40 for the YouTube America's Got Talent contest. They made some really odd choices... :( So, you can't vote for me. But if you liked Groovy Blue, I do plan on doing more songs like that in the future with various keyboard sounds & drums & stuff.

  • best whistler ive heard...try beatboxing at the same time..that would be dope

  • @HIGHandFLYandRYE I have tried, but it's pretty difficult to whistle anything meaningful while beatboxing... It's not like singing notes where you can do both at once. I'll just have to settle for beatboxing & recording it separately, and whistling along... At least for now, until I develop superhuman powers or a second set of lips. LOL

  • Holy *rap! You're great! Glad I found you (through PetrucciFever). I'm now subscriber.

    Good job!

  • @svtrunner Hey thanks!! Glad you dig the whistling!

  • thank god i found this youtube channel!!! my new favorite

  • @HeadDaniel Thanks!! That made my day!

  • I call you "The Human Flute" for being great on whistling which sounded like a flute.

  • Nice, no lugging around heavy cases of instruments, just some lip balm should do. We picked you in our own top 40 talented vids. Click on our favorites.

  • @luvyatubers Wow, thanks a lot!! I will check out all the real talent on your page... (I trust there are no dogs tugging on accordions...?)

  • I very much enjoy your whistling! Good luck

  • @LeahR828 Thanks!

  • how r u so cool?? lol again i love how u want to revolutionize whistling into something more appreciative. ur great!!!!

    -ciara

  • @11princess14 Aw shucks, you're too kind! Thanks!! I love how you want to revolutionize classical music into something popular and rockin' again!

  • Hey Dave, Glad you joined ORAWHISTLE. Whistling Group on Yahoo. Let me know when you want to do a practice jam.

  • @WestCoastWhistler Hey Carole Ann! Thanks! I may just have to figure out some reason to make it out to your neck of the woods some time... That would be fun!

  • @WestCoastWhistler Whoops! Sorry, I think I misspelled your name. Just realized it. Sorry about that!

  • Well all i can say is just... wow! The backing track that you create is an amazing back drop to the impressivness that is your whistling, i honestly wish i had that talent! I can definately see why this video has 0 dislikes

  • @SamK223 Thanks man!! Glad you liked it!

  • Dave, I haven't checked you out in a while...but this stuff is fantastic!! I love the layering and looping of tracks. Very clever and spot on! I really hope they give you a shot in a few days here! (For that matter...I hope they give us BOTH a shot!) Good luck man!

  • @Vikingfifer Thanks man! Less than a week until we find out who makes it into that coveted top 40... I've got my fingers crossed for both of us!

  • wow i thought every one had natural talent .........guess i was wrong

  • @scaryo0smurf I'm not sure what you mean by that.

  • oh yes! i'm subscribing to you!!! =]

  • It takes a lot to Impress me, Simon Cowell is easily impressed compared to me..... Youre whistling is awesome..... and relaxing

your vocals are awesome, you have a beautiful natural timbre

anyone that listens to you should close their eyes and soak in the sound.

  • @Yutubetopteensingers Ah, you just caught me on a good day. LOL

Seriously though -- Whoa... This has got to be one of the nicest compliments I've ever gotten!! Especially after I checked out your channel and saw the AMAZING caliber of the talent you've showcased there... I'm not anywhere close to being in that league. At least not with my vocals! -- The whistling, maybe, on a good day. LOL Thank you again, that made my day, and my whole week!!!!

  • Excellent! Good choice of tune to whistle to also.

  • I already told you how great your whistling is and I wish you luck getting on TV. Did I mention that you should join WhistlersNet? There is also a whistling forum that you can join, called Orawhistle. I belong to both groups. The best whistlers in the World are on both sites. Enjoy.

  • @HandwhistlerBen Thanks Ben! I'll check out Orawhistle some time when I have time. I already belong to WhistlersNet -- actually Rakesh recently made me an admin on that site to give him help with cleaning up the spam that was going on in the blog posts. Thanks again Ben!! I'll let you know if I make it onto TV with my act!

  • @WhistlersBrother Do you know my friends WhistlingTom , Robert Stemmons, and Sean Lomax? I've known Tom since he lived here back in the 1970's. He and I have gotten together a few times since. Steve Herbst's family money got him to where he is today. Everyone else worked hard. ByrdieSue does all the bird calls. Linda Hamilton is an all around whistler. Basically it is interesting to get to know each one. I spoke on the phone to Ronnie Renalde. What a singer and whistler past 80!

  • @HandwhistlerBen I know the first 3 by name, and have watched & listened to their whistling. (The only one I've ever corresponded with is Sean, through his YouTube channel.) The last 3 I'm not familiar with. I'll look them all up! I love to listen to great whistlers! I had a hilarious conversation with Geert Chatrou on WhistlersNet a while back. He's a nice guy & very funny! (I think that conversation is still in the forums there.) I hope to make it to IWC in 2011 so I can meet everyone!!

  • @WhistlersBrother Sean and Geert are wonderful to talk to, and there is a mutual respect between them and me. There is a fellow up here who throat whistles. He was on the Tonight Show and is amazing. Sean was also on the Tonight Show and he did the Cirque du soleil before Robert Stemmons took it over. . Ronnie Renalde is considered to be the Master of all whistlers. He is also a Big Band Professional Singer! Even in his eighties, he packs the house. He lives in Nova Scotia.

  • @HandwhistlerBen Cool!! Thanks for the tips!! I just looked up Ronnie Ronalde. He's really good!

I wish someday I could get a good steady gig like that (Cirque de Soleil)... That's my dream!! I hope someday I'm good enough to do something like that.

  • @WhistlersBrother -Dave: Robert Stemmons told me that doing Cirque de Soleil is very hard work with the number of Shows at each location and all the traveling and that it does not pay great. Robert almost stopped after his first year doing it, but decided, with his wife, to continue onto Canada and Japan. I think that Sean did it only a year, but he was performing with Orchestras after that. It certainly would be a great experience for you. You would become a great the whistling ringmaster.

  • @HandwhistlerBen That would be a cool experience! Although, I would hope the pay would at least be enough to make it worthwhile, if the schedule is that difficult. Ah well, I will probably never know... ? Thanks again for all the information!

  • This is great ...hope you win!

  • @fat22ful Thanks! I won't know until June 28th, when they post the top 40 auditions on the America's Got Talent YouTube channel. Then viewers can vote for their favorite. The viewers' votes will select 1 person to go on the show, and the judges will pick 11 more for a total of 12 YouTubers who will go on the show... I'll be letting all my subscribers know if I make it into that top 40. (Feel free to hit that subscribe button any time...) LOL Thanks for watching & for the kind words!!

  • You make me smile out loud.

  • @TheSimplyDaft And you make me loud out smile. :)

  • Wow, wasnt sure what to expect with this but your really good. Wow lol. =]

  • @Mcflyrckmyscks Thanks!

  • Nice show - thanks! :-)

  • @jcmegabyte Thanks a lot!

  • This is fantastic! I enjoy it and put it in my favorites....!

  • @Grubenpony12 Thanks!! Glad you liked it!

  • awesome, as always ;) you're so much into it, I love the way you feel and exprime your music!! Good luck, you deserve the best!!

  • @KillerDrummer88 Thanks! I just hope I make it onto the show!

  • wow you make me jealous... :(

But Hey! good luck you got to be the best whistler in the world :DDD!

  • @generationG4m3r Ha ha, well I don't know about best in the world, but thanks man!

  • @MegaKittycat13 Thanks Cat!! I hope the judges like it as much as all my YouTube friends seem to... If I make it into the top 40 on the AGT website I will be sure to do an annoying video about it asking everybody to go there and vote for me!! LOL Out of that top 40, apparently the judges pick 11 people to go on the show, and the voters decide the twelfth person who goes on the show. I'm trying not to get my hopes up!! (It's not easy though!) :)

  • Wow, this is wonderful. Haha, you made me curious by responding to my comment at Ben his whistling! I am a great fan of Ben, since we met! :-)

You do this very well. Is the other one you too? :-)

    I think so! Great!!!

You have a new fan, and in the Netherlands we say: Toy toy toy (I write it as you say it!)... for wishing luck for you at the AGT show!

    Roeleke :-)

  • @TimelessSpace Hi Roeleke, nice to meet you! Thanks for the good wishes! I'll let you know if I make it onto the show...

  • You're awesome dude. I can hear lots of jazz/bebop influences. Great phrasing man!

  • @ComfortablyNumbed Thanks man! Yep, I played jazz trumpet for years and my whistling tends to have a lot of jazz and/or blues influence.

  • @AndrewAri Thanks Andrew!! I hope so too!

  • Hey Dave, type in 'Bod characters' it is 1 minute 13 seconds. It was a cartoon here in the UK during the 70s and 80s. The theme tune is groovy and almost a must for you to learn, just perfect for your style.

  • @davedundee Hey Dave, thanks for the tip! I'll check that out... Although I won't likely post it on YouTube--unless I could get permission from the copyright holder. I just did a major cleanup of my channel of cover tunes and I had to delete several videos... But I'll definitely check this out!! Thanks!

  • Dave! ..... Dave!!!!.... this is great! Fantastic! I am so proud to know such a high caliber whistler! Hey, what fun to be able to carry your instrument with you all the time, and we both know there is nothing "cleaner" than a whistle! (I see references later in your comments to using a piece of paper. I call that splitting my whistle. Have you seen that done?)

  • @johnscottromine Thanks!! Scott my friend, you always know what to say to brighten my day!! I have never seen that "splitting your whistle" done; it sounds interesting. I put a piece of paper up to my mouth and was not able to do anything with it; not sure what the heck is supposed to happen. Ah well...

  • Dave- What a super job whistling! Sally Cohn is going to be Handwhistling on AGT some time from June on!

  • @HandwhistlerBen Thanks Ben! That's cool! I've seen Sally in a couple vids on YouTube, she's good at the handwhistling! That's awesome she made it! I missed the normal tryouts so I'm hoping I get on the show through the YouTube competition. (I'll let you know...)

  • @WhistlersBrother Dave- Sally is on Facebook as well as here. She did an audition in Portland back in April, I believe. Then she was invited back to perform in front of at least one celebrity, she signed documents, waited about a week, and they told her that her segment would be shown. She is not allowed to tell us anything about it! At least with my being on the Tonight Show, it was shown that same evening. I wish you luck with getting on AGT from here.

  • just adding to that last comment^^^

its not quite whistling between the paper.. more like resting the paper on your lower lip.. work it around, you'll soon know what i mean..

  • i don't really know any instruments, but a day doesn't go by that i don't whistle something.. i happen to think i'm actually pretty good at it; though not as good as you..

    any tips lol???

*this is not a tip, but something to try if you haven't yet: try whistling between a thin piece of paper.. the resulting effect sound pretty good and hides any imperfections

  • Wow man!! You probably don't know me but i'm from the slot Forums and this is dope man!! Totally surprised me. I hope they pick you!

  • @stephenc44 Hey man, thanks!! LOL I don't get on the slot forum too much, it's really Deb's thing. She loves that forum!

  • @WhistlersBrother I understand. I have seen ya a little bit on there before and saw your account here while i was looking at Deb's videos and thought i would check them out. I was impressed, awesome and unique talent!!

  • Cool.I hope you get on.

  • @SingRKid Thanks!

  • Grat job, Dave ! Good luck !!! And, unlike the "talent" of teh pop divas of today, you won't need 'auto-tune' !!!! Peace:-)

  • @binnyman Thanks man!! LOL I have actually been accused of auto-tune before on YouTube... (It wasn't really a mean comment accusing me, it was just like "Dude is this auto-tuned?" Or something like that.) I just took it as a compliment.

  • Cat in the BAG!!!

  • @jwwetzel Thanks James -- I sure hope I make it on there....

  • Good luck! I am always amazed by the phrasing

  • @SteveHubbardGuitar Thanks Steve!! Glad you like the phrasing, I really try to keep it interesting. Sometimes my mind goes places my whistle can't follow! LOL

  • awesome... hope ya get it....

  • @whysprs Thanks man!

  • Good luck, Dave! I keep all my fingers crossed for you and my toes as well if it helps! Simply love your whistling and enjoy it every time.

    All my best wishes,

    Ninon

  • @ninonthatsme Thanks Ninon!! I am keeping all my fingers and toes crossed too!! LOL I hope you're having a great week my friend!!

  • YEAH! GO DOMENIC'S DAD!!!

  • @DOUBLEheelflipman15 Thanks Vinnie!!

  • @Bugletable Definitely... That would be really cool!!

  • Wow, you are REALLYYY good at that! Nice job!

  • @Dexosour Thanks Dexosaur!!

  • They'd be crazy not to take you, and it's not hard at all to imagine you winning the whole thing!!

  • @ohiocowboypoet Ha ha, thanks! I sure hope you're right!

  • It's my dream to be able to whistle like you bro. And even though I personally think "America's Got Talent" is a trashy show, I really hope you win.

  • @takadi Thanks!! It is a little smarmy at times, I agree. But, I really hope to get on there... who knows, it could be my big break!

  • you have my vote for sure, Dave. How you can pull off those fast notes that sound like hammer on/offs I can't imagine.

  • @silzelresearch Thanks Dr. Silzel! My tongue is the "hammer" for those notes; I put it against the inside of my lower lip and block off a section of the mouth's air space beneath it, to quickly switch to a different note. Or I remove it from there to open up that airspace to switch notes. I do it in rapid succession to get those little triplet trills and/or long warbles. (Mind you I taught myself to warble as a teenager and have been practicing it ever since! LOL)

  • You are SO Amazing, You need to make some albums and music vids :D Can we vote or somtin to help you win? want a intro... Well you know i can make you one Haha

  • @championvideos Thanks! Yes, I really want to do an album some day... And yes, if I make it into the top 40 on YouTube, then near the end of June there will be voting on the America's Got Talent channel on YouTube. I'll let you know...

  • good luck!

btw, I've got a request for you. Could you do a cover of the third solo in GnR's Sweet Child o' Mine? Would be incredibly awesome. Thanks in advance =)

  • @esgoteiro Hey Rick, I love that tune, and believe it or not I actually can whistle that guitar solo... But I am trying to stay away from any new cover tunes because of copyright issues. I deleted a couple of my videos of cover tunes already and I may have to take down several more... I'll definitely keep this one in mind though; if I ever get semi-famous it will be much easier to obtain the licensing rights to use any songs I want.

  • Really nice done dude! Keep it up !

  • @GhOsTRiDeROwN Thanks Niclas!!

  • I give you a good chance with this!

    Good luck!

  • @92SJ Thanks Sjoerd!

  • Good luck! I hope to be watching you on there soon! It would be nice to see someone with real talent on there for a change. Peace and love dude.

  • @rozzers13 Thanks Rory!! I hope so too!

  • Fantastic, Dave! I look forward to seeing you on the show!

  • @TheHarmonicWheel Well, first I have to get past the YouTube grinder... Keep your fingers crossed for me!

  • good luck and great whisteling!!!!!!

  • @superscoutman Thanks man!

  • good luck!!

  • @o0Angara0o Thanks!

  • you're great man !

  • @Nawa910 Thanks! Let's hope the judges think so too!

  • OMG its the new jethro tull without a fife? HOLY SHIT?!

  • @Azel112 Wow, that is a mighty high compliment... Ian Anderson is a legend!! Jethro Tull is definitely one of my favorites, and I would never place myself in that same category of greatness... But thanks!!

  • a lot of people do find whistling annoying, don't they... glad I'm not one of 'em :)

good luck man... been a while since I saw one of your vids but happened to think of one while out doing a little chirping of my own in the garage the other day. good stuff!

  • @swevensent LOL Keep chirping, it's good for the soul. :)

  • Heheh Awesome.

    Good luck! :)

  • @lisalavie1 Thanks Lisa!!

  • hey...you'll do awesome. you're in my thoughts. ((hugs))

    *tori*

  • @torigirl35 Thanks Tori!! Hugs back at ya!!

  • yeah, covers of songs will do very well with an audience

  • @drunkenbozo1994 Yes, if I make it onto the show I plan to do cover tunes.

  • make sure if you do end up making it into competition to do some covers of songs, thats what'll win the audience

  • @caboosejadog Yea, I will do covers if I make it onto the show, but for now I'm trying to avoid covers because the contest rules say you may be disqualified if the show is unable to secure license for cover tunes to be used... So I'd rather wait and see what they tell me I can do, if I make it. Plus I hope to become YT partner some day and I already will need to delete about 1/3 of my videos as it is... So I'm avoiding cover tunes from now on unless I get permission up front.

  • yesssss!do it!

    i love your whistling!

  • @caboosejadog Thanks man!

  • You'll make it for sure, I hope you win. Take it easy man-

    Kobe Alqatami

  • @smoshworld Thanks Kobe!!
