When it comes to icons, we must take care to only view them as an art piece, so that they do not become an idol. By that I mean, if a person says a prayer in the name of Mary while kneeling in front of a statue of her; that person has in his/her heart and the eyes of God turned Mary into an idol/god. The value of an icon should never overshadow the prayer to / praise of God himself. He is willing to listen to and if it is in His will for our life, grant us what we ask in our prayer to Him

Well, icons are like photos of your family. It reminds you of God and Mary. So it kind of helps you to pray to them. They aren't idols. It also has a historical role since in the early times it helped people to sho what Jesus/Mary looked like, passages of the Bible and early photos. It was really helpful to teach the Bible to people who couldn't read, so it was kind of useful in early christianity I suppose. And since we (apparently) hold to ancient traditions then :D

Why not attack the Catholic Church everybody else does it. Especially the media. But look at it this way the Catholic Church has been around for a couple thousand year, was founded by Jesus and has millions of members. The WBC has 80 some members, was founded by Fred Phelps, and has been around for 50 years. And I have no problem with non-Catholics... I just hate the WBC.

Catholic belief was not 'founded' by Jesus Christ, He never nor did the disciples ever denounce Judaism. The word 'Christians' was first used by people in Antioch to describe the followers of Jesus Christ -- until then they were either known as "The Way" or Jews. I have to disagree with that comment on Mary , sorry. It is believed (as far as I can remember) that Mary was preserved from sin to give birth to Jesus, and was a loving mother to him. In orthodoxy, we do not idolize her. However, we do believe that praying to her will make her take pity of us, and so she will try to convince her son to answer our prayers.

"The Church" is in fact the FULL BODY of believers --- that means every person who confesses faith/belief in Jesus the Christ by means of Holy Baptism -- this includes ALL Christian denominations as well as Messianic Jews.

There are many traditions that the early Christians did not do that are being practiced within hundreds of churches today. Two examples: the WBC follow and adhere to Calvinism and newer Bibles that are being printed using "p.c" language.
