Notice how they don't show full adults? They almost never do - because the pigs don't stay small as advertised. They breed still growing pigs and show very young, if not newborn piglets - gives the illusion of "mini pigs".

Some places even have special feed that you have to give them, or they will keep growing. They tell you not to let the pig eat grass because "It has too much protein" and the pig will grow too much.

That's real nice. Keep it small with malnutrition. Awesome. :0(

How have they been bred to be so small? Do they tend to healthy, or to have lots of illnesses etc like some miniature dog breeds? I'd love to have one as a pet - I've always adored pigs!

@sfdickens I've read up on it, and from what I can find, Breeders sell a "Mini pig Image" they breed the momma when its about 4 or 5 months old, so the buyer will think thats what the adult is, but in reality, they get to quite a large size (Almost 100 pounds) But say to keep it small, you have to deprive it of food (Like anything in the world, no food, no growth) So these pigs are more likely to die earlier, or have more genetic issues due to lack of proper care.

@gmix4eva I dont think so because if you care for it properly it will get huge, and people often give up the pig because they wanted one that stayed small forever, and if you arnt feeding it properly to keep it small, it wont be able to have the energy to be strong. I'm not a pig expert, I'm just doing research on buying one, and its what i've found :P Either way, You pay a lot more for a "Tea cup/mini/mocro" pig when its actually very young, or a not well looked after pot belly pig.

pigs will only be raised for bacon, they dont have any other use. these mini pigs are a special breed, they are small so they dont give much meat, im sure you can eat them but its pointless. they are one of the best pets because of their size and they love you.

55 pounds, my butt. Try 150 to 250 pounds. There are zero domestic pig breeds that are less than 150 pounds when fully grown, though some are capable of breeding when they're still much smaller than their adult size. So the guy selling the pigs shows you the 80 pound parents, and says the piglets won't grow to be any larger than the parents. Which seems to be "technically true" enough to keep lawsuits from sticking.
