Civilians have different demands from vehicles then military personel have. If a vehicle can't meet the demands of the buyer, it is doomed to fail. Now if it were driven in a warzone, my thought would change, but Vietnam isn't a warzone, anymore.

UAZ is one of the best off-road cars in the world. Don't expect comfort, it's designed and built for the military, everything is stripped down to the bare minimum, it's very robust and can be easily repaired, even in the field. That gearbox may not be synchronized but it's tough to break.
According to an urban legend, an US Hummer was pulled out from a massive mudhole in Hungary by some enthusiastic hungarian soldiers and ... erm...this. ;)

i own an UAZ 469. and its not a car designed for luxury. its a military jeep. everything on it is reliable and simple. something the russians are good at. english cars break down at every corner. plus that the uaz does what its designed for. get ANYWHERE

However, my point was that you cannot compare a military designed vehicle to civilian production cars. its like comparing apples to oranges. Also, if you haven't noticed he always goes on these rants about communism and blah blah blah. there is no point to his argument in this episode, just the fact that he hates communism and their attempts at making cars.
I worked on these things on occasion. and to give it a little bit of credit, it had one thing going for it. You could rip the car apart from bumper to bumper from hub to hood, with only about 8 different wrenches (no sockets needed) and a screwdriver. A very important attribute because they were always, to some degree, broken. The gearbox was weak.
UAZ is a military 4x4, its not supposed to be used in everyday life on normal roads.
Its like complaining that Jeep Willis has no doors or stereo. Sadly Top Gear or all other spin-off shows (like Jeremy C. Motorwold etc.) are not about professional info about cars. They are just entertainment. Sadly people are believing in the distorted reality shown there....

@LechuCzechu russians have always made utter shit vehicles, if you compare this UAZ to the military jeep of the 60s you will find that the jeep is just as cheap, but is actually comfortable for the soldiers in side(because the US military expects their soldiers to live for more than 3 minutes MAXIMUM on the battlefield unlike the russians)it is also faster, more durable and reliable, has MUCH more horsepower, AND can be fitted with a machine gun. the shittacular russian UAZ...not so much XD

Have you ever driven such a car? Have you seen what its capable? The pure horse power comparison is not valid here either. Its equipped with a reduction gearbox and very low gear ratios so it has more torque on wheels than normal road vehicles with bigger engines. You just can't accept that UAZ-469B is not such a bad car.

However, my point was that you cannot compare a military designed vehicle to civilian production cars. its like comparing apples to oranges. Also, if you haven't noticed he always goes on these rants about communism and blah blah blah. there is no point to his argument in this episode, just the fact that he hates communism and their attempts at making cars.

I worked on these things on occasion. and to give it a little bit of credit, it had one thing going for it. You could rip the car apart from bumper to bumper from hub to hood, with only about 8 different wrenches (no sockets needed) and a screwdriver. A very important attribute because they were always, to some degree, broken. The gearbox was weak.

UAZ is a military 4x4, its not supposed to be used in everyday life on normal roads.
Its like complaining that Jeep Willis has no doors or stereo. Sadly Top Gear or all other spin-off shows (like Jeremy C. Motorwold etc.) are not about professional info about cars. They are just entertainment. Sadly people are believing in the distorted reality shown there....

@LechuCzechu russians have always made utter shit vehicles, if you compare this UAZ to the military jeep of the 60s you will find that the jeep is just as cheap, but is actually comfortable for the soldiers in side(because the US military expects their soldiers to live for more than 3 minutes MAXIMUM on the battlefield unlike the russians)it is also faster, more durable and reliable, has MUCH more horsepower, AND can be fitted with a machine gun. the shittacular russian UAZ...not so much XD

You can mount an MG on the UAZ, but what for since its not a vehicle used in battle.
UAZ 469 has 70HP compared to 60HP of Willys M-38.
It has top speed of 105 km/h while Willys can go only up to 88 km/h.
Not only you built worse car than Russians, but you are 100% brainwashed.

WHY would you compare a vehicle from the 70s to a vehicle from the 50s(willys jeep M-38)??? the whole point of a utility vehicle is to transport light loads to their destination and to move troops extremely quickly across all terrain. if you have a vehicle that can only pull about 1000lbs and that only has 70HP that equipment and those soldiers are going NOWHERE in that UAZ! when you compare them to the later jeeps of the 60s UAZ FAILS MISERABLY!!!

Have you ever driven such a car? Have you seen what its capable? The pure horse power comparison is not valid here either. Its equipped with a reduction gearbox and very low gear ratios so it has more torque on wheels than normal road vehicles with bigger engines. You just can't accept that UAZ-469B is not such a bad car.

@hotpocketpoison the MUTT was worse on road than the uaz and was not permited to be used as a civilian vehicle as it rolled other all the time which was caused by its crappy suspension and jeeps werent as versitile as the uaz (something the army likes alot when bying a vehicle)and it could carry more stuff and the jeep was just as dangerous as the uaz in a crash and live axles(like the uazs) are better for offroading than the mutts FIS setup just admit that uaz is better than the shity yank jeep
