@Jasey1258 My job was Electronic Engineering (no mechanics!), now I'm retired. For the full story of my Big Boy look at my website ferroviefelettane.it
@albertocelot I can't read it coz its not in English, Did you have to go to a factory to bend and make the metal or did you do it yourself with machines of your know? Coz i love all sorts of model trains and i was wondering what sort of job would help me witht that, i love cad and maths so its in my area of work to
The Union Pacific Museum for the 150 anniversary of the company has ordered from the company S.J. Models a replica of the Big Boy in 1:16, smaller and not live steam.
The Display will be built from Proto-models of Torino
I love the questions. Live Steam has been so underground for so many decades and with YouTube everybody wants in on this hobby. I can't blame anybody because model trains are a kick in the butt especially ones you can ride.
Hey, I could see myself doinging this and love trains, I plan to attempt to make an up big boy, but i have 0 experience in um... THIS area, I am a skilled and neat builder in my eyes, am 15, and would love to start somthing like this, any tips or things I should know to get the most out of my build?
Beautiful,I'm learning my metals to become a custom knife maker but this talent is a whole other level, simply brilliant, good luck with this project and God bless. The grand kids must bug you a constant to ride.
You Sir are a master craftsman no doubt, That locomotive is priceless in my oppion, i would put your tallents and skill way beond a seist watch maker.
What a truely amazing piece of work. WOW The skill, craftsmanship, time & patience to scratch build this just blows my mind! Kudo's on a 10star vid as well. Love the track plan of you layout.
Looking forward to seeing further progress on the steam crane, keep up the great work!
@albertocelot Must be almost priceless. We used to have a miniture railroad near where I live, the loco's were about twice the gauge of yours but they had a live steam Bigboy there. That lcoo alone made somewhere in the region of a million GBP's when all of the RR and its rolling stock was sold off to make room for holiday lets / apartments.
@albertocelot id pay 10000 for that if your willing to sell it , some one said to me a live steam bib boy wouldn't work cos its difficult to get enough coal or oil into the back of the firebox but obviously it dose
you made this wow you got skills have you worked for any railroads in the past for you to want to get into something like this that is cool what you sould make in a N&W j class #611 now thats a nice streamer the n&w j class is my all time fav loco i still cant beliveyou made the whole thing thumbs up 5 stars
Thank you for your kind words. Now I'm building a 1" scale 5" gauge Bucyrus Erie 250 Ton railway steam crane. You can look at my website (you can find it in my profile) at the page "In costruzione"
but there is a very good reason that only models are operating.and it is bigboys are just to enormous to operate practically sure on a one mile straight track that might work but come on that would be as much torture to a big boy as sitting in a park.
@atsf7809 The union pacific chalenge(2-6-6-2), a little bit smaller of big boy (4-8-8-4) is still in working condiction well restored by ex rail men. Yo can see some recent video of his trips.
Put again in work condictions a big boy is possible. You must have millions dollars. Steam it for a trip you must buy 30 tons of coke.....
Now that's an amazing piece of engineering! You've realy built a fanatastic machine.
However, it caught my attention that the two driver sets never remain synchonised. At 4:25, the rear driver set can even be seen standing still, while the locomotive is moving.
How come those two driver sets move at different speeds?
The loco was being run-in and the circuit isn't well levelled, so due to the different frictions the two sets of driving wheels can slip or even stall in some moments.
It needs to run for some time to "stretch the wheels"
He's probably got the (steam?) brake on the back unit, and no brake on the front unit? Hence the drivers on the rear unit locking up as he came to a stop, I'd guess.
@Dappdude This is actually a "two in one" loco. The wheel sets are 4-8-8-4. Two sets of independent engines in this locomotive on the two sets of 8-8 wheels. Look at the first start of the clip, the steam from the cylinders come from both the front end and at about in the middle of the locomotive from the second set of cylinders. This is one Masterpiece of a replica, very well done!!
Dear Sir please view my channel as I know of another 5 inch gauge Big Boy infact it is the one at my own railway club. It is great to see another engine of this type in operation
Dear Sir, I am a railway enthusiast and I also have interest in rail modelling and live steam locos. I would love to see your locomotive, given the chance. Are you a member of any live steamers society?
WOW!!! i visited your website. the building of the Bigboy was very impressive. you got to really know your stuff to take on a build like this. 5 stars. but you deserve 10.
@DickBigs this is not a toy, this is a fully operational steam locomotive in 5 inch gauge, and in order to drive it u sit on the seat on the tender, it is proplily so heavy u cant lift it up with your bare hands with only one person
Hi Alberto, Toni, Dianne, and I love that scene where you go through the flowered tunnel. Are those roses? Very family oriented video! Uncommon today. So we are thankful for the video. Did Lucio do the filming?
