I love this song too. When I close my eyes it makes me see things. I think it sounds creepy because it uses some minor chords rather than major. Any music majors out there care to comment?
@leconser It sounds like the The Ray Conniff Singers, but as though someone thought it would be a good idea to either remix it, or add recent background music. (Sigh) Like the old saying goes: "If it ain't broke, why fix it?"
I agree this is not the exact same version that's on the old record, but it's the same nominal arrangement. I kinda like it better, actually. And I also like the buildup toward the end. It creates an oddly appropriate sense of urgency.
I'm with the other posters who say this is NOT the same song as on the album or cd. The original is a faster paced song and the singers had slightly higher voices. What I've loved about this song is the dramatic ending with everyone singing in unison, but here it almost sounds a little demonic.
@takipe and others who said its the original Ray Conniff, we can't do anything if you guys cannot recognize the real Ray Conniff and the fake. I don't have any knowledge of two versions of Conniff's Xmas songs but definietly this one really sounds like being done using electronic musical instruments and not the original and real instruments used during those time. The voices sounds like an ordinary choir from somewhere.
