Pardon me, but Vidal is cracked. Calvino lived most of his life in Italy, and wrote all of his work in Italian, not French. Vidal's attitude toward Hemingway and Faulkner is disheartening as well. Calvino is wonderful, Vidal is... old.
@samfrizell yes, Gore Vidal was only a personal friend of Calvino, what does he know ? you on the other hand are undoubtably much more knowledgable about his life and character..
