The real solution is to have the game teach them how to play. Good games teach you how to play while you're playing them. Go watch on Penny Arcade TV the Extra Credits episode #8 on Tutorials. This has been a failing of MMO's since the beginning. They spend all their time creating massive worlds with complex character classes but never stop to teach the player what a rotation or priority list is. It's not hard to teach these things - it's just the game doesn't try at all.
I have an idea. How about someone (like maybe ZAM??) create a series of class based video guides. These wouldnt be guides to being super competitive top-raiding guild candidates. but rather basic guides to speccing, gearing, gemming, and rotation that will get players up to that "competent" level quickly.
From that point they can pull their weight, and can get advice from guildies and places like EJ to take them that last 5% of the way to Pro.
@bazwollv People who dont know what they are doing, dont go to ElitistJerks. Even if they did, they probably would probably get banned for asking noob questions, and probably wouldnt understand what they found there, because its written for people who are already highly knowledgeable about class mechanics.
If Blizzard does something like this they have to put the tutorial system in place for it. It's just a crap shoot on whether "bads" will take it. If they did add the necessary tutorials/info for spec like this they should add them for things like keybinds/mouse turning as well because that's really were bads come from. I mean you can only water down the game so much, half the reason people log in is to figure things out and figure them out better than someone else.
Maybe I just read that blue post wrong, but I took blizz as saying this.

When this happens you don't build holy power as quickly as you would have standing still beating on a boss and then have wasted the up time of inquisition making it not a good use of holy power for that 30 sec. of dps.

its hard for some new ret palys to see when the inq buff ends cuz theyr focus on other stuff, thats why there are addons like power auras to put a nice icon on the mid of your screen telling you how much time is left till the buff ends. Thats a tip for the new ret palys out there.
I don't bother helping people out with specs and rotations in random dungeons cause people usually just get angry and upset cause "you're telling them how to play the game"... so yeah.
i dont think theres any point playing this game if ur not going to play it to get a serious goal, for eg high pvp rating or high end heroic content, anything low end is just wipefest and no fun, not to mention the game has so much data to learn that if u dont play serious hours u cant learn to play properly...hence baddies remain bad
Why would anyone voluntarily choose to wear a dunces cap? I look forward to this change, its one more indicator for me to rightly kick a fail dps before the first pack pull/start my deserter debuff timer rolling. theres nothing worse then a 45 minute dps queue, then 20 minutes wiping on trash in the failboat, to then have to join the back of the queue with a repair bill to boot.
I wouldnt let a fr use this glyph: fastest possible way to get kicked from a Barradin hold pug.

If I am ever doing a random dungeon and I see someone doing something wrong that I actually know how to correct I always ask if I can make a suggestion to them and then tell them what they did wrong and suggest how to fix it. 7/10 times people will just get angry and say things such as "I know how to play my class" and tell me I'm wrong. Those other 3 though really appreciate the help and they actually make improvements because of it. It really is a hit and miss when you try and help people.

the thing with inquisition is that... plain and simple, the mechanic sucks. i hate to look constantly at my buffs to see if i need another application. as a rogue is easier, for example i'm combat and i'm able to make 2 5points ultimates after a 1 point slice and dice. and i never, ever, have to look at my buffs.

okay im mage in wow and i want to play fire but no one gives my mages fire spec a chance cus arcane is so much beter but ofc its a beter BUT I DONT WANT TO USE 4 buttoms for whole fight thats why i wanan play fire its not like im new to the spec i know how play it i can pull 20k dps with but in arcane i can pull 30k why does it matter so much what spec i play i can do over 20k dps im not a hc raider just 6/7 normal mode cus my guild kicked me cus i went fire :(
What you're talking about is cookie cutter glyph choices and rotations. This will not change until Blizzard gets rid of ALL cookie cutter choices. Once MoP comes out, whatever Blizzard does, there will be some asshat out there saying, "You have have X, Y, and Z." And that's how players are killing WoW. Blizzard had a hand in it, but the players have the upper hand.
I would choose using the Inquisition glyph because maintaining the buff is sometimes more boring that using Templars Verdict to dish out big numbers. Changing my rotation to be more fun is a valuable option to me, moreso than maybe doing 1% more dps.
The problem with "bads" is that they hang around with too many "bads". Random heroics dont exactly help them either and they can't get into any guilds.
If you spend your time with good players who assist you, you tend to become better.
@ 6:05 something similar happened to me...as an arms warrior if you want to get the best possible DPS you have to use stance dancing...and at first i couldn't do it right, so my dps was lower...but in the end i managed to get it right and in the end my DPS went up.
What makes it bad is that perfectionist number crunchers raise the bar for other players. Like people who are not 20 yo or people who dont spend hours per day reading theory threads and stuff, so they are considered bad. Or maybe they just have their own playing style
When I play ret, I don't even really bother with Inquisition because I just can't keep it rolling - there's too many procs for me, personally, to keep track off. I can handle snd pretty well, but there's a lot less procs on my rogue - snd is just another "beat" in the rogue song. The ret glyph would be amazing for me, because it makes up for a short coming I have, so it feels like a smart choice there for me. Is it the best? no, and I shouldn't do best damage either, but it's better than now.
Not all paladins are rets, i think this will be great for prot paladins right now we have 12 sec Inqusistion for 3 holy powers, and its relly hard to keep it up if you want to use Shield of the righthoes aswell.
Lore.... truthfully.... this type of thing really is just adding extra crap to the game thats unneeded. Why put something into the game someone would have to say "I am bad so ill chose THIS and Blizzard said i should"
Cmon... BADS only get GOOD by talking to other players, reading websites, watching videos, practinging.
Talk to other good players..theyll find someone who will take the time to explain.
Agree with everything said, except that everyone has the potrntial to be paragon like. Everyone has different brains, and some brain types just happen to be more suites to wow raiding.
Lore, you are playing too far good player vs bad player debate, and is it better to use a bandage to help mend the incorrect way, or is it better to dig in and actually correct oneself and do it correctly.
Think of it like this, one night I'm progressing on Heroic Rag - Don't take that glyph.
The farm night before that when I'm drunk out of my mind - Take the Glyph
It's not that I don't know what I'm doing, but putting that glyph on lets me slack more. I can still do my DPS (maybe better), but I have to work less to get the DPS required.
wtf lore , why did you ask your subs thier feedback this is obivuously targeting the bad players and no bad players are subbed to you, imo this is a great idea as a father to a son that plays WoW and isnt very good at the game, i would like for him to have a easy way to play better
Bads need to be bad in order to get good. Or else they will continue to be bads. This message brought to you buy the smartest man in the world. Maybe even in the universe.
My big thing is... Blizz needs to put out te obvious things... Like DON'T DO PVE IN PVP GEAR! I've done several heroics with people in PVP gear just not doing good... And I PuGd Cho'gall cuz someone in TC was adverting they needed a healer for Cho, and this disc priest in full PvP gear saying it's better than me FL/T11 gear is better... Then watching them go OOM before 2nd phase.. Shield spamming made me laugh...
I think the point of the glyph is to be swapped in for fights with lots of add switching and moving, giving you the option of not letting the buff drop for fights that youre not smashing a target dummy. I'm pretty sure you missed the point interly, nothing can make baddies not bad
@Chadwastaken yeah if people would stop in dungeons and explian to them there rotation thats how i was fixed in early WoTLK and thats what I do with badies today even in my guild our guilds raid tank went from being Fail Blood Dk to superuber BloodDK from his gear cause i explained to him what i knew about if from my Bro and what i learned online
They should chane ret paladins a bit, give CS no cooldown, and after a TV, inquisition should be refreshed, tha means more tvs and less worrying about inquisition, sort of like assassination rogues
Baddies will be bad, gear is so easy to get that this will just serve as a small help to weed out the baddies in good gear. I've seen so many bad people with T2 pvp weaps n stuff, it's hard to tell who is legit until it's too late and they cost you rateing or a wipe etc.
So.. they strats on paladin, why? coz there's a lot of bad players playing paladins. Funny that since wata launched, i saw a lot's of pals and owl disapeard. they did have a big dps in Wokl. but now you have to know how to play them.
I think one thing that has been missed here is that this glyph isn't just for the baddies, but for middle-skill people too. The problem is that middle-skill people can have decent knowledge, but lack awareness, reaction speed, etc. These players might let a buff drop off for a couple of seconds before reapplying and might still benefit from the glyph. They would never use it because they would see it as a DPS loss. "I already use this all the time, why would I reduce the effectiveness."
There needs to be middle ground and stepping stones for people to use because there are levels of grey in the player-base, not everything is black and white... in player skill, willingness and ability to do research, and gear level.
Technically Kill shot is glyph is good for progression on fights where the execute portion of the fight is the issues (like Rag). Or on fights where the execute phase is longer than other parts of the fight for some reason (like a reverse Ryo for example)
I'm just worried if they were to go that "easy" route with the Inquisition glyph that it would lead to even more easy mode options for "bad" players to the point they don't even want to learn how to be the best they can be.
Lore I actually happen to be one of the "not very good" players and I sometimes get advice from the "elite" fury warriors on my realm and I do what they tell me to the best of my ability. Although I'm not at the top of the dps meters, everyone calls me a "baddie" and I admit I'm not as good as I want to be at my class. Even though everyone says that I am "bad" I'd say I'm doing average. So do the players in the middle need improving or are they fine the way they are playing the game?
Maybe they should just give Inquisition like a 50% chance to proc off a Templar's Verdict. Honestly I don't think it needs to be an overly complicated or tedious skill to use. I generally avoid raiding with my holy pally's ret off-spec just because I find the spec to be tedious.
Sounds to me like something that would be used by someone who know he needs too keep that ability up, but is frustrated that he keeps failing at it. He says screw it, and glyph to make it easier to keep up. Without much thought of exactly how his dps will change.. sounds like an ok idea I guess.
for some of what you said ill use my GF as an example, she plays a mage and refuses to look up stuff of web sights because she doesn't care about being the best player she plays for fun.I feel that glyphs like this would be perfect for someone like her, it would help her feel like she is doing good and she would probably enjoy her playing time better but she wouldn't be part of the pull the best numbers possible crowd just because she does not worry about that.
I think this may be usefull for Pvp.. That is all considering the ramp time for rets. But with the "nerf" to Ret wings hammer rawr spam yeah You may be spending your time doing other spells aside from hammer off cd.. But then again it still may be worth doing even after the nerf
I been a rogue since classic. At the start of WoLK my my rotation when a bit mad. Slice and dice, rupture, expose armor(when needed) and hunger for blood. Hunger for blood at the time had three stack that you had to refresh every 30sec or you lost DPS. Also I was using kick, CoS, sprint, vanish, trinkets and what ever else i had.
I used glyph of slice and dice for a few week as I mastered that rotation in raids.
I think most baddies don't even run recount or skada. That being said, the only way people know that they are bad is if other players let them know that they are bad. I found that letting someone know that their dps is bad is better than just group kicking them. Even more, if you help them learn how to do better dps by quickly outlining their rotation to them, most players are very appreciative. However, in a dungeon environment it's good to help, in a raid I usually just kick
I don't think blizz need this. I started playing WOW when cata came out and now am in a guild which is 6/7HM and I am MT. With a bit of work and patience, anyone can get good. Blizz don't make the game so hard that only the people playing since vanilla can play. Obviousl there will be crap people, there are in every game, but the vast majority will be fine without it.
I miss the good old days of playing my arcane mage in BC. Where you actually used frostbolt in your rotation. And believe it or not, spirit was a decent stat to stack. (!)
so...paladins (easiest class in the game) are complaining about it being hard to play.. HAHAHAHHAHAHAHxDhHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHXXXHDDDDDDDDDDHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!
@MrSchismic well i have a pally, think the rotation is faceroll as shit, dont rly do much pve, pallys are the most faceroll shit ever in pvp.. hardest shit IMO is Enha shaman, never figured it out, i do the rotation like im supose to, i even copied a guildie and we have basicly the same gear and he did 20k and i did 17k.. ehh i duuno, but pallas are faceroll no doubt they are faceroll.
@thesickandwounded You should play different classes if you think pally is easy. I can't play ret. Every class is faceroll once you begin to understand how it works and your brain adapts to your binds. Paladins are a pretty complex class. I can play prot fine because that's what I'm used to, but ret is another thing entirely.
Warriors and mages I can for sure say are easier to learn.
@MrSchismic dude, i've played since early TBC i have almost every class 85 except Mage, rogue and hunter, but that's just cuz i personaly dont like them, every other class i have 85 or close too 85, and now that i've played every class in the game, i know what i like, i've got good arena rating and i've got nothing to do, the game is starting to get boring for me, so im thinking of freezing my acc untill MoP.. any way my point was, i've played different classes ;)
Veteran players don't care about the community, and hence WoW is like it is. New players come in and are left out to dry with labels like baddies or lazy. Since the community won't help then Blizzard tries to because it helps subs.
I like it! A lot of my friends were turned off from WoW because it was "hard" and there's no way they could raid with me b/c I'm in a 6/7H guild, but it would be awesome to do some Raid Finder groups with them and them not completely suck the big one.
I think Blizzard should implement it the other way around. Have the inquisition glyph being baseline (I havn't seen the numbers, so let's say it's now 20% extra damage, but lasts twice as long), and have a glyph to reverse it back to normal. That way the "bad" players will have the easy way out by default and they will have to actively chose the "hard way", instead of it being the other way around.
um..i was suprised because im a mm hunter...raiding w/ the killshot glyph..i still do the most dps out of everyone in my raid, i didnt find anything that said it was bad
I find it funny how blizz is always making changes to the game to cater to people who are bad. Playing a class competently in a pve situation honestly isn't that tough (don't keyboard turn and click abilities and read elitist jerks). Making justifications/changing mechanics for people who are lazy/don't want to improve themselves and cry about it is honestly retarded.
As you say, WoW takes no skill. Its just having basic knowledge. Badies will be badies. Ultimately some people just shouldnt be playing MMOs
But MMO endgame meta always been fucked. The idea and design of performance = spec is pretty flawed. Because that always pins you in a certain cookie cutter for your class. Which ultimately gives you just as much customization as if the game had no talent system at all. Which means they are better off removing talents/glyphs and basing it on player ability

Perhaps they will make something that tells them their bad, you couldn't keep your buff up! consider using this glyph it will make you less bad!
HeyAndrooSky 3 months ago
What you're talking about is cookie cutter glyph choices and rotations. This will not change until Blizzard gets rid of ALL cookie cutter choices. Once MoP comes out, whatever Blizzard does, there will be some asshat out there saying, "You have have X, Y, and Z." And that's how players are killing WoW. Blizzard had a hand in it, but the players have the upper hand.

I would choose using the Inquisition glyph because maintaining the buff is sometimes more boring that using Templars Verdict to dish out big numbers. Changing my rotation to be more fun is a valuable option to me, moreso than maybe doing 1% more dps.
johnnyvdoremalen 3 months ago
The problem with "bads" is that they hang around with too many "bads". Random heroics dont exactly help them either and they can't get into any guilds.
If you spend your time with good players who assist you, you tend to become better.
Rydoskraze 3 months ago
@ 6:05 something similar happened to me...as an arms warrior if you want to get the best possible DPS you have to use stance dancing...and at first i couldn't do it right, so my dps was lower...but in the end i managed to get it right and in the end my DPS went up.

What makes it bad is that perfectionist number crunchers raise the bar for other players. Like people who are not 20 yo or people who dont spend hours per day reading theory threads and stuff, so they are considered bad. Or maybe they just have their own playing style
Thickshymamita2 3 months ago
If they're gonna go that route, they might as well add something to the tooltip so there's no mistaking it being an "easy mode" glyph

SlaedCrow 3 months ago
When I play ret, I don't even really bother with Inquisition because I just can't keep it rolling - there's too many procs for me, personally, to keep track off. I can handle snd pretty well, but there's a lot less procs on my rogue - snd is just another "beat" in the rogue song. The ret glyph would be amazing for me, because it makes up for a short coming I have, so it feels like a smart choice there for me. Is it the best? no, and I shouldn't do best damage either, but it's better than now.
Jedisbar 3 months ago

MekAntman 3 months ago
My comment about the glyph is this:
It's not that I don't know what I'm doing, but putting that glyph on lets me slack more. I can still do my DPS (maybe better), but I have to work less to get the DPS required.

I think the point of the glyph is to be swapped in for fights with lots of add switching and moving, giving you the option of not letting the buff drop for fights that youre not smashing a target dummy. I'm pretty sure you missed the point interly, nothing can make baddies not bad

Technically Kill shot is glyph is good for progression on fights where the execute portion of the fight is the issues (like Rag). Or on fights where the execute phase is longer than other parts of the fight for some reason (like a reverse Ryo for example)
lizbliz 3 months ago
I'm just worried if they were to go that "easy" route with the Inquisition glyph that it would lead to even more easy mode options for "bad" players to the point they don't even want to learn how to be the best they can be.
TheExodus007 3 months ago
Lore I actually happen to be one of the "not very good" players and I sometimes get advice from the "elite" fury warriors on my realm and I do what they tell me to the best of my ability. Although I'm not at the top of the dps meters, everyone calls me a "baddie" and I admit I'm not as good as I want to be at my class. Even though everyone says that I am "bad" I'd say I'm doing average. So do the players in the middle need improving or are they fine the way they are playing the game?
Peregora23 3 months ago
Maybe they should just give Inquisition like a 50% chance to proc off a Templar's Verdict. Honestly I don't think it needs to be an overly complicated or tedious skill to use. I generally avoid raiding with my holy pally's ret off-spec just because I find the spec to be tedious.
MarchHare2009 3 months ago
@MarchHare2009 That wouldn't really be a good idea considering how RNG retadins are already.
dbotroniclol1 3 months ago
Sounds to me like something that would be used by someone who know he needs too keep that ability up, but is frustrated that he keeps failing at it. He says screw it, and glyph to make it easier to keep up. Without much thought of exactly how his dps will change.. sounds like an ok idea I guess.
jamtberg 3 months ago
for some of what you said ill use my GF as an example, she plays a mage and refuses to look up stuff of web sights because she doesn't care about being the best player she plays for fun.I feel that glyphs like this would be perfect for someone like her, it would help her feel like she is doing good and she would probably enjoy her playing time better but she wouldn't be part of the pull the best numbers possible crowd just because she does not worry about that.
iamwura1 3 months ago

@thesickandwounded ...Lol. What class do YOU play that's so hard? When was the last time you played a pally, or are you just an ignorant douchebag?
MrSchismic 3 months ago
@MrSchismic well i have a pally, think the rotation is faceroll as shit, dont rly do much pve, pallys are the most faceroll shit ever in pvp.. hardest shit IMO is Enha shaman, never figured it out, i do the rotation like im supose to, i even copied a guildie and we have basicly the same gear and he did 20k and i did 17k.. ehh i duuno, but pallas are faceroll no doubt they are faceroll.
thesickandwounded 3 months ago
@thesickandwounded You should play different classes if you think pally is easy. I can't play ret. Every class is faceroll once you begin to understand how it works and your brain adapts to your binds. Paladins are a pretty complex class. I can play prot fine because that's what I'm used to, but ret is another thing entirely.
Warriors and mages I can for sure say are easier to learn.
MrSchismic 3 months ago

Maximusrex4575 3 months ago
that mage was doing it right...they obviously just need to buff mages.
xbox360ROCKS777 3 months ago
I like it! A lot of my friends were turned off from WoW because it was "hard" and there's no way they could raid with me b/c I'm in a 6/7H guild, but it would be awesome to do some Raid Finder groups with them and them not completely suck the big one.
Schisme 3 months ago
I think Blizzard should implement it the other way around. Have the inquisition glyph being baseline (I havn't seen the numbers, so let's say it's now 20% extra damage, but lasts twice as long), and have a glyph to reverse it back to normal. That way the "bad" players will have the easy way out by default and they will have to actively chose the "hard way", instead of it being the other way around.
Iralaeh 3 months ago
Does Blizzard watch these? If they don't they really should.

I find it funny how blizz is always making changes to the game to cater to people who are bad. Playing a class competently in a pve situation honestly isn't that tough (don't keyboard turn and click abilities and read elitist jerks). Making justifications/changing mechanics for people who are lazy/don't want to improve themselves and cry about it is honestly retarded.
keny46 3 months ago
As you say, WoW takes no skill. Its just having basic knowledge. Badies will be badies. Ultimately some people just shouldnt be playing MMOs
But MMO endgame meta always been fucked. The idea and design of performance = spec is pretty flawed. Because that always pins you in a certain cookie cutter for your class. Which ultimately gives you just as much customization as if the game had no talent system at all. Which means they are better off removing talents/glyphs and basing it on player ability
