  • My high school marching band is half that size

  • On, Wisconsin!

  • go marching bands! the hands are shaking

  • "**** Eastern! Let's Go State!"

  • All that hate only makes me more proud to be a member of the Spartan Marching Band.

  • Correction high school band is half the size not the school in general

  • Go MSU Sparty On!! Well dammit just realized something my high school is atleast half that size =) go grizzlies!! While other local bands only have like 30 members!

  • Four years in a row!! Go State Beat the Badgers!

  • the whole thing where the drum majors bend all the way back and touch their heads to the ground yeah michigan started that

  • what does 5 stand for?

  • @FloydTheBarbara That's an S not a 5!

  • Outstanding. I love the drum majors' backbend after the fanfare.

  • I just realized something when msu started to play emu's fight song the crowed was saying go green go white, but the irony in it all is that emu's colors are green and white.

  • The whole "Spinning the S" thing is one of the sweetest visuals I've ever seen, and that fight song is the greatest fight song in the history of college sports.

  • GREAT! Almost as good as WVU's band formation of the outline of the state of West Virgina.

  • Comment removed

  • @schs1977 Dooood, WVU's not even in the same league as the SMB. That outline is sorta nifty, but what we do in SMB is so much more precise and polished in every way.

  • @jswartz42 SMB Not even close to WVU. It is EASY to make a Big S - look at WVU making the outline of the state of WV. BTW - U of Michigan band is way much better than your liitle middle school band

  • @schs1977

My thoughts watching the WVU Band:

    1) Lol, helmets.

    2) Look like decapitated chickens running onto the field.

    3) Holy horn angles, Batman.

    4) Jesus Christ, stay in tune.

    5) Spacing is atrocious.

    6) Roll step? I think?

    7) The shape of the state IS cool. But given the form they were in immediately beforehand, plus the fact that I'm sure they never stop practicing it, it's not terribly difficult to polish the ONE difficult form.

  • @schs1977

Also, the MMB has 50 more members than and puts out half the sound of the SMB. Happy to say the SMB don't use capes or shakos, either. (You'd think a band that lauds its own "traditions" and "history" would at least stay truer to a military look than a shako, for Christ's sake.) The SMB chooses a marching style that looks flashy without interfering with sound quality (umad, cockroach-stompers?)

If you were qualified to speculate on marching bands, you'd at least realize this much.

  • Get some straighter lines....oh jut kidding...impossible.

  • looking at the date this was put up i realize.... i'm somewhere in that crowd

  • Great job Coach D and the 2010 Spartans!!!

  • "Want to now how to upset Michigan State?"

I don't think there's anything a Walmart Wolverine who can't spell "know" can possibly do to upset a Spartan.

  • WHO CARES about U of M. Seriously people, just shut up and watch their awesome band. God.

  • having marched independent world winterline, the kickstep is still the hardest thing i've ever done.

  • Comment removed

  • @michiganfootball99 Want to know how to upset a Wolverine? Step on their precious block M this Saturday at the diag. Oh, and correct their spelling too, after telling us we can't read or write hahaha

  • @CrzyAzn5103

You wont be able to there will be students guarding it. And dont worry, we already peed on sparty the statue

  • @michiganfootball99 It's alright, I already took my shit on the block M this Summer.

  • @CrzyAzn5103 No one cares if you step on the M. I do it every day.

  • how many you got in there state? about 50,000?

  • that is awesome!!! they really know there places

  • Michigan State is a class act.

    These kids are great!

  • Just saw your band perform at the Alamo Bowl, and was impressed when they played the TX Tech fight song. MSU has alot of class and I have alot of respect for State and wish them the best.

  • All Big Ten bands play the opponents Fight Song during the pregame, its our tradition. Some also play it post-game win or lose. Also you will notice that almost all the Big Ten bands carry the flags of all the conference schools during the pregame show. a tradition that the Longhorn band does continue in the Big XII. Also, when a visiting band is present at a Big Ten school they are allowed to perform pregame - a tradition the BigXII does not allow for some reason.

  • @raiderodessa State has some class; OSU doesn't. But playing the opposing team's fight song is a Big Ten thing. Almost every Big Ten band does it for conference and non-conference games alike. That's Michigan, OSU, MSU, Iowa, etc.

  • @raiderodessa Yeah I know. I was in Goin' Band last year, and it was so cool to see SMB. They really are one of the best.

  • I saw this band yesterday in San Antonio. When they arrived at the stadium and marched down the street, that was badass.

  • Is there a better band in the country than Michigan State? Band experts say no. Go Green!

  • It is soooo beyond pathetic that you associate your self worth with your sports teams that you have nothing to do with. Go do something to actually feel proud of yourself for.

  • LOL you crybaby. Just accept your raping like a man. I agree central sucks, but ffs be a sportsman, not an immature dick.

  • Go White!!!!

  • GO GREEN!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hold on..MSU doesnt even have a "level"...hahaha that is awesome...maybe you don't realize...you are 1-2! and lost to the mighty Chippewas of CMU!!! hahaha FIRE UP CHIPS!!! MSU is not good at football, get over it.

  • You can talk shit when you DON'T play in the MAC and actually have a football team tha can actually play for a meaningful championship. Oh well, I guess you'll be seeing Purdue in the Motor City Bowl this year.

  • MSU doesn't really play for a championship at all lol considering MSU's last big ten title was almost 20 years ago! And yeah, keep bashin the MAC, who the last couple years has done some damage to the Little Ten.

  • Jeez... I wish Purdue could go to the Motor City Bowl, being in the marching band there.... They'd be lucky to have that.

  • Little Brother Michy cracks me up. They beat Western and ND and think they are on MSU's level. Funny stuff.

The fact remains that Michigan State will NEVER lose to their little brother as long as Rodriguez is the head coach.

This doesn't mean that Michy can't have a good season. It just means that they will never beat MSU. Nothing wrong with that.

  • Wow... I don't get it... Michigan State is not a good football team and they don't have a history of being a good football team... at least not up to Michigan's standard. What are you basing this theory on. Why is Rich Rodriguez the reason Michigan wont beat State? Better luck in basketball buddy because in football The University of Michigan will always be number one. And what you just said "they beat western and ND" it seems as though Michigan State has lost to Central Michigan and Lost to ND.

  • your an idiot. MSU has just as many NC's as UM and until 1997 we had more. You just stack your schedule with cupcakes to win more. Winning-est program my ass. (EMU, WMU, IND, DSU)

  • i like the state marching band, but not the team

  • Great game yesterday Guys. You will have a lot of trouble with Jimmy Clausen. We'll at least your kings of the MAC. Oh wait, never mind. Go Blue!

  • how come a bunch of Michigan idiots always comment that they are better at everything, when it is a marching band video? I am a buckeye fan and they do the same thing on any of TBDBITL's videos. I do like Michigan State though.

  • who compares marching bands......

  • fendawg12 Trust me people on most of these band videos always say there band is the best. And then it starts a huge conflict. Seriously whenever you get time just type in a random college and read the mean comments. Its sooo funny.

  • LOL at UMAA's spread offense. You have ZERO national championships in basketball. MSU has 2.

When was the last time you won a national championship in hockey? We won it two years ago.

When is the next time you will beat Michigan State in football. That's right. Not for a long, long time.

When is the last time michy had a respectable marching band? That's right.

Go back to Walmart, little bro.

  • i love how you have one good season and you get so cocky. and the fact is yea we have fallin a little bit but we'll be back to pummeling you assholes soon enough. every big school in the nation you competes for a championship runs some form of the spread (florida, usc, oklahoma). you lost a lot of key players a def won't be as good a you were. a few big 10 championships in the coming years lol?? what a joke

  • what the hell are you talking about lol? we have won the pontiac challeng cup 8 out of the last 9 years you idiot. the cup goes to the school with more wins in all sports between michigan and msu. one win in 9 years for msu football against michigan is pretty pathetic bro. and if i remember right we swept you in hockey also. get your facts right

  • First off, there's no such thing as the pontiac challenge anymore because there is no such thing as Pontiac anymore. And two, you're just like any other Wolverine fan who like suUM because of the fact they used to be good and you live in the past. As for us Sparty fans, we look to the future and we see ourselves at least a few Big Ten championships within the next few years and we see you, still with Rodriguez fighting for that last bowl spot trying to get back to the elite with the spread.

  • Michy will always be Michigan State's little brother. I know that you are a fan and your opinion will be bias, but look at this thing objectively.

Michy is INFERIOR at everything! Attempting to put Michy on MSU's level is like putting Appalachian State on mich's level...oops, bad example.

The fact that MSU has been superior at everything despite the recent findings of mich CHEATING is quite remarkable.

  • LOL. Michigan has, and always will be, Michigan State's little brother. Those are the facts.

The quicker you accept that, the easier it will be to sleep at night. Enjoy your school for what it is: a fine, Big Ten academic institution. It just happens to be MSU's litle bro, little bro.

  • I tell you, State is OUR little brother becuase they loose to us at about anything. ( except basketball).

  • C'mon, red headed step child. Michgan has, and always will be, Michigan State's little bro.

Football was the only thing you were slightly better at. Now you are inferior in EVERYTHING. At least you still have ugly chicks to look at.

  • Let's see. We are still better than you at hockey, football, baseball, and lax, and so on. So you are OUR little brother. You guys finally found a positive, you learned form your big brother how to beat us once every 7 years. Congrats.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't want to come off as sounding mean, but Michy is MSU's little brother. You are inferior at EVERYTHING except your law school.

Let's be honest, the wolvys are not athletically inclined. Sure, you used to have a very good football program, but not any more. You don't even have as many national titles as Michigan State.

  • You forgot about how YOUR TEAM is inferior at everything. And when you give me that stat I'll believe that little brother has more national titles than michigan. LOL. Go blue. Hey next we'll teach you how to get your band out of marching in a straight line.

  • I forgot that Michy has a competitive chess team. Ann Arbor reaks of inferiority.

  • did you say michigan was better at hockey??? lol wow you need to check a stat book big guy

  • Comment removed

  • Really? Who has more wins? Who has more National titles? Who has the best winning percentage? Who has won the most games in the series? Ya, thats what I thought. Stupid little clueless MSU grad.

  • def never went to msu......just have facts........ by the way how did that msu-michigan game go this year?? check and mate, better luck next year dumbass..........GO GREEN!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @dblock1788 MSU won

  • 35-21 and 3-9

get used to it, there will be more to come

it's not over, it's just starting

  • @hardwicg

Lol, Michigan owns a 30 game advantage in the series. State is nowhere near the level Michigan is on football - every team has off years (including the power houses). Enjoy it while you can, because it won't last long.

  • @Soulfire21 hey soulfire so u guys hav had a very long off year man 3 years

  • @Soulfire21 dude we have twice as mny national championships in the last 50 years so u guys were good in the days when the forward pass was considered a trick pla? boy that must have been sweet

  • @Soulfire21 That's what all you Wolverines said about basketball after you went down the tubes. . . about ten years ago? Believe it. If you think Michigan's football team is going to dominant, it might take more than a few "off years" to recover from the Rich Rod era. Have fun living in the past. What level are you on now? Now for the band. . . the SMB is the greatest!

  • @hardwicg Actually Michigan has better players than MSU right now and the scary thing is that 75 percent of the team is freshmen and sophmores. Imagine what it's going to be in about two years.

  • @UMAnnArbor2 a bunch of old chokers with a joke of a coach?

  • @hardwicg How about 8-0???

  • @hardwicg How about 8-0??? 2010!!!!!

  • Screw the blue Go GREEN!!

  • @michiganfootball99 have fun watching your program fall apart...o wait you already are. talk shit the next time you beat us in a sport dumb ass

  • @michiganfootball99 haha scoreboard :P

  • @michiganfootball99 lets not forget 34-17

  • Comment removed

  • @michiganfootball99

This must be tough for you. MSU wins three in a row against the skunk helmets AND goes on to win the Big Ten championship. And to boot your coach cries like a baby while listening to Josh Groban. Must be a great time to be Little Sister.

Oh, and it's basketball season too, things are about to get a lot worse for you...

  • @lehmanna36 SKUNKHEADS! I Love it! We call the scUM band Cock Roach Stompers because of the stupid way they march! Skunkheads and Cockroaches....perfect pair.

  • @Spartan00000000 Wait...really? Cause...the SMB and the MMB march in roughly the same fashion, only slight variations between our styles.

  • LOL You couldnt be farther from the truth. The mmb slams down on their heels making everything on their body bounce, including their instruments. The SMB has an 4-part movement to each step. Vastly different.

  • @Spartan00000000 ...as a member of the Michigan Marching Band, I can tell you that that's completely false. The MMB has a 4-part movement too. The MMB slams the toe into the ground, not the heel. The major difference between styles is that the SMB leads with the knee while the MMB leads with the ankle. The body does not bounce. In lock step (half time step that stays at 90 degrees), there may be a little bit of bounce but it is controlled.

  • @ieatglue44 As a former member of the SMB I got to watch both styles up close as well. You couldnt be further from the truth. Why do you think the mmb is called the cockroach stompers?! And why they have such an awful sound. All that bouncing and slamming. Give it a rest. I'm not reading any more of your messages. It's a waste of my time.

  • @Spartan00000000 That's fine, but for the record, our marching style isn't what it was in the 80s. I know how we march. I know how I march. It's not even close to your description. And to say that we have "awful sound," well...that's just ignorant.

You know, I think very highly of the SMB and have several friends who are members. It's a fantastic band. I've worked with some of the staff in the past. I find it rather pitiful that you can't appreciate another band. Have a nice day and Go Blue.

  • @lehmanna36 Sure we might lost to ya'll in football, but we did sweep you in basketball with no upperclassmen whatsoever, GO BIG BLUE, ya'll will still be the little sister!!

  • @michiganfootball99 thats weird, its almost like i can say the same thing about basketball...

    bow down big sis

  • @michiganfootball99 If you're a Michigan fan, what are you doing watching videos of Michigan State?

  • pretty darn good fight song

  • tools.

    fags.

    go blue.

  • screw the blue GO GREEN

  • Screw the green go BLUE!

  • SCREW TH BLUE GO GREEN! Sounds so much better copycat

  • TH? Lets try to spell before little brother can make his comeback

  • I loved 2:13

  • I'm kinda pissed the spinning S isnt in NCAA 10. Oh well, cant wait to head back up there this Fall for some more good times

  • The person in front of the band is called the Drum Major!

  • hi

i don´t speak english very well

but i like know ¿what is the name of the person that are to the front of the bands that have a baston?

    please i need this information!!!!

my name is juank if you know!!!!!

  • Damn, I guess Michigan State has a killer band and fans.

  • As a SMB trumpet alum from 1992-1994 this game was my first time back in Spartan Stadium in about 13 years. Thanks for posting this. Go Green!!

  • In my ranking I would say

    1. Ohio State

    2. Michigan State

    3. USC

OSU will always be the Best Damn Band in the Land, but I have enjoyed Michigan State coming down here to Florida so I can get a taste of a Drum and Bugle Corps.

  • @TheAffrontedAmerican Wooo OHIO. :-)

  • Heres a fact for ya University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hen Marching Band is # 1!!!!!!!

  • lol i remember this game, EMU had like 20 people in their band hahaha.

  • Also false. There is no official ranking for college bands - look that up. Closest you will come is rankings based on opinions of ESPN bloggers. There is no way to compare and rank college bands, since each one is different.

Why does it even matter that you are an MSU Spartan? Do you think that makes you sound unbiased?

Your statement that UM's band is better than MSU's is not fact - it is opinion. Learn the difference.

  • best school ever!!! fuck anyone else who says otherwise

  • Comment removed

  • This is so me next year :D

  • Comment removed

  • You mean Go Blow! haha

    GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I WIPE MY ASS WITH WOLVERINE FUR!!!

  • i bet you like that dont you?

  • OH NO!!! A MICHIGAN FAN WITH A HORRIBLE COME BACK!!!

I don't need a come back. The last 5 years back me up on everything.

  • i fuckin hate michigan

    and ohio state.

    and the last 5 years?

it gets old when you see the same fuckin team going to the BCS

and didnt ohio state lose the last time they went?

    nuff said

  • The "five years" comment refers to the 5 year streak on Michigan loosing to Ohio state. So you know what you bag of dicks? You can go root for those Gator faggots or any other SEC team you like and just leave us alone. If you haven't noticed, Big 10 bands beat the shit out of all the rest. That include those assholes at Wisconsin. They beat any SEC band with their eyes shut. Don't talk shit douche bag.

  • haha ok. once again ill state this though.

    i do not like michigan.

notice how this is a michigan STATE video?

  • u of m plagiarized their fight song. look it up :) and there is no such ranking in existence.

  • Not quite, it was written by a student. "The Victors" was composed by UM student Louis Elbel in 1898 following the last-minute football victory over the University of Chicago that clinched a league championship.[1] John Philip Sousa is quoted as saying it is "the greatest college fight song ever written."[

  • "Twenty-five years ago, in an expected, non-controversial interview, U-M Marching Band alumnus George Anderson dropped an unexpected bombshell. Anderson matter-of-factly noted the trio portion of Elbel's "The Victors" is nearly identical--note for note--to a march, entitled "The Spirit of Liberty," composed seven months earlier by George Rosenberg (Rosey), a ragtime composer out of Tin Pan Alley."

  • looks like u of m needed a little help in writing their trio (arguably one of the most important parts in a march next to the fanfare)

  • @bachstradster MSU's Fight Song melody is lifted from a hymn called "Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus."

Also, composers historically have borrowed from each other regularly. If Louis Elbel is a plagiarist, then so are Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc.

  • Holy shit were a loud student section lol.

    FUCK EASTERN! LETS GO STATE!

  • False, everyone else will agree that MSU has by far a better marching band. They probly have a higher ranked fight song for sure, but MSU has a much better band and much better cheers

    1,2,3 *clap*, FIRST DOWN BITCH!

  • It's ok =]

  • Well I like both bands but U of M definitely has gotten better over the years.

Big Ten Marching Bands are fun to watch =]

  • where is the nations most reconisable mascot ....... SPARTY!!!!!!

  • I think MSU is the best marching band in the State right now hands down, U of M is getting there....

As A EMU Eagle, it was awesome to play with MSU!

  • wow. so loud. great quality

  • So that is the students yelling "F**K EASTERN!!"?

  • sadly, yes it is.

  • Fuck you, sadly, it's fun and it's vulgar and it's part of football

  • John T. Madden rules!

  • Thanks for posting. :-)

  • ..yeah right. You wish.

  • love MSU the band and the school is awesome, my choir teaher was in the band when she went there and my dad works there so we get half off tickets. Go GREEN! GO WHITE!

  • Michigan State has one of the best band and team entrances in the country!
