Well, when I played Fallout 3, I managed to carry 3500 rounds of ammo for every weapon I had, plus about 30 nukes and 20,000 bottle caps. If the modern soldier can't do the same, then they just need more training. :p

You should have passed up multiple AKs from the bodies of fallen opponents before coming upon the preloaded stripper clips. But then magazines are so much easier to loose and harder to load and transport than strippers, being so large and staggered and high capacity and all. They must run away after the weapon empties.

I have nothing against the SKS at all. I don't recall ever having mechanical issues, jam-ups, etc. Imagine if the enemy knew it was policy for opposing troops to utilize captured ammo and weapons. A dirty trick they could use is simply fill the cartridges with C4 or some biological agent that would kill the person using their boobie-trapped equipment.

Dynmicpara had several good points in his video, while some of what he said may have not made sense the main "premise" of his video was pretty good, the 7.62x39 cartridge is very popular with the military forces in that region etc, obviously it's silly to carry a second rifle, but it would make sense to have weapons in that caliber readily available in case of SHTF situation...oh and, Artony92; you are deuchebag who needs to grow up...

isnt .308 the same caliber as 7.62 NATO(7.62x51)?

well, sort of....the .308 round is ever so slightly bigger in diameter than the 7.62 nato.  this allows for a gun chambered in .308 to also fire 7.62, but not vice-versa. it gives you more options: the .308 round is found at most all gun shops, it's cheap, and the ballistics are well known. 7.62 can be bought as military surplus and is therefor also easy to come by.

So for me, given the choice, I'd go with a gun chambered in .308.

A similar situation exists for 5.56 nato vs .223. The 5.56 is slightly larger than the .223, AND 5.56 cartridges are sometimes loaded with more of a charge than .223. Therefor, weapons chambered for 5.56 nato can also shoot the .223 as well, and have the added advantage of being engineered to handle higher chamber pressures.
