I see one major flaw in the way this is implemented for the game. You locked and fired at a target from 90 degrees off the boresight, even though that's outside the limits of both the IRST and the R-73 seeker. Also, the warhead seems a bit overdone, almost like a small nuke. :D

IRST and R-73 has a great manouverbility.

Greater than AIM-9L/M, but the AIM-9X is far superior in both agility and seeker effectivness. R-73 has a seeker angle-off limitation of 60 degrees in any direction, compared with the 90 of the AIM-9X.

Yeah but it slow, compared to IRST.

What do you mean by slow? Both are helmet-cued systems, which can slew around almost as fast as you can move your head to target them. Great differences appear when you compare the ability to attain a lock, where the AIM-9X's IIR seeker and higher off-boresight capability enables it to get a lock further and faster than Archer. Then there's IRIS-T, that's more beastly than either!

You mean AIM-9 is slow compared to R-73? Plausible, it does have a bigger rocket. I don't know how much I believe this, but the USAF is claiming Mach 3 on the AIM-9X. Who knows.

possible. Thats what I've read all over. It does carry a smaller diameter than the M model and possibly a smaller warhead. Could account for it. Besides, mach 2 would be too slow even in a nce circle fight. Dont want the bandit to have too much time to react

not sure, i am still at the beginner mode; i just opened new file below the one you started, and started missions from scratch but pick a diffirent branching/destiniy line this way you aquire planes that you missed on a 1-st file you play with; my buddy told me thats how you unlock more planes - open file and play each AREA but with going to missions that you didn't play before; try you will notice that you will unlock more planes

in this GAME maybe, but in real life The Aim-9x has thrust vectoring and is capable of making a 90 degree turn shortly after launch

look up in WIKIPEDIA they compare russian Vympel R-73 (known as AA-11 Archer by NATO) to AiM-9x; americans actually copied and improved design of the AiM-9x to compete with russian short range IR missile

yes, the Idea for a helment designated que is a great Idea, but look up the IHADDS system It controls a helicopter's gun we've had that for at least a deckade.

the R-27ET and the Hughs falcon IR guided medium range missile that was uses on the draken when it wa in service, as well as alot of older american aircraft. the IRIS-T and the R-40? * forgot if the R-40 came with a IR version*

i heard from sources *good ones not wiki* that the latest R-73 *other than the Python 5* is one of the most advanced AAMs out there to date. The python 5 is still the only on I know that has "over the shoulder" and "lock on after launch " capabilities. the game *like in Lock on* is model pretty good, and the missiles behave like the real thing. and from what I know, the Aim-9x only has an off bore sight launch of 30 degrees *maybe wrong* and also the raptor has no HMS, but the Flanker does

the R-77 has more range than an r-73, the aim 9X is off boresight capable up to 90 degrees and the Raptors will be outfitted with HMS here shortly. BTW the F-18 is also being upgraded like the F-35 where the HUD will be inside the helment, the New tech is amazing for Situational awareness.

i kept hearing that the Raptor may never get HMS, but even so, it still will be good. I still just wish some people here would give credit where its due. The russians have been known to out do use in a number of things, but you never hear people mention it because they are too busy saying that we are the best and we will blow everything out the sky....which I thinkis a bit far fetched or over imaginative.
