You mentioned trying the rotary joystick with .50 Caliber. I was curious if the game was very playable or frustrating? The original arcade machine used Loop 24 optical rotary joysticks rather than your 12 way mechanical joysticks. I'm wondering how big a difference trying to play with mechanicals would be. I'm also curious what you're using to interface your rotary joysticks to your MAME cabinet? The Ultimarc interface? I'm asking because I'm considering rotary joysticks myself. Thanks!
@readyplayer2 Yeah .50 Caliber is definitely playable. I never played the original so I don't really know how it compares but I had a blast playing it. And yeah, I'm using the Ultimarc interface. USB with 2 rotary interfaces. It simply sends keys presses depending on which way you turn which controller.
@TheDynamoGuy Yep, USB. Both rotation controllers plug into a single interface that is detected as a keyboard. Player one rotation sends open and closed brackets, player two rotation sends slash and backslash. I'd love to get my hands one a couple of those yellow octagonal ones, but these ones do work well.

@gbrendel Thanks for the reply and information, I'm happy to hear that. Good to know the Ultimarc interface will also work well.
