  • david bowie the teacher of rock

  • I want a woman and I want to think of a comment

  • but wait .... there's more!!!! LOVE IT

  • Awesome plexi guitar.

  • incredible live reproduction, and blowout performance

  • God is an American. You can just hear the n. Johnny wants pussy and cars! Yea we do!!!

  • lol i am afaid of americans and mail mans to ghahaha

  • When he says" God is an American" with that Midwest accent can't you just imagine a tv preacher saying it? Some Americans are awfully conceited and I think this song is aimed at them. Great song.

  • @19elgato46 Doesn't he say "God is in America" ??

  • @sannaols5582 No, it's a play on words.....he says 'God is an American' which insinuates that he is afraid of god

  • Love that song and music!!!!;0)

  • he should have hit his crotch like DX after 4:39 it would have been funny

  • can ne 1 tell me who the back up singer is not Em Gryner the other 1 please i could not make it out

  • Holly Palmer

  • im afraid of bussssssh

  • i love that last bit while he's saying god is an american. that solute he does is pure showmanship it's the coolest. also the backup singer with the blonde highlights is cute as all hell

  • like part at 4.40

    but wait there`s more..

  • what incredible forsight to record this song. I mean, it was '97, and no one likely took this song seriously. the world should not fear americans, but rather american corporations and governments...but, then again, those consist of american people.

  • who, at 3:31, after saying "johnny wants pussy and cars, jonnys an american', he looks TOTALLY pissed.

  • People say that the word genius is overused these days but in the case of David Bowie is a complete and utter musical genius!

  • @JRHartly1984

    the man

the most important on the face of the earth

  • @JRHartly1984 Not that I don't agree in the slightest, but I would like to point out that the song was co-written by Brian Eno, who is every bit a musical genius as Bowie.

  • @JRHartly1984 Yep, agreed :)

  • I love the way he performs

  • bravo

  • Should be the new World Anthem.

Great live at the Beeb, very scary on the DVD.

Very gutsy to produce this in in today's PC climate.Maybe the Republicans and George Dubbyah should take a listen.Take it from me God definitely ain't an American!!!!

  • "Gutsy"? Please! It's one of the safest things you can do. Bashing Americans is not only tolerated, it's encouraged and even celebrated across the world.

Until someone needs us, of course.

  • Bowies not America Bashing, he lives in NYC, but putting a spot light on rest of us who are afraid for no apparent reason of anything new

    BTW Happy Birthday Mr.Jones

  • Hold on? You say there's actually a DVD of this? Zounds, please tell me, where did you find/buy it? I am pretty damn sure there are a lot of people who'd want to know:) Like ME!!

  • 4:22 in, I remember when someone said that to me, a tourist of course, and I remember smiling pretending I didn't speak much english and recommending this song. He's got every reason to be afraid of them, their idealism is sickening.

  • Our *idealism* is sickening? What would you prefer -- crass pragmatism? Mercenary scheming?

  • Since McCartney made all his money in America, then he is (as Bowie is) a true American.

  • Have someone noticed that on 4´59 seems like he`s saying: Mc Cartney is an american? what do you think?

  • Hmm.. I sorta see what you mean. There's an extra syllable at the beginning of the phrase...could be just an exaggerated breath, but still...Any experts out there who can zone in on this????

  • To me it sounds like "My god is an american" Or "My god he's and american"

  • god is in america?

  • God is an american

  • I *think* he says "My God is an American" but I'm not sure.

  • I don't think he said "Mc Cartney" but "My god"... I dunno anyway

  • I wrote " seems like"...

  • But what the hell, Mc Cartney is a God any way, so...

  • excellent indeed, he remains the best, love this song and his performance

  • His little chuckle at the beginning is SO cute! xx

  • he just had sex with that song.

    l_T

  • This track - as with Bowie's style Hallo Spaceboy & just the whole of the show really - was just sheer brute force power & excellence! Saw the better overall sounding original show on the BBC & it blew my fuckin' mind! Absolutely & totally awesome!

    Happy 60th, Genius!

  • exellent ! Bowie the Master.
