You asked about just juicing the wheatgrass in a VitaMIx and drinking it without straining it.
Actually some people do that. However, I was taught that our stomach is not designed to digest grass. In fact my mentors warned that over the long term the grass will cut the lining of the stomach. So to be safe I always strain it.
I hate it when I miscalculate and have to wait for more to grow. my roomate gets mad he thinks it attracts bugs now I have to grow it outside, I found a few large pieces of plywood, then find some compost in the woods, and cover it with plastic and leaves in the shade. it takes longer to sprout in the summer this way. but still works. It seems like some people get hostile when you do something that actually works wonders.
I just chew it. it's hard to believe that this would work. you just put some water and ice in it? and strain it? I have been doing the wheatgrass thing for 2 months and 2 weeks now and it is by far the best thing I ever did for myself.
Placing wheatgrass blades into a Vita Mix and blending it will OXIDIZE the wheatgrass and render it USELESS for nutrition! You MUST use a wheatgrass juicer FIRST. Don't substitute a Vita Mix for a wheatgrass juicer.
@chemo38 clearly not USELESS. this guy lost 25 lbs and sees a noticeable energy increase, and i bet his results are not unusual. yes, a wheatgrass juicer would be OPTIMAL, but its not the only way. this works too.
great video, good recipe as many find wheat grass pretty hard to get used to because of the strong taste, and many don't want to purchase an extra wheat grass juicer. good job.
I don't have a Vitamix, so I tried Gene's method of juicing wheatgrass in a much cheaper Kitchenaid blender (one of the newer models - KSB560 - which runs about $100 on sale), and it worked just great! I use about 1/2 of water and no ice, and for a mesh bag I got a nylon paint strainer bag at Home Depot (2 bags for about $2.50), which was recommended in another Youtube video ("Juicing green juice with average blender & paint strainter"). Thanks so much for this video, Gene!
@MarkH10 - Is an enzyme not a type of nutrient? Nutrient - "A source of nourishment, especially a nourishing ingredient in a food." Sounds like vitamins, minerals, and enzymes all fit in there.
@MarkH10 These Vitamix and blendtek blenders are so powerful that the friction of the blades is enough to make a steaming hot cooked soup. Cooking definitely kills enzymes.
Congrats on gaining 25 pounds of lightness!!!! Thank you for this awesome video! I think this method is waaay more efficient than buying an expensive wheatgrass juicer.
Super Fantastic and Informative video!!! I already do own a VitaMix and as another has already stated, I would definately recommend others purchase theirs through your site!!
Thank you for making this excellent video. Now I'm convinced and can't wait to reap the benefits of wheatgrass juice. Your recipe sounds delicious also. I already own a Vitamix and I would certainly recommend to anyone who's thinking about purchasing one to get it through your website. Thanks again! :)
Thanks so much for this video.! I once drank a sample of wheatgrass juice at a convention for natural products. I couldn't believe how it made me feel. 2 oz turned me into a calm clear person. Until that moment I had felt nervous and stressed. I can't wait to start growing wheatgrass know that I know how thanks to your video! Keep them coming!
I'm not Gene, but I am a Vita Mix sales demonstrator and yes, the ice is to keep the juice cool because when left long enough, the VM can make hot soup! Frozen ingredients keep juices cool.
whats your opinion on what Dr. Brian Clement has said which is that Blending causes Oxidation which means that 85 % of the Nutrition is lost in a Vitamix
Thnaks for your comment.

What happens if you DO consume the indigestible wheatgrass fiber?

The benefits of growing and juicing your own wheat grass far outweigh the effort involved.
I had 4 oz of freshly juiced today for lunch.

It is easier when you get clean indoor potting soil.
No bugs....no flys.

@chemo38
You are 1/2 right here. Yes a manual juicer is best.
And a Vita Mix is fine if you don't have a manual juicer.
I recommend a stainless steel model as it will last forever and is easy t o clean.
Thanks for your comment.

Won't the high RPMs kill the nutrients????
gxxr1130 2 years ago
huh? How exactly do nutrients get killed? I understand high heat killing enzymes but I never heard of killing a nutrient.
MarkH10 2 years ago
@MarkH10 - Is an enzyme not a type of nutrient? Nutrient - "A source of nourishment, especially a nourishing ingredient in a food." Sounds like vitamins, minerals, and enzymes all fit in there.
gxxr1130 2 years ago
Restate how high RPMs kill nutrients, including enzymes, if they are your reference.
MarkH10 2 years ago
@MarkH10 - The heat generated from the high RPMs of a blender or centrifugal juicer reduce the level of nutrients. Just google RPMs heat juicer.
gxxr1130 2 years ago
@gxxr1130 I think the ice added doesn't allow the heat to affect any nutrients, because it never gets hot at all.

ok, can't you do this with a normal blender? and all you have to do is strain it as well?
EntFan1 2 years ago
sure you can with a normal blender, but its just not as easy or smooth as with a high power expensive model
ACEBAKER911 2 years ago
This is really cool. I would rather buy a Vita Mix than a juicer and I was wondering if you could use a VM w/wheatgrass.

One question: What is the purpose of blending the ice with the wheatgrass? Is it just to keep it cool?
