There may be a parallel between cats and autistic people. Cats are often misunderstood and considered disobedient and stubborn... when in fact they are just being themselves with no desire to conform or behave like another animal with more "human" traits. Autistic people are often misunderstood because they don't conform to our so-called "normal" behaviors. Who are we to judge and devalue cats or autistic persons?
I have been thinking about making a video about my cat. Was originally going to explain service cats, but now trying to figure out how to explain a lot about who she is as a person. And that she IS more than just "pretty markings" or whatever people say about her. She's also often misunderstood as mean, when she's actually quite caring.
My cat, Nigel, does this, too. He's funny. He'll sit on the sink and bat at the faucet until I come in to turn it on. One day, when I came home from work, the sink in the bathroom was running. He turned on the faucet on his own! He's almost 14 now though, so sometimes I have to lift him up to the sink in the morning. His tired, old bones don't always make the high jump.
Keep pestering for a cat. Try sitting miaowing next to him. Or create an imaginary one and talk to it constantly while he's around. I did that and it only took 5 weeks to change my boyfriends mind. My kitty is sitting on my lap as I type this :)
Wooo, kittah! :3
