  • you could stick it on a fridge!

    once the magnets on ,imean

  • will parchment paper work just the same as wax paper!?

  • very helpful:) thanks:)

  • @Pinseeker2010 Hi, I live in Kelowna too! Um I heard that they sell Mac at the Bay in the mall, im not 100% sure but thats what jy friends are telling me

  • or you could spend $6 less and just get the pan shadows if your gonna put them in a palette.

  • @liveluvbreathebeauty lol i know right

  • You depot shadows to place them in an empty pallet. You know, like the 88 color one from bhcosmetics or coastal scents.

  • what's the point of depot eye shadows??

  • @lindseyd9 To put them into a palette so easier to carry around together or keep together and easier to access them at the same time.

  • GREAT VIDEO!!!!

  • Where do you get the pallete you just put the color in???

  • how do you depot other shadows without breaking them

  • First off let me say I love all your videos! But I feel like this process is a pain in the butt. If you have a lot of eye shadows this will take forever! lol One thing I have that I LOVE is my mary kay magnetic palette!! You can customize it and put your colors where ever you want! The palette is $5.00 and all you have to do is start buying your shadows!!!

  • Ok so you depot them then what? You go to the store and give them those empty things? Do they sell those palettes too?

  • can you depot costal scents eyeshadows?

  • i just use the toaster oven! it melts away

  • @lilypoooo ok Thanks So much =D

  • what works out cheaper buying them in the pan or buying them in the pots depotting them and then back2mac 'in them ? x

  • Hey Marlena , i was wondering if u would no since ur part of the makeup world if u would no if there is a Mac Store in Kalowna . B.C Canada ! if u would no can u please comment back Thanks

    - Madison Deprez

  • @Pinseeker2010 check the canadian mac store site and find store locations

  • Can you use a piece of computer paper instead of wax paper?

  • @Morganize98 i used a napkin and it worked well

  • Can you use a piece of computer paper instead of wax paper?

  • Does anyone know where I separate the packaging for sephora brand eyeshadows? Basically the Sephora packaging equivallent of 0:40 in this video

  • Doesnt the heat mess up the product???

  • Thats is a great tip thanks xx

  • this really helped me, thank you so much:)

  • This might be a stupid question, but why do you put a magnet on the back of the eyeshadow/blush when you can just drop the eyeshadow/blush into the palatte?

  • @RachelSun17 without the magnet the eyeshadow will fall out of the palette if/when you turn the palette upside down :)

  • Marlena I had attempted to depot my shadow a few days ago and messed up. I should have seen this video before. This looked so easy.

  • I turn my knife back and forth I wturn my knife back and forth :D

  • just did this, worked beautifully. i didn't have wax paper, so used foil. =)

  • @Jenniet2002 I was thinking possibly computer paper! Great idea!

  • U save more $ by buying pan eyeshadows pots r $3.50 more therefore multiply by 6 you get 21bucks for what a $18 lipstick? Ur paying 3bucks extra. Even if it's an eyeshadow ur still wasting $

  • can you use baking paper instead of wax paper?

  • Can you do back to Mac without the tin in their?

  • @74dolphinjb yup

  • @74dolphinjb Yes you can! Haha, sorry wasn't sure if you got an answer, but you absolutely can :)

  • can you only buy the palettes at mac stores, or are the available at counters?

  • @amnee23 just at the stores, or online (:

  • I'm going to try this tomorrow! You're a very clear teacher! Thanks! :)

  • Thanks for the video. What happens if your shadow doesn't have the same color pigmentation after its been depotted? It seems like 2 of mine have "dried up" or something...

  • Whats the point of de potting your eye shadow?

  • @CAPACHiNOLove so you can put them in the palettes which are easier to carry around, and then you can have your everyday eyeshadows always with you!

  • @CAPACHiNOLove It is easier to take 15 in a palette than having a lot of single shadows flying about :)

  • Worked like a charm!! TY

  • Wow they put that shallow amount or eye shadow in that deep looking dish, I'm popping my shadows out asap to get my free lip gloss, thanks

  • Y do u need a magnet

  • @fashionforeverr To put it in a palette I believe.

  • @fashionforeverr So they don't fall out :)

  • I know this is a stupid question, but if I tried to do this with Studio Finish Concealer, would it melt the concealer?

  • @MrZanderJaymz It think it'll melt but after you let it dry it'll be the same consistency.. at least it should. I saw a tutorial of someone depotting a creme blush and it melted BUT after they let it dry it was fine. :)

  • @MrZanderJaymz Only slightly in the bottom but it won't hurt the product :)

  • @LifeYourLifeGorgeous Thank you so much for your reply! I can't believe someone saw this comment! It was from so long ago haha :)

  • @MrZanderJaymz The concealer doesn't sit in a metal pan and it's about as thick as 5 stacked eyeshadows so there is no pan to depot.

  • @MrZanderJaymz If you want to depot your Studio Finish concealer, depot it with alchohol. You can google how to do it.

  • @MrZanderJaymz I wouldn't recommend depotting anything creamy in the first place. They'll dry out.

  • @MrZanderJaymz there's another guru called petrilude and he does the same method Marlena does here, and he demonstrates depotting a cream blush closer to the end of the video, I found it very helpful!

  • @MrZanderJaymz I think it would because the concealer is made of some type of cream and the eyeshadows are hard so I don't personally think it is a good idea to depot a concealer

  • @MrZanderJaymz I just tried doing this with my concealer, but I didn't see a pan come up at all just product. :/

  • Why depot?

  • where can u buy wax paper?

  • @casi198920 uhh...anywhere?

  • @casi198920 at a craft store maybe??

  • @casi198920 grocery store

  • after your depot the eyeshadow whats the best magnet to use to keep them from falling out of your mac pallet?

  • @kenijoluver what is the safest way then mmmhmm thought you didn't know

  • What's the wax paper for?

  • @Darkprincess45000 So that the plastic doesn't melt onto the hot straightener.

  • Thanks!! Can u use this method for NYX eyeshadows?

  • Marlena, I don't know why you call yourself a makeup geek. You are a makeup GENIUS :))

  • oh I didn't realize that the mac pots came with that little product in them... cheaposs

  • Why wold you want to do this?

  • its almost as if mac made it this way purposefully for you to do this. that's what i don't get and it's kinda stupid. ps, there are, like, a hundred videos on youtube exactly like this

  • the heat wont affect the shadow will it?

  • this is my absolute fave way to do it. thanks!!

  • Oh thats how it's done the easy way.

  • you can also just buy refills.. you dont need to depot them

  • @Smartlilwitch except many of the best colors are limited edition and do not come in pro pan form as others have pointed out. also some mac counters are welching on the bac 2 mac program if there are no pans which is very hypocritical of them because the only part that is recycled is the plastic, not the metal...

  • @afboyfw .. well that just sux.. I dont live near a mac store so i dont know everything about it. but i saw refills on the mac website so i tought there would be refills for about everything.. but if they dont recycle the metal parts, you still can cant you.. just press the pigments you have in those pans that are empty.. I quess thats also cheaper then buying the pans everytime..

  • @Smartlilwitch yeah it sux. esp whe ur a professional makeup artist like me and youre in the discount program, they make you pay full price for the limited edition items. i think a lot of mac counters in dept stores do the program also...

  • @afboyfw yeah thats like WHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE THAT PROGRAM. It doesn't matter what you want to buy.. but you have to pay full price.. no you dont if you want normal stuff. then you get a discount.. but when you want special stuff.. noo thats a different story.. I actually dont own mac.. because i think it is way to expencive. I love my sugarpill, GDE and such.. its better quality make up then i ever seen here.. * holland* . and ok sugarpill is expencive to me 2.. but the quality is WOW

  • You can also melt of the name stick on the bag of the pot so you don't have to get the circle stickers and I think it looks better

  • Thanks so much for this vid!!! I know that it's old, but I'm new 2 ur channel. I've wanted 2 know how 2 depot FOREVER!!! Thanks so much again lady!! : )

  • what is depot?

  • @supersparkles07 that thing she is doin!

take the eyeshadow from the "case"!

  • Wooooowwww you are amazing ;D

  • wouldnt you just buy the pan of eyeshadow to add to your palette ?

  • can u do the "back2mac" thing after this????????/

  • @melcymel yes... she said that

  • I prefer to use the candle method, and it only takes 10-15 seconds for the eyeshadow pan to come apart from the plastic.

  • I really don't understand what the point to depotting is? can you give me some info about..

  • @clara9271 you can either put it into a pallete, and if you have 6 of those containers you can get a free lipstick at MAC

  • On the back of mine there isnt any hole there is a number "15" why is that ??

  • omg so dangerous with that knife! could you imagine a young teen trying to do that?!!! could you not use a metal nail file with a strong tip? No offence and im not having a go but just worried for younger girls.

  • @sarahrushton87 there are way worse things on youtube than using a knife.. lol

  • hi marlena. i was wondering if u knew if mac stopped taking depotted pots? ive depotted mac potts before and took them to a mac store and got my free eyeshadow but today i went to a mac counter to get a free lipstick and the employee told me that they couldnt be depotted. im confused lol. hope u can answer

  • does the wax ruin your flat iron??????? pllzzz someone reply

  • @ForeverHeartMe it never did anything to my flatiron. dnt put ur flatiron to full heat when doing this. just in case.

  • @ForeverHeartMe wax paper's melting point is 130 degrees Fahrenheit, make sure your iron isn't set above that.

  • Thanks for this video, it worked great! I do have a tip I can pass on, instead of a flat iron, I used a candle warmer that I bought at Michael's, and it worked beautifully!

  • This was so incredibly easy and useful! I am recently new to mac and didn't realize that you could buy them as refills, so I bought all the separate pots at the Macy's nearest to me. Then I found their online store and realized I would prefer a compact of them and this was by far the easiest way to depot them. Thanks so much for the advice/video!

  • Thanks for this vid. It was really helpful and everything you said worked!

  • Thank you so much. I did used aluminium foil as I was fresh out of baking paper worked just as well though.

  • I almost cut my had off like 5 times doing this haha but thanks so much now i can use my containers to get 3 free lipsticks or e/s

  • Thanks so much! This helped me so much!

  • Do you know if you do return 6 eye shadows in europe, will you then get a free thing? (:

  • @BeautyByTine well i am in a boarding school in austria and asked the people in the mac store but they didn't know what i was talking about ;))

  • @yonibony1 haah, i was asking in a store in Denmark, and she said maybe in Paris xD

  • a nail file would be a LOT safer than a damn steak knife, lol

  • @MZJI99LY2U LMAO

  • I love, love, love Back to MAC! :) I hope you'll enter my Glitter Gal, Arbonne and Mariah's Sassy Fashions giveaways.

  • My flat iron takes about 15-30 seconds to make an indent. My iron was also about $15-$20.

  • some people want to depot their eyeshadows because they have collected a bunch throughout the years, people who do not have palettes or didn't know about them until recently and don't buy refills. those said people have realized that it is possible to take them out of the containers and put them into palettes and use the empty containers for back to MAC. at least that's my situation. thanks for the video very helpful and easy :)

  • If you depot your eyeshadow what is the rules about the Back2Mac program? Do you need the pan with the case to qualify as an item to Back2Mac? How about taking the sticker off the mac case and putting it on your depotted eyeshadow?

  • Could you please recommend some MAC eyeshadows that are similar to Club in that their color payoff may be a bit different than you would have guessed just by looking at it. I'm very interested in the more exotic ones. I also love color and not necessarily just looking for neutrals. Thanks so much! Hope to hear from you.

  • why would you depot a mac eyeshadow?

  • what can you substitute the wax paper with if anything

  • @aksaimtiaz19 aluminum foil (:

  • Comment removed

  • could you use a hair straightener?

  • @hanbanana67 ya a flat iron and a hair straightner are the samething

  • @hanbanana67 a flat iron is a straightener !!! .. ;)

  • @ItsConceHere haha thnx :D

  • It is muchhh faster to use a lighter! However, the flat iron truly is a safer option

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank youuu for posting this!!!! I just depoted 6 eye shadows, now I'm going to back to MAC!

  • can u re-pot them?

  • What if I dont have a flat iron???

  • @kucibaba2 u can use a light and hold the lighter beneath the container thingy

  • @kucibaba2 enkore has a no heat method

  • @TheDivabeth20

  • Hey, I just opened an online store where you can find the 26mm pans, magnets, and other things for pressing pigments, as well as MAC pigment samples. Excellent prices & super fast shipping!! Go to z a y s e y e z . e c r a t e r . c o m

  • The most helpful tutorial I've seen on this! Thank you!

  • Isn't it amazing how tiny and thin the shadow actually is once it's removed? You pay all that money for that sliver of shadow. Ugh... such is life.

  • @Mandy7D7 yeh but they last long...12$ is not that expensive for a good quality eyeshadow, I've seen eyeshadows for 30+ dollars...lol

  • Rules changed at Mac cant depot like this anymore to qualify for Back to Mac!!!

  • This is awesome!!!! Thanks it worked out great :)

  • Great video ((:

  • Use a push pin in the plastic bottom-it will make your life sooo much easier (been there...lol)!

  • is it necessary to have the magnets? will they stay on their own?! thanks

  • nopee. i tried putting in my shadows without magnets, they fell out and if you travel with them they will have a little party in there and they might break from impact. so magnets are like their seat belts of safety

  • they'll stay, but the palettes are magnetic so if you move the palette around crazily, the shadows will stay in place. i don't have magnets under some of mine and they're fine.

  • would the eyeshadow not become damaged lying on the flat iron though?

  • can u use an iron

  • now that my MAC eyeshadow collection went from 0 to 18 in less than 2 months, i'm gonna have to start depotting !

thanks much for these tips :D

  • Great instructions but I wish I had never tried this! Found out you can buy the refils (without the pot) from Pro-store. Check out my video for more info.

  • isnt the pan already magnetized? or do you need to put a maget on it to get it to stay in the palette?

  • i have been trying to find out how to do this! thank you soooo much!=]

  • What's the point of depoting the eyeshadows?

  • Some people find it more convenient rather than digging through tons of shadows, you depot them, add a magnet and pult them in all in a palette.

  • to put in the palette

  • @KattieRawkS007

Many people find it hassle to have so many MAC pots of eyeshadow. Therefore they depot them and put the eyeshadow pans in palettes so you can access all your MAC shadows in one place.

Also, you can recycle your MAC pots (look up the Back to Mac program on their website). When you recycle SIX empty pots, empty lipstick cases, etc., you get a free lipstick.

    I hope that helps!

  • it's easer storage so you can put them in the pallette. It saves room, easer acess because your shaddows are all in one place. It's a personal preference. some people do, some don't. It just depends. =D

  • haha i got that same color today

  • why would you even depot a eyeshadow??

  • to put them in pallettes to keep them organized! :)

  • i like it in the lil' container that its already in lol

  • @alisa01905 i no i dont want it in a pallet

  • @alisa01905 If your eyeshadow is practically gone then if you take it out and collect 6 as she said u get a free eyeshadow er lipgloss

  • @SpLoOsHoE cuz u touch youself

  • to put in a palette

  • Omg this is awesome!! Ive always wondered how to get my eyeshadow out of the pot! This helped so much, now I know! Thank you. :)

  • I'm having a hard time getting the glue off the bottom. Any other tips? Fantastic video. Thank you for your help and awesome videos.

  • worked like a charm!

thanks for the great advice girl:)

  • i dont get it ur like dont touch this part its hot but u touch it so it cant be that hot right??????

    idk please reply

  • @Pokadotz3

she waited a few minutes then picked it up

  • What happens if you still want to keep the label of the eyeshadow name, that is on the main pot. How do you get the label?.x

  • put the main pot on the straighter also and the glue will loosen and then take the knife and peel it off, it comes off a lot faster than depoting the shadow. Watch sayanythingbr00ke's vid.

  • @Aquadisiac17 i think you put just a little bit the actual thing (the thing where the sticker comes) in the straightner and when its kinda hot you take it out. (idk, i saw something like that in another video) :):)

  • good video :D

  • isnt it easier just to get the refill pan?

  • I have another REALLY easy way to depot an eyeshadow...

after you do the first step of taking the shadow out of the overall case, preheat a toaster oven to 350

put the removed eyeshadows onto a foil sheet...

after the toaster oven is preheated turn it off and put the foil sheet in for 5-10 mins

when you take them out, the shadow pans should be at the point where you can easily remove them with a knife =]

  • y dont u just take ur knife dip it in achohol nd stick ur knife in the sides of the eyeshadow nd just remove it. look at s2pandapple's way of doing it maybe it will be more easier. but anyway nice video.

  • why would you just buy a depoted one at the mac store. their cheaper and already depoted.. great vid though!
