  • Thanks now I can write the letters down on my keyboard!

  • thank you

  • Thanks it really helped

  • Thanks for posting this!!!! :)))

  • Yay thanks for the help :)

  • This is really helpful since I probably won't start lessons til summer :)

  • how many keys are on your dey boad?

  • @GuineaKidz On the K2500 in the video? I'm not at home right now, but I'm pretty sure it's the 76 key model. Most keyboards have octave switch buttons though, so you can shift the notes higher or lower (middle C becomes a higher or lower C)

  • how many keys are on a piano ????????????

  • @angelnewfie Depends on the piano :) The biggest ones are 88 keys. Just follow the note pattern and you could figure out the notes for a 1000 key piano, but your ear couldn't hear all those notes ^^

  • the views are OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DyIansMusic They're over 90,000 too biatch.

  • Helped Alot!:D but need a little MORE ' ~ '

  • @BadMan123001 Cool thanks! Check out the rest of the series, maybe what you are looking for is there. Also you can always ask me questions in the comments =)

  • Ok, thanks for your tutorials. Now I need a piano. Damn.

  • Thank you for these tutorials. I have learned so much from these.

  • Haven't checked the video yet. Hope it would be useful to me

  • So simple yet so fuckin' heplful o_0 When you wen't to G i was like "Kay, what the fuck. There are 3 more keys and no more lette- oohh."

  • wooooooo ite helped me a lot thanks mate

  • thank u

  • thanks for the tutorial man ...

  • Thank u that was helpful :)

  • thanks man

  • scott morgan vs piano

  • just bought a keyboard off my friend today, was wondering if keyboards are capable of echos? like when i take my fingers off the keys, is there a way to make the note echo?

  • @ffdp419 That really depends on the keyboard. Usually that would be something in the "effects" section if you have one. It's often called "delay".

  • @M0rganstudios alright thanks

  • @M0rganstudios Or maybe reverb?

  • @ffdp419 Sometimes key boards come with pedals... but then again some dont .. i havent played piano in about 3-4 years but im trying to teach it by using videos and books so i dont have to waste money on expensive lessons haha. i have a piano and a keyboard my keyboard has the three pedals . . . The right pedal i think makes the echo... i forget ;3

  • @MoriosOniiChan Pedals tell the keyboard to keep the notes ringing even after you've let go. Called "sustain". You can buy pedals separately for most MIDI keyboards for pretty cheap.

  • @M0rganstudios Oh well like i said i havent played in years haha

  • 1:48

  • @PokerDotTaz lol fair enough.

  • @M0rganstudios sorri i needed d coz im do and auddition song in that key :P xx

  • 1:48

  • when it says something like "C3", is the number next to the letter the octave? and the letter is the note?

  • @shEtiTzMATT Exactly, though there's some discrepancy on exactly which octave "3" is, but yeah you got the idea. Verbally I usually say "Middle C" or "__ octaves above middle C" for higher octaves. Everyone interprets that the same.

  • @shEtiTzMATT Oh I should call out though in a song book if you see "C7" written over the top of the clef, that has a totally different meaning. There they are specifying a chord which is C-E-G-Bb. You might see C6, Cm7, Cdim7, Calt, Csus4, etc. Those are all chord symbols, not indications of the octave.

  • @M0rganstudios thank you so much, you helped me a lot!!

  • @shEtiTzMATT Np man. If it was the chords you were seeing, just a note that the '7' means the scale degree added to the chord. Normally plain old C is C E G. 7 means add the 7th note of the scale 1=C, 2=D, 3=E, 4=F, 5=G, 6=A, 7=Bb. I won't try to explain why it's Bb here in the comment though ^^.

  • U can't believe how much this helped me, this is eaxactly i was looking for.

  • Nice! BTW – you can learn to play this song in half the time with new gadget that reads MIDI files.

    Google “Gizmag and PianoMaestro”

  • Thanks alot this is the only video that makes sense for me

  • thats not nice.

  • 7 ppl has no fingers.

  • can i ask???

I'm so confuse because when i search for some basic keyboard tutorial.. i find out that the keyboard that they had use has a different keys from each other ..

(sometimes it has lessen keys and sometimes its not)

    why???

and its possible that i can play keyboard us well us piano can do????

(sorry for my question but im really curious)

    help!!

    thankss..thanks ^___^

  • @jhen71yesung Its really just a matter of making the thing cheaper or take up less space. You shouldn't get lost though, its the pattern of black keys that tells you where you are on a piano. I'm really not a great pianist, but I have some specific ideas on how it should be taught. If you practice a lot and do it in a constructive way you could easily surpass me I bet ^^

  • nice, thanks!

  • Thanks for uploading this video coz I couldn't remember the Notes!!

  • Thx Scott, easy to follow along!

  • I love this video, thanks for sharing.

  • wow u guys sure have all day to type comments, what if you have a 61 note keyboard?

  • @candypinkerswirl You can play a lot with 61 keys. It might have an octave shift button as well. If there are some notes that are out of range, just play them in a different octave or leave them out I say.

  • And that was my first piano lesson! Free, from a nice guy who doesn't mind sharing, and on the Internet - this phenomenal tool that changed the story of mankind. Isn't this great? Think about it and think about loving your neighbor and loving your planet. Scott Morgan, you're great, thank you!

  • @TinManSixtySix Np =) The web is pretty amazing that's for sure. Good luck and thanks!

  • @M0rganstudios Hey Scott! From a fellow teacher's standpoint (I'm an EFL - English as a foreign language - teacher), I think your tutorial is just perfect, it's a simple, to-the-point approach, everything's fine, the timing, tone of your voice, camera moves over the keyboard... Done a great job, man! I'm checking your other videos. Cheers! Martin

  • @TinManSixtySix Wow thanks! My lessons are honestly kinda sloppy compared to some of the other professionally done ones, but yeah I try to cut the crap and get to the meat. I'm not a big fan of traditional piano lessons, which is why I started making these.

  • Thanks for an excellent Intro - What keyboard would you recommend I buy? Anything specific, in terms of Keyboard models, no of keys etc, as I am very much interested in learning how to play the Piano.

    Thanks

  • @anilm2010 Hmm you should check out my MIDI tutorial. It's not a video though, just a document on my main website (morganstudios dot c om) It goes over different keyboard types.

  • THANK YOU!

  • This is the only video that actually helped me!

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • Ok, I'm confsed! from the 1st one right at the top is that an A? ;'cause when I count them the C is never where it should be...

  • @horseracing2009 Use the black keys as a reference. Pianos and keyboards can have different numbers of keys, and different notes at the top and bottom. A note below 2 black notes is a C. Yes they repeat A-G up and down the keyboard :)

  • @M0rganstudios Okay thanks so much! oh can I ask another question I have been looking at piano sheets and it says F (which I obviously know is a note) but then it migght say something like Fm could you please explain that? sorry for the questions =)

  • @horseracing2009 Actually, in that case F is a chord :) F major to be specific which is F, A, and C. Fm is F minor which is F, Ab, and, C. You are probably reading a lead sheet which is something I love to see people doing. If you keep following my tutorials, I slowly teach you how to read this style of music.

  • @M0rganstudios Okay thanks so much I'll subscribe :D

  • I know you said this but just so I'm sure it starts right at the top as ABCDEFGA and then it starts again with ABCDEFG? :P good tutorials by the way this one already helped!

  • thank you so much! i am trying to teach myself how to play the piano, and knowing where notes are would be so helpful!! haha XD

  • thx for the tutorial =)

  • thanks so much ! this really helped and you made it easy to understand too! i'm struggling to start learning.. now gonna look at the rest of your stuff

    :D thanks again!

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have started with voice lessons and learning the piano notes, but no one ever told me where the C was or how to locate it. Thank you sooo much! Things can now start to make sense. :)

  • this helped alot:) thanks

  • THANKS MAN!

  • @xlDarkAnglex IM WITH YA!

  • omg watched it and helped alot

  • did not watch vid Yet but need 2 learn notes ............TIP::label keybourd notes works a lot its not like recorder ! cause like theres more then a little bits of notes i play recorder 4 school its not very fun and i think piano and guitar is more funner and beter

  • @xIDarkAngelx I'm glad it help :) Learning by ear is actually a great way to learn a song! I actually hope that my lessons make people better at it.

  • thanks it help me too! :D

  • Is the C at 1:15-16 is C1?

  • You know, I've never gotten real religious about which octave is which....a quick look in Cubase and my Bosendorfer 290 piano library says that is C1...(with middle C being C3)....but on wikipedia it says middle C is C4. And I see other places even call middle C C5(Sonar). So whatever...just agree with whatever system you are working with at the time.

But probably most commonly it's C2, but often called C1 ^^ (like in my piano library)

  • i have a problem right now can you show me hot to play minsan lang kita iibigin that is tagalog song requested to play that song in valentines in school bat i know to play only base guitar

  • hey.. i love the video..

  • You have a very nice voice, and thank your tutorial helped me a lot. :]

  • SO HELPFULL!

    THANKYOU SO MUCH!

  • This is the tutorial that ive been looking for!

    Thanks!

  • great help thanks :)

  • well explained!

  • U should put up tutorials on how to read the sheets cus u explain really good.

  • I agree ^^

  • Thanks for the video!

  • hey thanks for the vid. im gonna write those notes ON the keyboard now. i can´t remember them in my head XD

  • great vid thaniks!!! really helped

  • hello thanks for the video. i want to buy a keyboard that sounds like a piano and nothing like an organ. can u give me some tips please. also i want it to have a headphone socket and price range max 300$ australian. thank you so much :)

  • thanks dude!

    i just know that!

  • TALK LESS!! DO MORE!!

  • u explain soo much better than my friend lol thnx man.

  • this video really helps, thank you !

  • thanks dude im just learning how to play and i got 3 books tht just tell you how to read sheet music not find the notes on the piano this vid helps a lot thx again

  • thank u!

  • thanks for this tutorial, was really helpful!

  • do=c

    re=d

    mi=e

    fa=f

    sol=g

    la=a

    si=b

  • yup, except usually now-a-days b is "ti". In my advanced sight singing course in college, "si" was a sharped 5th so it would be G#. But yeah in the old system and in some places b is "si" (in the key of C Major)

  • What do you mean? If you already know the notes watch something else.

  • He learns it to people with Letters.

Each letter represents one note. Don't know the order, cause i learned notes. But i think it's easy to find on the internet.

  • thx too

  • nice lessons and nice ring lol

  • Haha thanks, yeah that's my wedding ring. I like it ^^

  • That was very useful. Thanx :)

  • this wasnt exactly wat i was looking for but i learned something. thanks

  • omg...use lot don't know your notes...omg haha - here's a hint...the first note is a C...lol

  • wow, I always though piano notes were extremely complicated. You helped me break a wall, of sorts :P Thanks

  • wheres the F

  • i actuallylearned a lot off of this vid! thanx a bunch!

  • OMFG I TOTALLY NEEDED THAT!!! thnx!!!!

  • Oh my god ty ty ty !!!! I needed this 5 star!!! Your awsome!!

  • So let me see if I have this correct.

The middle C is the centermost key carved around the first key in a black pair. The next four white keys are D-G, then you start over with the same pattern until you get to the end of the keyboard. Correct?

  • Well there's A and B that come after the D-G, then you start over. That's how you play the "C Major Scale" C is the white key just before the black pair.

  • Damn, well that's fucking easy.

I was playing pool in my basement the other day and noticed my sister's old keyboard in the corner. Didn't even know we still had it. I took it out of the box, dusted it off (the thing's from 1998), threw in six AAs and voila!!!!

It sucks, though. The instruments sound nothing like they should (the electric guitar sounds like a harmonica) and you can't do multiple instruments. No SD card slot, no USB ports, no digital connections at all. It's a Casio CTK-515.

  • lol, a lot of that stuff didn't exist back then.

  • Thanks a lot

  • thanks i just got a new keyboard and knew nothing... ty

  • what keyboard did you get.= )

  • Thanks for the help!

My cousin tried to teach me the basic notes but he just made it so confusing.

    This really helped.

  • Thank you so much!

    You were really understandable(:

    & alot of help.

I just got a keyboard today so im really

excited about learning how to write music.

  • Thanks so much! I just started playing and i just couldnt find any of the keys! You were alo of help! Thanks :]]

  • that was amazing thats what ive been trying to find out for along time just how to work out where c is. you and what not THANKS AWSOME DUDE:D

  • lol, I think a lot of people just talk too much in their videos. Makes it hard to get to the good stuff.

  • What kind of keyboard do you have sir!

  • Yo it's a 76 key Kurzweil 2500S. I bought it back in like '96 when I didn't even own a PC so it was kinda my "do everything" box. ^^

  • lol u explained that perfects lol i was looking for a video and they all chat a load of crap lol but u explained it perfectly lol :D by the way, whats the 'm" like Cm or somet, and whats "b" like Ab

  • thanks :) I hate it when people talk too much and don't get to the point....

    Cm = C minor

    Ab = A flat

    A# = A sharp

I don't think I mention those until later though.

  • Thanks a lot. I hope this will be helpful for me in my learning. :)

  • wow thanks bunch, I had a friend type out on paper and I was so confused then I found this and went, dang that was so much easier.

  • thnx this waz really easy

  • Thanks, never knew it was that simple lol good vid :)

  • this is GOOD.

  • Thanks!

  • thanks mate

  • hey thanks, buddy! that tutorial was real easy to follow. got a quick Q for you: i'm going out to buy a keyboard this week, i've decided on a 76-key one. but is there a major difference if i get a 61-key keyboard (just wanna know 'cause it costs less)? thanks again.

  • hmm, well mine is 76 keys. For my purposes I wouldn't get any smaller. Sometimes I wish I had 88, but not that often.

Depends I guess on how you plan on using the keyboard. IE, if you get a smaller keyboard and expect to be able to play a concerto piece you will be in trouble ^^

If u are just sequencing notes in you can actually get away with a really tiny keyboard because they can shift octaves, giving u access to the full range of notes. Still I like to not have to do that too much.

  • hey thanks for the quick response, buddy! yeah, i did some research a while back and thought a 76-key would be best. now it's good to hear so from someone who knows. =)

  • your well good i can play keyboard now

  • wow your a really good teacher i can play notes now!!

  • thnx

  • wow thanks. i kinda understand now. youre tutorial are waaaaay simpler than most i find. i know nothing of music notes, never touched an instrument in my life. but i always wanted to try out piano. i appreciated it if you keep up the tutorials

  • thanks morgan

learned alot for my first lesson

    keep it up

  • cool dude but i have a 61 keys on my keyboard so where should i start?

  • You mean for finding middle C? Just pick what looks like the middle. Worked for me when I was 7 years old :) I think I had the same sized piano (little jazz thing). Listen to the note, should sound the same as the one I played in the video.

  • cool keep up the good work rate 5

  • cool

  • Nice work, Scott! This should help any elementary piano enthusiast trying to figure out the notes. I remember I had a tough time with them...
