  • What's the rating on this? R or NC-17?

  • @027Erik It never got a rating. It was never submitted to the MPAA for rating. It probably would have gotten an X rating.

  • I love ''maniac'',for many reasons because it's so raw,it's vintage new york city,at it's finest, and it has that ''fear in the street's,message like the classic ''deathwish'',movie had.The trailers right down to the TV,verson's are just as scary. You can't relate to it,if your not from that era,or if you never lived in a big city.this movie is not for everybody.But,man..it's wild.

  • lol

  • ''FANCY SCHMANCY''

  • lool jemand deutsch

  • R.I.P Classic 42nd Street late 1950s- early 1990s.

  • LULZ!!!! Tom Savini always makes the funniest faces!! Did you see his reaction in Grindhouse whenthat one guy with the ring got killed?! :D

  • i just ordered this from work. i've never seen it so i can't wait til it comes in lol

  • Who felt sick from seeing this movie at first? i did when i was 11 and it disturbed me just like Nightmare (1981) did and some others later on. This is one of Rob Zombie's fave horror films and influenced his House of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects films. For anyone who enjoyed this, i recommend: House on The Edge of the Park, Martyrs, Inside, Nightmare (1981), Cannibal Ferox, Funny Games, Man Bites Dog, Driller Killer etc.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Don't forget A Serbian Film, Last House On Dead End Street, My Sweet Satan, The Manson Family, Salo: 120 Days Of Sodom, I Spit On Your Grave, and of course, The Burning.

  • @grindhousejunky79

Salo made me sick, i saw that back in 99 and threw up. I Spit on Your Grave was disgusting but good, The Burning is awesome and one of my fave slasher films. I'm not touching that Serbian Film trash after all the truly horrific and vile things i've heard about including where a newborn baby gets rape to a skull getting literally fucked, OMG.

  • The Maniac is Gazzo from Rocky & Willi Cicci from the Godfather.

  • and i forget caroline munroe ...yike yummy :)

  • one of top horror movie of all time ..tom savini is the best

  • I never seen this movie growing up it was never on maybe late at night but the only time i remember it on tv was a few times on IFC and that channel does not air it any more.

  • The head exploding scene was so cool if i had saw that as a kid i would have been laughing so much not gross out or scared like the critics.

  • The criticism for this film got incredibly ridiculous. People were calling it tasteless yet they praised Henry portrait of a serial killer. WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY EXPECTING, BAMBI?

  • I saw this at the Prospect theater in The Bronx on a Wednsday which was February 4,1981. Its co-feature was The Octagon. This may have been so very hated by women's groups and movie critics but I only checked it out as a movie.

  • Uhhh... I typed in Kid Cudi's maniac song... I dont like my suggestions...

  • @bemjbful Don't be a pussy that song is dark in nature anyways just like this movie

  • Without this movie, there'd be no House of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects, Hostel 1 & 2, Martyrs, Inside and other modern shockers and this movie predated them. In fact Rob Zombie and Eli Roth are huge fans of this sick shocker.

  • love this movie!! check out The Last Horror Film, if your a joe spinell fan. Great story behind that movie

  • 1) that was Tom Savini in the front seat...

    2) Gene Siskel actually walked out of the THEATER 30 Minutes into the movie :O

  • I love the shotgun/car scene.

  • This movie is garbage.

  • @breezeman199

    You find this film offensive?

  • @Johnlindsey289 It is a terrible movie. At times very boring, often pointless or grossly violent with no real story.

  • this movie makes me wanna shoot a 80's style slasher!!!

  • i have this movie..they way it's shot, the story may seem cheesy but it's intense and freaky..but if you like 80's slashers this is a must see..

  • @ambush77

Sort of the devil's Rejects of it's day don't you think?

  • don't know...joe spinell was probably working on it when he passed.

  • only tom savini with his great special effects could design his head exploding in the car...i remember seeing this in a theatre and they actually stopped the film because patrons were throwing up...

  • One of the best slasher movies from the 80's!!! Grindhouse exlpoitation at it's best!

  • i liked high proof bourbon watching maniac? what you drink..maybe i try. Love how slob looking spinall knocks on Rittery's door and she loves him - as if! Oh, Tom savini head exploding - classic. oh, and that model scene and music!!! And spinell sobbing on the bead - classic!!!The book Stay out of the shower the auther just hated spinall. Called him pathic. The only reason this film had merit is becasue of the photographer. Any why. never sure at cinema just still functioning vhs tape.

  • one of the best horror movies!

  • Was there a sequel? I believe there is and it's half made. By joe spinal. but it could of been a dream i had.

  • @CliveGains80s you mean joe spinell lol

  • @CliveGains80s he was going to make a sequel but he died before he got it going. He died in 89

  • I sorta think Maniac is a self biographical of himself (Joe Spinal).

after watching the Spinal story doc I find many similarities to maniac.

I had no idea who he was too.

Manic 2 would of been best ever. maybe up there with Texas Chainsaw status

Maybe Maniac Cop was made instead?

Was the MANIAC 2 SCRIPT EVER RELEASED to the Public????

  • @devilfan1965 year i was born so it not all bad ;-) hahahaha :-P

  • This is a great, great albeit brutal movie. The shotgun through the windshield scene is classic.

  • i just happen to come across it at CDPlus maybe i should watch it one night

  • :-( U still can't get this in the UK. I've tried but can't find it :-( Boooooo

  • @AngelArtists Try amazon.

  • @AngelArtists get it on amazon thick shit

  • @AngelArtists still banned

  • So now this one's available on Blu ray.

    Cool.

I wanna watch Vigilante as well.

    Mother !!!!

  • They made horror movies a lot scarier back then. Holy shit. O.O

  • Fuck !! I just love the old music they add to it !! Dewww eww baa ahh xD

  • funny how back in the 80's. all the psychos were vietnam vets

  • I have a question for everyone. Does anyone know, if it's legal to use trailer footage and small clips (published online for download), to make a movie review?? I'm thinking of doing loads of movie reviews this halloween, and I just wanted to know if I can safely place some trailers in my videos :)

  • @mfnstudioschannel

Probably just have to credit the studio, I would guess.

Are your reviews going to be horror reviews? Just curious.

  • @chriskarmiol Yes, since it's Halloween, I will do a couple of horror movie reviews :)

  • It scared the living shit out of me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not recommend this truly terrifying movie to anyone living in New York!

  • you know you watch to many horror films when the girl at 0.19 looks identical to the girl gettin ready to shower from friday the 13th part 3, and you actually notice. its official - i gota get out more

  • MANIAC HE WILL TEAR THE LIFE OUT OF YOU

  • I'm going slightly mad

  • @82hotspace are you the incredible hulk, lol

  • Tom Savini getting his face blown off is probably one of the most infamous scenes in horror movie history, but the victims' revenge scene in the end was downright CREEPY and demonic. Classic scene !

  • Damn Tom Savini got fucked up.

  • willie cicci

  • MY FAV ALLLTIME

  • Boring its not as good as it should of been id say it lookd good on paper it feklt more like a 70's flick id say it was made in 78 and relased in 1980 lol i havet the dvd also not good but better then all the Saws and Final Destations

  • JOE SPINELL......RIP BROTHER.

  • To those who were born in 1980-or later-TAKE NOTE!

  • I gave you a 5 star because it was very Scary. Thanks! ~Andree'

  • @Dreelamb

When that guy jumped on the hood, why didn't he just floor it?

  • @tastybrownies Good Point that's what I would have done ha ha.

  • THIS LOOKS LIKE A "G" ASS MOVIE

  • the trailer gives too much away ... splendid 70s movie

  • FANCY SMANCY

  • BUT THEY GOTTA STOP....they must be stopped it's enough to drive one CRAZEEEEE

Sad not enough people know this movie Joe fucking rules in it....And this was pre the masterpiece HENRY by at least 6 yrs...Fancy Smancy

  • This looks very good. One of the best trailers I've seen on youtube. I think I'll watch it right now. 3:46 am.

  • This looks very good. One of the best trailers I've seen on youtube. I think I'll watch it right now. 3:46 am

  • JOE SPINELL MANIAC R.I.P.

  • I wish I knew who did the voice over for this preview. He used to do many back in the day.

I saw "Maniac" a long, long time ago. Don't remember much about it except Joe Spinnell smacking a girl's ass & Tom Savini getting his head blown off.

  • is this a good film ??

  • One of the best films ever. lol

  • This film looks so strange. I might watch it though.

  • Maniac is totally different from all the other slashers.

The interior and the sick colours of his appartment , his absolutely unfashionable "elvis"-style (even in the 80's), a really sad but great soundtrack, an uncormfortable but undeniable feeling of him as a victim of his mother while watching him slaughtering others like flies...

  • Frank is NOT a "hero" like Lector,Jigsaw and all the other glorifications of violence - he is ist totally different from what he his doing: a weak, poor creature - vulnerable, maybe much more than his victims.

If you are not blunted by LOTR,Matrix and all the other blockbuster-bullshit (suspense is needed? okay!-slow motion/CGI and/or louder music..) you should easily see the difference.

Like "Henry" one of the best movies about this issue

  • And lets not forget Tom Savini's DERANGED (74)

  • @clintbronson5 Holy crap he did Deranged? I never knew that.

  • bad ass flick had me shittin my pants as a kid.

  • Tom Savini claims to regret working on this movie

  • Tom Savini is God †

  • I know!!! 100%. I'm a horror fan 24/7. I like the old stuff though. Hate Eli Roth and them all just the oldies for me

  • such a B movie

  • Did Tom Savini just get shot?

  • yeah

  • grindhouse style trailer

  • This is one of my fave early 80s slasher films. A classic video nasty !

  • Смотрел этот фильм давно.

    Будни маньяка.

  • ok, that's cool, yeah I have a few films with the blue underground label; Deep Red, Zombi, and Opera just to name a few

  • To be honest, I didn't like this film as much as I thought. It was kind of boring and took forever to finish.

  • Even in the disturbing gory scenes you thought it was boring? It didn't drag that long in between those scenes.

  • It took a few more times of watching it to enjoy. Its definatly top 10.

  • I think this movie looks okay, if not a bit cheesy. I here it was given an "X" rating at the time, but you can buy it on the Blue Underground label unrated. Also, was that Tom Savini who got shot in the head through the dashboard? I know he did the gore effects.

  • yeah thats Tom Savini

  • This movie looks really creepy but Trust me you should see The shining(1980) Suspiria(1980) Tenebre/Tenebrae(1982) And Pieces(1982) Before you see this!!

  • awesome!

  • That beginning clip is the best scene in the the movie.

I love this film! Savini's effects are top of the line (especially in 1980) and Spinell is great in this film!

  • This movie is awsome. Caroline Munro is stunning and the scene before the end...with the manequinnes is classic terror.

  • lol

  • My favorite slasher-flick of all time

  • I realize now that 80's trailers don't seem to have a rhymn or a reason just a bunch of clips mixed together with that voice guy. But as I've said before I like the sort of simplicty these movies have...and the fact that a woman screams like three times and yet her 'boyfriend' still doesn't move the car! Horror movie people are so dumb sometimes...

  • always wanted that song showdown. cant find it though. sounds like kid creole and the coconuts

  • It's "Goin' to a Showdown" by Don Armando and the 2nd Avenue Rumba Band.

  • Its weird, the credits say it Adriana Kaegi, and Showdown. But you seem pretty confident. thanks though

  • I did some more research. your right!

  • Tom Savini FUCKING ROCK with special makeup effects where can I find Maniac 2: Mr. Robbie

  • There's only one Mr. Robbie scene filmed before Spinnell passed away. It's on the Elite Entertainment version as an extra.

  • My number one favorite horror movie. And it's sad Spinnell passed away (RIP) before the sequel got made.

  • Seems cool, Tom Savini rules.

  • wth is wrong with youtube... I post a preview trailer for El Topo & Holy Mountain and I get a message that I don't own them and they remove it, but you have had this preview up for months, Do you own the rights to this movie? I guess I should have posted the video as private, like your profile says for the 'tons' of good stuff.

  • Man, one hell of a movie. I wish I could own it on DVD, unfortunetly, I can't :(

  • one of my favorite films...anyone know where I can find the trailer to Maniac 2: Mr. Robbie? I tried looking around on youtube but haven't found it.

  • Hi.I don't think you'll find this on youtube. If you really want to see it,the trailer for maniac 2 is included in the bonus section of the french dvd edition.there's actually a whole scene included. I hope this will answer your question.

  • Thanks, yeah I know it is on the Elite DVD but they are all out of print. The only one you can find is the Anchor Bay release and they don't include the trailer, only a few scenes. If anyone has the Elite release of "Maniac" please post the Maniac 2 trailer on here!

  • the anchor bay release is descent at best. It's the first edition i bought before they released the french

edition.they added a whole bunch of stuff and they kept the amazing documentary " the joe spinell story"

from the anchor bay dvd only adding french subtitles.

I wish you could get your hands on the french dvd but it's getting out print too...

  • They isn't an Anchor Bay version anymore. The version I have, Blue Underground, is the only version available I believe.

  • This film is the granddaddy of all gore films. Joe Spinelli is the best villian actor around.
