hey I put the studio version up again for those that wanna listen to it if " smashing pumpkins age of innocence studio version (emi can lick my balls edit)"
@ap23964 yeah, it does seem to be a ittle sped up doesn't it =\
Also, at 2:48, the heavy distorion as heard on the album could have been added (it's a personal favorite part of the song for me), and would have sounded pretty cool live.
@jessekwoozy He was clean at this point, that's why they let him back into the band, so he probably wasn't on drugs in this video. It's just fast because musicians tend to rush when they perform live. That's just how it is.
You know, I do prefer the album version, but the burst of energy when James' guitar kicks in on the second verse gets me every time. This song easily ranks in my top 10 by Billy and co.

Four months have passed and guess what? I still think that Iron Maiden is a totally better band, and that Bruce Dickinson can beat Billy Corgan's over rated ass.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Smashing Pumpkins totally ripped off the title of this song from Iron Maiden. Not too mention that the Iron Maiden song is way better then the cheesy, 14 year old girl sentiments that pretentious douche nozzle Billy Corgan whines about.
MAIDEN RULEZ!
Bruce Dickinson can kick Billy Corgan's ass!
Plus, does Smashing Pumpkin have it's own tour plane? I don't think so! Can Billy Corgan fly a tour jet?

The only reason why people pay any attention to billy corgan still, is because he is part of a elaborate marketing campaign orchestrated by profit driven record companies. Talent is secondary, to profit potential. These campaigns are dependent on ignorance, and people's lack of interest in music.
The attention surrounding him can be equated to the kind of attention Big Macs receive. Billy Corgan, thinks though this is because of his personality and talent. Chump. Well rich chump.
You mean the type of Big Mac that might fit inside of your iron maiden lunch box? Admittedly, it can be fun to just make stuff up for no reason, but your troll skills are severely lacking. I mean, you have the chauvenist angle down but you didn't even type anything in all caps here. Props for ignoring the fact that you got PWNED on your first point. Keep on fighting the good fight there junior.
It sounds like you are really trying to insult me. I guess I would be, if I knew what troll skills were. I'll just go ahead and assume that this is some Dungeons and Dragons jargon, that Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts throw around. Why I assumed Dungeons and Dragons? Well your defensive appreciation of Smashing Pumpkins, coupled with your adolescent attempts at invoking humiliation, force me to assume that you are interested in activities which allow you to suspend yourself from reality.
You aren't allowed to have a persecution complex dude. I mean look at you, slyly pleading ignorance on the "troll" front with references to Dungeons and Dragons (an ironic tactic for a metal guy, no?), then galliantly tossing off words like "coupled" and "invoking" as if I were trying to "insult" you rather just offer up statements of fact. It shows that you have a lack of ability to reason. If you were honest, you would necessarily have to admit that iron maiden ripped of the pumpkins title.
By the by, I personally love iron maiden, and do not beleive they ripped off the title from the pumpkins. But the fact that you posted "Smashing Pumpkins totally ripped off the title of this song from Iron Maiden" was one of your opening idiotic statements that was subsequently proven false, reveals that in order to prove you have any honesty or integrity, you would have to admit the reverse.
i was asimple person before i have know the smahing pumpkins just when i knew i m sad all the time and crying they touch my heart and the things inside me and now i trying to forget therm
count me in as a melissa fan. And cool version, I just like the studio one better. The distortion never came in during the "cause for the moment we are free" part in this one, one of my favorite parts of the song....
i prefer melissa too, she wasn't exactly a new member but i think d'arcy was too basic. But my fave line up so far is the new band Jeff is a legend on guitar :D
I love it how they speed up the songs, no band on earth can bring the same energy and quality to the public at the same time, some arousing shit if you ask me
So your saying the studio version sounds better than the live version? Wow what a revelation! Of course studio sounds better everythings polished up and his voice isn't going to be strained from singing/screaming night after night.
this song rocks so hard. perfect ending to their best album (imo) i like the speedier live version. needs more cowbell though. or maybe a rim shot. seriously. you know what i'm talking about. how it is on the album.
What a crappy performance, way too fast, sung horribly. This is a beautiful song, but my god they butchered it, and that on such a great show, if you look at the other vids from the budokan.
The pumpkins are one of my all-timme favorites, but it always bugs me how much faster they play a lot of their songs live. case in point: bullet, age of innocence, everlasting gaze...the list could go on forever. It makes a lot of the songs just sound out of control. that's just me though. I'll always love 'em.
im just saying i really prefer the studio version over this one, i dont think this song worked really well live, but thats just me opinion, its not his voice its just the way he sings it live, and i think there are some really important elementes missing, but nevermind
