For future reference, if you have trouble with Norman anymore, just catch a Sableye in Granite Cave. Slaking can''t do anything against it because Sableye is part ghost.

If you have the luck (or you're not playing a Nuzlocke), it's a great option, but it's not something you can necessarily count on.

If you play in Nuzlocke-mode: you catch a pokemon in route 1 and it dies (so you release it) and you go back to route 1, can you catch the first you see then? (so like catch 2 pokemon in the same area when the 1st one is dead)

~Had Vampiress (my Crobat [Golbat at the time]) use Confuse Ray

~Had Syri (my Mightyena) use Sand Attack until he could barely move

~Had Syri wittle his health down using Rock Smash (super-effective on him)
