@MrLaxdude89 It was mentioned, I beleve, in the original game manual for Half-Life: Blue Shift, and it was mentioned by the developers to be an easter egg.

I believe the quote was something along the lines of "Remember ot buy flowers for Lauren." or something. Either way, the fact remains that Chell didn't exist when Blue Shift was made, Portal was not concieved, and the developers made that as an easter egg, more than anything.

@AjaxStudios of course it wasn't chell, this game was made in 2001, and i don't remember when portal was made, sometime after episode 1 i believe. and half life 3 has been confirmed. Hope Gordon Gets that beer :)

@opt16 Actually, Doom 1 did have a story. It wasn't told in-game as much as id Software wanted it to be, but there was a story. It was written in the manual for the game. Same with Doom 2. The story was that your marine was sent to Phobos Moon because he punched his commanding officer in the face when he was ordered to kill innocents. They sent him on an outdoor patrol when hell invades because of UAC's experiments, which is why he's the only one left. Look it up. ;)

@EllisEndye Actually, the creators of Half Life have received numerous movie offers from Hollywood. But Valve thought that their scripts/ideas were crap and refused all of them. Valve says that if there was ever going to be a movie it will be made by them and no one else. The whole TF2's 'Meet the Team' shorts are suppose to be practice or something. Idk i read it somewhere

But i agree. Out of all the movies based on video games i think Half Life would make an excellent series (if done RIGHT)

@sanjichaz It was actually in the game to start with, and it is (in reality) one developers' girlfriend. In the game universe, it's theorized that it is Barney's girlfriend (she presumably did not make it out of Black Mesa alive).

@DeadThouusand Doom had the same story as Doom 3 (Scientists trying teleportation, and Hell invades), and Half-Life 1 took Doom's story, added a lot to it, and took out the "Demons from Hell" aspect in exchange for an "Aliens from Xen" aspect. Doom 3 then took Half-Life's refinement of the story and reused a bit of it's origins.

Halo took the zombies, changed the shape of the parasite, the name, where they attached, and gave them guns. The rest is the Half-Life zombies. No refinement.

@han878 Because the main character in Half-Life Blue Shift is the same Barney Calhoun from Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2 Episode 1...so all lines spoken by the main character in the game were crafted using HL2 audio files.

@han878 Because, as revealed in HL2, Barney can speak. In the game, he doesn't. I used lines of dialogue that were generic enough that he could have uttered during the Black Mesa incident. Also, having a script, I had to find lines that fit well with what story I was telling. There's no time paradox, just a dude saying similar things at different tragedies in his life.

@BoxGuy12, Opposing Force you play as a member of the HECU (Hazardous Environment Combat Unit), one of the soldiers sent in to "clean up" the facility. You never recieve those orders, though, as you get shot down before they are given, and you then have to just survive.

In opposing force you play as a military corp, so your enemys with gordon because the military are sent in to KILL EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE cascade. In blue shift you play as barney the security guard.

Blue Shift came out on CD with a bonus feature that upgraded all of the skins on the guns, aliens, and such. If you purchased the game on Steam, however, like I did, you don't get the new skins. The skins don't change the gameplay (i.e. the guns still do the same damage) but they look freakin' awesome.
