  • John... is that you ?

  • Dude if your "seminole224" as in you went to FSU then that's what's up. If not, you're still really good and I gotta know how you learned.

  • Hey brah, you post original stuff somewhere?

  • what happens at 0:13? does he hammer the B-10th fret with his pinky and put his index figer at E-8th fret and slide it at a point just to give the taste of "its being slided" ?

  • do a lesson on thi s one bro and break down those chords for me

  • i swear you can play anything by john mayer.

  • that sounds amazing man! Love the telecaster!! How does the sound compare to a strats?

  • @blok31092 the tele is twangier, and has a more noticeable treble, the strat is known for its mids. They sound very different, especially when its a clean sound

  • can you make tabs for this? that would be awesome. great vid btw

  • Good Job at playing your own songs and trying to impress everyone...Mayer

  • Is that a real butcher cover in the background?

    Nice playing by the way!

  • john mayer kak bukut????

  • Is this an original 'nocaster' because if so it looks like its in great shape.

  • Ahah a beatles fan !

  • Hey buddy, your vids came up as recommended on my channel. I just wanted to let you know I really enjoy your playing. Keep up the good work!

  • @SurfGreenSt amai bodo d tok dik endak mndak ya main ka???? pui!! john mayer d kenak bulak !!

  • @junk1992ful I am sorry, I have no clue what you said. Sorry. I speak Dutch, German and English.

  • Why are you so amazing.

  • Nunca consegui fazer essa batida

  • @cristiano4music haha .. aight .. am gonna practice that xD .. thanks mate :)

  • can any1 tell me wat the slapping the guitar strings called? plzz

  • @rieatsu81294 a form of palm muting your strings. haha idk. palm slap? I honestly don't know and i've been doing it for 2 years haha.

  • @rieatsu81294 thumb slap

  • ur slap is wrong.

  • @shawnyboy124 you're face is wrong.

  • @ArgenMercy but really. look at the way john plays it. im not saying its not good.

  • i have a question about your fingertechnique, do you only use your index fixer and your thumb while picking? thanks! i adore your work btw, beautifull tone!

  • @noaOFC It doesn't matter how he plays it.. find your own style, it's easier sometimes :)

  • @AliasLykken iknow right, but sometimes its healthy to learn new techniques, but your absolutely right!

  • @noaOFC Well, I use the 'picking' technique in "stop this train" for this song :)

  • @noaOFC Well, I use the same technique from "stop this train" in this song. But it looks like he's only using his thumb and index finger.

  • this is amazing:)

  • I'm so tired of hearing how tabs are so evil. It really depends on what type of learner you are. I prefer a combination of tabs for reference, and a video lesson for technique, fingering, and timing. If you don't need tabs, that's great but please feel free to keep it to yourself and let others find their own path. Thanks for the video dude, it sounds great

  • you are tuned down half a step correct?

  • Dude, with respect...

Stop being so mind-bendingly good, making the rest of us look bad.

  • I can't seem to get the thumb slap down any suggestions?beautiful job btw!

  • THIS is going to be my ringtone for good. no more changing ringtones after this.

  • beautiful fender dude

  • The 8 ppl tht disliked this song have no purpose in life....enough said

  • Are you plucking strings and thumb tapping at the same time?

  • @QuantumSchizophrenia That's what I do when I play the song, and I'm quite sure that both JM and Seminole224 does that too :-)

  • @QuantumSchizophrenia called fingerstyle :D

  • dude how can u afford all these guitars?

  • i think john goes on f sharp, not to g

  • Hey; what are ideal amp settings for this song?

I got the tiniest amount of chorus and thats the closest i can get it.

  • 7 people wanted tabs, or expected a lesson. d-bags.

  • Stop complaining people, this is the best thing you can do if you want to learn it: watch his hands. The tough thing in the song is the right hand pattern, once you get that it'll be a piece of cake. Just practice and it will come.

  • THIS ISNT A LESSON JERK.

  • Oh Dear John Mayer, SHOW US YOUR FACE!

  • Is this standard tuning?

  • @parker9864 a half step down from standard tuning;)

  • @joakim456 I think he's playing it from standard tuning. The original recording by John Mayer was played half step down

  • Genius bro... Shit was beautiful and you got it down perfect

  • Expected lesson. Lesson never began. Left disappointed.

  • dude man i have it down, but i cant do the slapping part! its too damn hard! any suggestions?

  • @jedster5 he informs you on his page that "Lots of people ask me why I call my videos lessons, and my reasoning is that I believe that the best way to learn is by watching people play songs over and over until you SEE and HEAR the notes. This method is much more beneficial in the long run compared to tabs."

  • how is this a lesson? lessons involve teaching lol. this is a demonstration

  • Oh damn, i love playing my solo with this background music :D

  • best cover i have seen of a song in a long time... could be john mayer for all we know

  • Tele love <3

  • thats weird. your playing it in a different key.

  • @mcintyre12345678910 he forgot to tune half step down

  • @A7X514 I could not figure out what that last chord was to save my life. So I was looking all over the place to find out how other people fingered it. Now I know that it's Db/ F, and I also know why everyone is starting on D instead of C#. Woops.

  • Nice tone there mate !

  • Beautiful Nocaster Tele man. Great cover too, even if it wasn't a lesson.

  • was that a lesson asshole?

  • Love the Beatles album cover in the back...meat ha ha ha ha

  • Does it bother anyone else that no one on youtube plays it half step down like it is on the record? Makes my life difficult...

  • I have than Telecaster :D

  • Whoa! Is that a nocaster?

  • Hard to get the 3rd string while plucking :/

  • U only use the index and thumb?

  • @ArnaudFTW Thats JM style

  • Slow Motion please

  • The only thing I would say - and it´s not a criticism - just what my teacher showed me, is that when you slap with the thumb, it´s best to leave the thumb on the string. This gives a more percussive sound and stability to the hand, which in turn can give an even better tone. Thanks for posting!

  • @Geetar2112 Well it's tough because you have to slap and pluck with your finger at the same time. So slapping means you are also coming down with a finger on the string...it's easy to do them separately, but together it's a different story.

  • Very true mate - it took me ages but it´s worth the hard work:) Once you get the habbit of slapping and flicking at the same time everything else gets easier. I was watching your vid again for the middle section and I really like the way you play it!

  • Depends on your point of view troygstott, there are plenty of vids teaching this slowly and breaking it down. I found this one helpful as it´s nice to watch the whole performance and see how the pick and flick technique works with the little melody lines thrown in. Good job by the way! Nice guitar, is it a 1952 reissue?

  • Dude can you send me a page showing the chords because im not so good at learning by ear with this song.

    Thanks

  • Dude, sweet Tele! What's the model?

  • @dbf678 It's a '52 Reissue.

  • @dbf678 Actually scratch that. On closer look it's a '51 Nocaster NOS reissue.

  • @Guy9998 you were right the first time. i have it now.

  • cover win... lesson fail

  • the way you hold your hand is soo cool!!

and btw try a Bm chord in the chorus!

  • the way you hold your hand is soo cool!!

  • i got everything else but how do you play the outro?

  • i love your Tele :D

  • How do you get that tone?

  • Music is about listening

  • what are the chords?

  • where did you get the tabs ? :]

  • i can play this song.. but he just makes my version sound not so good.. i mean i dont know some parts of the song.. and he does and now i need to learn more but i dont have the time =[ geez.. .. ok let me try some more..

  • is this a 52' tele ?

  • OH YEA? well i bet you can't shake your belly like i do! HA!

    T_T

  • that's not a lesson..... change the name to Cover..

  • is he only using his index and thumb?

  • @idontcare146 I think so. Thats how i play it. I just use the other fingers for an extra slap noise. however the thumb makes most of the slap noise.

  • @idontcare146 no, he's also using his middle finger.

  • is this song suits for the beginners?

  • @AyuniShaari Not at all. The chords are complicated for a beginner. The fingerpicking is complicated for an intermediate player already. I suggest you start with a simpler song. I suggest Daughters by John Mayer.

  • Hey, I got a little bit of trouble with the picking. Can someone help me out?

  • @MalfoysMuppetMates try checking knowa626's tutorial. He teaches Stop This Train also. But it's essentially the same pattern. ... and if you listen closely, it's essentially the same as Who Says also.

  • @flammingcarrot Ah right. Thanks for that mate :)

  • Thanks! Great help!

  • your good thanks

  • wow.....this is awesome dude

  • what kind of guitar are you using?

  • @0sunrise2sundown0 Seems to be a Fender Telecaster.

  • it is a performance, but it is for you to have and idea , like , 'how it is?'

  • what the hell whats with all these bad ass guitars, fender tele, that sttrat with reversed neck that mayer has, that other strat the gibson, the martin'S, if i wouldnt know better id ask if youre john mayer jsut wasting time doing covers of your own songs with your great guitars

  • it's beautiful man just not that accurate as the song go

  • He's trying to make you learn to play by ear.. which is better for you.

  • @hankammer23259 i agree that! it's so much better than some lessons which talk too much but teach less..

  • @hankammer23259 well, so you why don't check out the mayer's version???

It's hard by ear because this particular song has a different picking technique

  • @Jejeco

He's showing you the picking technique in the video.. lol

Just asking for tabs all the time will get you nowhere. You will never progress as a musician.

  • @hankammer23259 couldn't agree more

  • @hankammer23259 not always man, being able to read musical notation is just as important. While i do agree that it is important to be able to learn tunes by ear, i think that it is silly to say one thing is "better" then the other.

  • @TheTerrificTurtle

Reading tabs is completely different from reading musical notation and sheet music. Nobody here is asking for sheet music, they're asking for him to serve the song on a platter for them. That is not how you becoming a better player by using tabs.

  • @hankammer23259 true bro.

  • nice tele

  • Lesson? It's just a performance!

  • @troygstott I know!...

  • @troygstott use your brain dumbshit

  • @troygstott learn by ear!

  • listening to this and tyrying to play the notes you hear is much more intelligent than just looking the tabs up...

  • @troygstott

Hes teaching you how it's done... BITCH!

  • why do people never explain how to do the picking/flicking pattern!?!?!? i so badly wanna learn it but no one makes any tutorials and the few that are around on youtube are so vague that i still cant grasp the concept! DAMMIT

  • @spagbog1q2w check out jon maclennan's who says lesson if you want the pattern for this.

dunno if its actually THE right pattern, but it will get you a long way.

for the technique, its really just slapping your thumb and flicking with your index finger to get the notes ringing out.

dont think videos will make this easier to understand.

  • I've been wanting to learn this song on acoustic but i can't get the picking pattern down. John (and those who do freakin' good covers such as this) do the slap thing so awesome.. :( it will be a while.

  • ive got it down to where i can play along with the vid:]

    nice job

now time to take it to band practice lol

  • would it be possible to get your vids in 720p it would be much appreciated

  • ah thanks dude. My playing-by-ear skills thus far is limited to regular voicing of major and minor barre chords and 7ths.

  • @seafoamgreen3 *are limited to

  • @seafoamgreen3 *are limited to

  • @seafoamgreen3 *are limited to

  • Damn i could play the melody but i can't do the string slapping wtfff Same shit with Neon, I could play the melody mad well but when it comes to incorporating the slaps i can't do it -_-

  • @elop621 you can see both his hands, what more do you want? with a little pause/rewind/repeat you can learn the entire song from this vid

  • Can you make a real tutorial for this?

    Oratleast post the chords/tabs?

  • great playing, you think you could pm me the chord(s) for that outro..I can't figure them out for some reason even from the vid... greatly appreciate it!

  • I see you lift your thumb off when adding that note on the high E string during that Bminor chord. I've been wondering how people add that note with their pinky while their thumb is still fretting the low E... Impossible for me to do. But now that I've seen that it sounds good that way I'll play it like that from now on!

  • why does this say lesson? I'm guessing just to get more views

  • where did you get your tabs? I can't find any accurate tabs on the internet mostly ive been playing by ear but i can't get hear all the chords. Thanks great cover/lesson though :)

  • thanks! useful for practicing the solo

  • nicely done. keep at it ive done some jm covers as well check them out tell me what you think

  • Do you work in a guitar shop? If not; what do you do for a living, cause I gotta get me some of those guitars as well!

  • @jaikook he has a huge mixing table behind him... producer?

  • I freaking love this song!!

  • you make me want to play guitar...you make it seem so easy!
