So law enforcement raids this 80 year old man's home. The door was busted open with the butt of a rifle. Gramps was shot in the leg, then Tazered to restrain him. He was injected with a mix of Thorazine and Klonpin that would have been enough to tranquilize an elephant. He was read his Miranda Rights from the bedside of his hospital room recovering from the gunshot wound.
There was a case in which an 80 year old grandfather innocently posted a photo of his five year old grand daughter on Facebook. Instead of limiting the photo to private he simply assumed that only posting it on his page that was limited to family and friends would be private enough. Within 24 hours, there were more law enforcement officials descending on this poor senior gentleman's home than were used to kill Osama Bin Laden. Local police, state police, the FBI, a SWAT team.
As for the link between pedophiles and porn, its a matter of opinion. If you consider nudity of children to be porn that is not correct. Porn would be sexual activity of children used for adult entertainment. But it's unbelievable now, how grandparents are being arrested on child pornography charges for posting nude photos of their grandchildren on Facebook.
If prostitution was legal in the US, we could regulate the working conditions in terms of health and disease control. The girls use condoms and practice safe sex that work for the larger organizations. But that would mean a loss of business for organized crime so they use scare tactics to block legalization just as the mob was responsible for Prohibition.

I think that prostitution should be legalized in the US. The reason that it remains illegal is that it is an easy way for the local police to make money and to cook their books on crime statistics. For all of the outward appearances of sex in the media, America is an extremely sexually repressive society on the whole. The answer for sex for Americans is "don't." Our behavior as a culture really has not changed much since the Puritains founded this country. Prostitution is still illegal. We refer to adult entertainment as "porn" with things as tame as Playboy magazine. I have seen paintings at the Musuem of Fine Arts in Boston that kids can openly view that are wilder than Playboy.
What I find is that in countries like Germany, Denmark porn is not as much of a problem as it is here. In Europe, casual sex goes on at a much higher rate per capita than the US. In countries and cultures where open nudity is commonplace the incidence of rape and child abuse are far less common than in the Puritanical United States.
I consider adult entertainment to be a vice. Is it like alcohol or cigarettes or drugs? Gambling? Maybe. Or it could be a whole other type of vice. It is something that is not for children because it involves responsibility, like drinking or drug use. It can be a problem for some people, even me. It shows that the perpetrators of child abuse appeared to also be regular users of pornography. What I noticed was that at least one of the perpetrators was an alcohol abuser. Child abuse was one of the key points of prohibition- that drunken adults abuse children.

The adult entertainment business is a huge, profitable business. The problem of child sex abuse is a huge problem in the US, Canada, Europe, and throughout the world. You can blame porn, you can blame the Catholic Church, you can even blame mothers who abandon children to work and leave kids on latch key. All of it is both valid and invalid.
With wealthy families, they can put kids on trust funds and they can go live an apartment and have their own lives at 18. Even as teens young rich kids are living in the dorms away from parents. It is natural for children to want independence. Poor kids seek other outlets like running away from home. I think anyone can fall victim to temptation if we're not completely self-aware 24/7, which I think is impossible, and the fact that we've surrounded ourselves with so many unhealthy and soul-destroying temptations, well, I think we've doomed ourselves. If I wanted to drive myself insane I doubt it would be very hard, I have many options to get there.

In Germany and Denmark, where prostitution and public nudity are commonplace, there are fewer child abuse incidents. With wealthy families, they can put kids on trust funds and they can go live an apartment and have their own lives at 18. Even as teens young rich kids are living in the dorms away from parents. It is natural for children to want independence. Poor kids seek other outlets like running away from home. By some stats as many as 95% of Catholic priests in Catholic schools have either been convicted or accused of child abuse. I think anyone can fall victim to temptation if we're not completely self-aware 24/7, which I think is impossible, and the fact that we've surrounded ourselves with so many unhealthy and soul-destroying temptations, well, I think we've doomed ourselves. If I wanted to drive myself insane I doubt it would be very hard, I have many options to get there.

@RaikenXion There is a lot out there. But if you check the research most of the child abuse occurs in places like the US that place restrictions on things like prostitution and public nudity. In Germany and Denmark, where prostitution and public nudity are commonplace, there are fewer child abuse incidents. If you tell someone something is a big "no, no" they are more likely to want to break the rules. Its more likely that a prostitute would be killed in places where it's illegal than legal.

Some of you are missing the point. Pornography does not have to lead to violent/criminal behavior in order to be bad for you (and others around you). Any time you remove love from sex you turn sex into something that is both destructive and self-destructive. It's the difference between putting someone ahead of yourself and valuing them as a human being versus seeing them merely as a collection of orifices for your physical gratification.
