Is there a reason that he's sitting in a barn on haystacks and not like... in a recording studio or something? Other than that... great cover of a Buddy Holly classic.

never understood the elvis thing really, he was a singer he didnt write much and paid other people to put his name to his songs. Buddy holly, chuck berry, carl perkins, little richard, jackie wilson, eddie cochrane, beatles, rolling stones, they hsaped the music we have today.

One of the great musical talents of all time, wow. Does justice to Buddy Holly. He's got to be looking at Linda around 1:15 watch his eyes keep going back and smiling.
The tempo picks up toward the end of his performance. Watch his eyes starting at 1:09. I think someone he loves is watching. His eyes keeps going back to her. The way my eyes go back to my love. Can't keep my eyes away. Tell me love is real.
I love that Paul McCartney took it upon himself to make a proper Holly documentary. I'm not peronally a Beatles fan, but I have great respect for what they have done to keep Buddy's legacy alive throughout the years. Thank you, Paul!

While it's an O.K. version, it's such a shame to hear Macca not being able to hit the high notes. For years now he has had to sing quite a few songs in a lower key/register than they were written (even his own).
Still, it's nice to see him paying tribute to the person whose songs he owns!
Just check the 'Back In The U.S.' DVD extras where he is telling (Emmylou Harris, I think) that he used to play 'Here, There and Everywhere' in G, but now does it in E. Also, LISTEN, work the chords out, and you'll see he changes the keys to several songs because his voice (like Jagger's and others') had gotten deeper.
Doesn't change the fact that he's a genius, and a great performer and wonderful musician, but we all age. Don't let blind allegiance deceive you.
Yes, Paul sings it well, tho' his voice isn't Holly's (whose is?) and it lacks the sheer vitality, the fun, the romp, the brio, of Holly's embellishments. Still, I can understand why Paul wanted to re-visit this classic, because IT is perfect. All its elements are clear, economical, balanced. Paul captures the relaxed tempo and rhythm of the original so nicely that it comes to life again, singing its words of love and pleasure without a trace of mania or angst...thanks for the memory!
Well I disagree strongly. Buddy Holly was great but he was no Paul McCartney. Paul's voice is superior. But it's not a contest. And it's not putting Buddy down, because this is Paul fucking McCartney. Few compare to him. In fact I can only think of one. His name was John.
Paul's a creator as is Buddy.... Buddys leap was farther from what was the norm, but Paul is living a much longer life than Buddy, singers with quality voices greater than both of them are fortunately in greater numbers.... but creators are rarer... plus better equiptment and higher quality will always glitter above 50's music but the raw quality and its emotion is hard to match...I am almost 60 and a Beatle fan ... they took the hand off from Buddy, Eddie, Richie, etc.....
@TravelerDiogenes No offense but you must be tone deaf because at no time during this film does Paul's voice go out out of pitch or flat, either the very low or very high parts. Tell me how many singers have that range and his guitar playing is great especially the arpeggio at the end.
and it is true.. the song miss american pie.. its right that day the big bopper richie valens and buddy holly died.. was the day music died. there is still amazing music after them.. they just started it all..
who more fitting to pay such simple, yet profound homage to the great Buddy Holly. This simple acoustic is such a profound personal tribute, from deep inside Sir Paul's heart. It touches you in a whole different way than Buddy's original. Its almost as if he is so graciously just saying thank you, and rest peacefully, your music lives on.

They called it "jangle pop" - featuring chiming 12-string guitars (Rickenbacker 360/12 usually) and typical power pop elements. The Byrds, The Hollies and The Who were all on the bandwagon for a while. The most famous opening chord in rock, from "A Hard Days Night", was on a Rick 12 (as was the fade). Actually, Paul's voice on this sucks vs Buddy, but I will agree that Lennon-McCartney were the tops.
But listen to Buddy on this, and Paul sounds flat in comparison. He is in the wrong key for him. He goes flat on the low notes....
