  • Why can't I get this on i-tunes?!! Looked & looked but can't find THIS version. Would pay dozens for this one song...

  • @RobDodgy ._. just download it by searching google or atube

  • Damn, this sounds so awesome. Haunting. Cornell's voice + 12 string = bliss~

  • What pathetic, soulless people disliked this song? I truly pity the three of you...

  • Seriously Youtube should add "Play Loop" button for this song.

  • The best song by this band. Incredible.

  • @crispycritter223 one of lol

  • You gotta love it when some yahoo comes on here to tell me about Soundgarden.. I've only been listening to them sin 1989!.. lol..

  • Is it coincidence or something else that this song was playing in my car when I saw a dead body in the road?

  • @vikingdude17 thats fucked

  • @TommyChong101 yeah it sure was. But it was pretty fitting too for the circumstances.

  • "And my last ditch, was my last brick... Lent to finish her".. MY God, that line haunts me so.. You can never imagine what it's like to come home to find the one you love the most has taken her own life.. I died that day, too..

  • @roo7227 dude. the song is about a bird that hit his window and it broke its neck and he put it out of its misery with a brick then went to his basement and wrote the song. But really a song means whatever you want it to mean rock on(Y)

  • @TommyChong101 Ahh, that may have been the inspiration, I don't know.. But I do know what "my last ditch was my last brick" means, and it ain't about a bird, trust me.. I know exactly what it means, and trust me, you NEVER want to find that out like I did..

Now, carry on with your music snob existence..

  • @roo7227 im sorry for your loss. i was just saying that chris actually said in an interview it was about the bird hitting his window that inspired him to write a song about the harshness of love but yes ill carry on being a music snob. im going to see soundgarden friday i hope they play this:)

  • Another Soundgarden Masterpiece! These guys are truly amazing songwriters can't wait for the new album!

  • I may have tapped into something here: It happens when the solo starts. They feel bad for the bird because it is a beautiful creature who follows it's own nature to it's own demise. Much like suicide. But that's ok because life is beautiful and to be celebrated. Even if something sad happens. There is joy in sorrow. I felt that in this solo. I don't know why.

  • how can some1 dislike this song .... wtf man ??? seriously guys ??????

  • You know, I kinda wish Chris would have done some more subdued vocals on a few tracks like this.

Now don't get me wrong. i love the super belting he hits on all his records, and am blown away each time I hear it. But there's something really natural when he's just using his baritone, and I think it would be something that added a little more to his vocal foray. Simply amazing.

  • @35TCK I couldn't agree more. His high notes ar amazing, but his singing in his lowest register is just...otherwordly. I absolutely love this version because he just keeps singing in his low range (the album version of this song is amazing too).. This is also the reason I love 4th of july :)

  • @Lawldudz Yeah, his low range is unique. It's very moody, brooding, heavy. It's hard to make the hurt in this song sound authentic, I think Cornell's the only one who can pull that off.

  • This is the "stairway to heaven" of soundgarden

  • saw this live yesturday and i just about cried

  • The Dog Show is a tough road...

  • This is Real Music. Love Soundgarden.

  • Yes, this absolutely a fantastic song. And like a lot of people posting on this video, I was a lone Soundgarden fan in a Lil' Wayne world. They were truly a unique, badass, smart, slightly crazy band and when they finally found their voice, they never had two similar songs. Listening to their later albums is like listening to the best mix tapes your friends ever put together....

  • This version made me feel something inside. Had never heard this version of this song until now. Amazing.

  • god dammit these guys just seem to get better and better the longer you listen to them.... unlike most bands that fade with excessive listening

  • could be just me, but this version has some oriental taste to it, which is really cool actually

  • Actually, this is just Chris Cornell on this version; not Soundgarden

  • Superunknown was my secret growing up. None of my friends could figure out why I loved these guys. They are figuring it out today.

  • This is abnormally badass, but I would have been better if Chris Screamed on the second verse.

  • How can 2 people dislike this? They must be pedos.

  • Comment removed

  • 6 minutes of evidence why I should buy a 12-string

  • Kim Thayil is a great guitarist , but when he had trouble with a new song it was Chris who would school him on it :))

Nice to see them back again.

  • They killed it on Conan.

  • besides kurt kim is a huge inpiration on me guitar wise very zepelin but still his own

  • The real question is.. Why did soundgarden never do an mtv unplugged session? That would of been immense!

  • I wish i could find this version on iTunes. it equals if not is better than the original. dont get me wrong the original is amazing.

  • @vikingdude17

    I agree...better than the original..and I love the original

  • @vikingdude17 You can, this version of "Like Suicide" is on the Songs from the Superunknown EP.

  • @BIackSabbath70 thanks dude! just gotta put some money into my itunes. haha

P.S. 2 people dont know what soundgarden is all about!

  • If we could describe a ear organism this is the song that would describe it.

  • @Boganator4

    It's called an eargasm :)

    This song gives them

  • what an awesome voice...

  • Perfect. Vocals sound fantastic.

  • one of the best acoustic song, does not need Soundgarden mtv unplugged.

  • sounds like they covered an unreleased Zeppelin song, AWESOME

  • @ronthefisherman1 God doesn't anyone buy CD's anymore... if you look in the album booklet it's "lived like a murder", not martyr. It also says it in the tab book for Superunknown and it's what it sounds like when he's singing it.

  • Goddam, this is good!! I love acoustic grunge...

  • HOLY FUCK! This is my absolute favorite Soundgarden song of all-time. How did I not hear this until 2010 for fuck sake!!?!?!?!

  • Chris Cornell is the best man that ever lived..

  • And just to comment on the below apparently it is Martyr i looked it up and for the last 15 years or something i thought it was murder too. Either works lol.

  • I love when I get on soundgardens utubes and they have like 9000 veiws but lady gaga prolly has like 30 mill this worlds coming to an end quick....open your ears ppl like suicide acoustic fuckin amazing

  • a masterpiece

  • @ronthefisherman1

No, I think it's "murder". "Martyr" doesn't really make sense when talking about a bird who crashed into a window.

  • kick ass band glad to here there back to kicking ass

  • O yeah and only 8,000 views - disgraceful.

  • What a beautiful beautiful song its always been one of if not my favourite sound garden song but the accoustic version definately gives it an extra something, thanks for posting!

  • I love this song it puts in calm place.

  • I dont like talk 'bout this ...anyway, I decided 2 share with U, people:

My little bro was listening the Superunknown CD, a cold and dark night in october 5 1999.....That night "He lived like murdered and died just like suicide".

When I hear this song, I know he listened it before he pulled the fucking trigger. I still crying his dead. RIP Carlos. Spirit in the Sky.

  • @BanOxyCred WOW. I AM SO SORRY.

  • @BanOxyCred I'm really sorry to hear that. I friend of mine took his own life around New Year's Eve. Right before he did it, he posted lyrics to Boston's "Hitch A Ride" on his Facebook page in reference to what he was about to do. I love that band, album and song but it will never be the same again for me so I know exactly how you feel. I'm so sorry you, or anybody, has had to go through something like that.

  • Great song tho, among my favorite SG tunes. I do prefer the Superunknown version to this slightly but I love both.

    Happy reunion fans!!

  • Something that has always bugged me, I dunno if anyone noticed, for whatever reason Chris has a very distinct lisp during the first line of the second verse... it is quite obvious in fact.

He obviously does not speak with a lisp, and even appears to correct the lisp at the very end of the said line, exactly at the word "sweet".

But right before the word sweet, he says "taste so sour, had to think of something..." with a purposeful lisp.

Does anyone have any idea why?? Kinda weird, IMO

  • @bobshenix could have been drunk while recording this

  • Comment removed

  • @bobshenix Have no idea i'll hazard a guess and blame alcohol but your guess is as good as mine :-).

  • @bobshenix i tend to sing like that too. it's a different style i think.

  • is it just me, or kim thayil almost criminally underrated?

  • @MrJoeCage

What happened to him? Did he actually play on this track?

  • @MrJoeCage Maybe, but don't think he contributed allot on this one...

  • @MrJoeCage he is betond underrated, there is a place in hell for those who dicredit the man

  • @MrJoeCage I don't disagree -- he is an amazing guitarist. He isn't playing on this track, however; while this is credited here as Soundgarden, it's actually just Chris Cornell.

  • @Talmanes For reals? I think this sounds like 2 guitarists.

  • @laquerhead024 It probably is, but those guitarists are probably Chris Cornell & Chris Cornell. He's credited solo on the original. I'm sure album liner notes specify, and it could very well be Kim Thayil, but I don't think it is.

  • @laquerhead024 it's probably a 12 string

  • The abysmal Black Hole Sun solo doesn't help Thayil's reputation. People really need to hear the original Like Suicide to get the real picture. Unfortunately, he doesn't play on this one (it's just Cornell).

This version is so much sweeter than the original, even sans the sweet guitar solo. I've still got Sounds from the Superunknown buried somewhere -- need to find it so I can rip it again; my old rip is crap.

  • @MrJoeCage That might be a good thing if you think about it.

  • @MrJoeCage This is all Chris here. People underrate his guitar ability as well.

  • @MrJoeCage DUDE, if they werent underrated I would NEVER EVER listen to them lol. I love them JUST the way they are, unique to me and me only :)

  • @Alenthas That's like the most Hipster thing ever, BUT at least you jam to Soundgarden

  • @MrJoeCage Just an FYI, Kim was voted guitarist of the year by Rolling Stone the year Superunkown was released. Kim would be much more renowned if Soundgarden had released a few more albums on the level of Superunkown, Don't get me wrong I love Soundgarden but, Superunknown is defintelt their masterpiece.

  • @MrJoeCage True

  • @MrJoeCage This is only Chris Cornell playing and singing.

  • @Audioslave3 It's still a soundgarden song...

  • Could you imagine a Soundgarden unplugged set?

It would blow Nirvana's, AIC's, and Pearl Jam's right out of the water.

  • Yeah, the thing's on iTunes. I found it in two seconds on my iPhone.

  • Wow. I thought that the studio version of this song was good. Man, this is WAYYY better. Wow. Amazing. Simply amazing.

  • Soundgarden is the greatest band of all time. Absolutely amazing.

  • flawless song

  • genial tema!!

  • this song is about an injured dove that landed in Chris' backyard....he killed her with a brick to put it out of it's misery

  • @funlivelife it was a robin. lol. According to a Chris Cornell interwiew

  • Brilliance abounds in the garden of sound......

  • Fantastic, absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for uploading this version. I've been looking for it for a long time now. :)

  • Great--worth 5 STARS!!

  • great song.. but i believe it is just Chris Cornell, and not Soundgarden.. can be found on the soundtrack to "S.F.W."

  • nvm, i was wrong

  • is very good

  • Good job, Randomn00b2

    All these songs are great

    Especially this one <3

  • B-E-A-UTIFUL.

  • Ya. There's nothing like this song in the world

  • beautifull... that and more
