@wildbill1578 That's right ! SFPD as I long remember never ordered cars with custom trimming and they still don't . The cars that my dad patrolled around in when he was assigned to Southern Station during that time , had a lot of horsepower to them and they were very fast !
This is a "fake" SFPD police car, which the owner is now attempting to portray as a real SFPD cruiser from 1968, and it never was. "Mom and Pop" ordered and bought this 1968 Ford "Custom 500" trim level car with a lot of extra chrome, body side moldings, and a much more economical, but a dog in the performance catagory, 302 2V V8 motor. The SFPD NEVER ordereda ":Custom 500" trim level. They ordered a "Custom" lower trim leel to save money. This guy bought this car from eBay long ago!

Even as a Mopar loyalist, I can appreciate a beautiful restoration like this. Outstanding work.
I always wondered what made the SFPD so random about their lighting set up. Instead of a single- or twin-gumball set up, they seemed to put the lights in weird places (and of course, drill lots of holes!). But I admire that you've done everything so accurately. Cheers!
I believe that this car was restored in Concord, California by professional cop car experts. Where's your great restoration Medic83301, or are you just a big talker?
What happened to mine ? Well , I ran into problems restoring her and it cost too much money as I had projected . So she sits in storage out in the old barn until I have the time and cash to resume it . It was going to be a surprise present for my father , a former officer with the SFPD during that time period .
Just wanted to say I love the car-had a CT '68 Custom state car unmarked with the 428 p code in a 2 door model in high school-thing was fast even with highway gears-then I went to college and my mother sent the car to the junkyard while I was away-been looking for another ever since-can't find 2 dr-thanks for the memories
July, 1969. I remember one cresting a hill running code WHILE I WAS GOING THRU THE INTERSECTION! Emg. Equipment was not to attention getting...but I remember the growler siren and single, tiny red light that didn't flash like it was yesterday (I was in the back of a station wagon)
its like new lol

Don't think so. Red in Ohio is reserved for emergency vehicles only.

In Ohio, only police, fire and volunteer firemen, can have any red lights on their cars.

I agree it looks a bit better with the wig-wags, but i think i would remove them to keep it as original as possible. Great looking car though :)

Do you know what model Cam siren it under the hood?
copper2150 4 years ago
Only know it's a CAM. Unfortunally not the model number.... I'll have to remove it to see it.

SFPD used both Cam and Federal model 28 sirens under the hood back in the 60's and 70's. Much louder than the new Federal Q2. Great looking Ford!
