  • @tlw1950 I have to agree with you. It almost seems as if they're intensionally trying to kill the show. One thing I'm certain of; the day ABC pulls the plug on "General Hospital", CBS won't be very far behind with doing the same to "Y & R".

  • @Ramoneoh Check back in April to see the status for General Hospital survival... Y&R contract runs out in 2014

  • This show is currently a shadow of its former self. The writing sucks.

  • David Hasselhoff was Snapper Foster... Jamie Lynn Bauer was Laurie Brooks

  • John Mc Cormack was Lance Prentess... he is now Eric Forrester on the Bold and Beautiful

  • Does anyone have the footage of Jeanne Cooper's very first scenes and Katherine Chancellor?

  • I think that they should go back to this music for this opening now today

  • @realmac18 Yes!

  • @realmac18

    I Don't think so.

  • i have no idea how people follow a soap that has been on the air for like 40 years. that's insane. . . . .

  • i was never a soap opera watcher,,,but this simple musical score is truly beautiful, and i've always enjoyed hearing it...

  • I followed this soap in the early 1980s. I remember when David Hasselhoff played Snapper!

  • When my niece and my sister were pregnant with my nephews in 2003, there was a faster version of that theme. After they were born, it went back to the slow one again, This proves that babies can hear in the womb, they got irritated when the old one came back on after they were born.

  • I had no idea that this show was so old!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm gonna try to take a stab at the first two characters shown on here was it Trish Stewart as Chris Brooks and William Grey Espy as Snapper Foster and was the last face Tom Hallick as Brad Elliot?(so funny there was another Chris and Brad on years later!)

  • This and the early ' DAYS OF OUR LIVES' had the best music.

  • Who did the art work to this?

    It is awesome.

  • i love young and the restless ive watched it since 1980 im 33 years old now. i try to find the old episodes on line its hard to find they should do a sight just for those old episodes. cbs still or should have them

  • @cocotanya31 Y@R was still rather could before Victor Newman came to town. In fact, I hate how everything centers around him. He's an old fart now. Let's focus on others. The Brooks will always be the heart and soul...even if their scattered out!

  • My mom got me into watching the soap. When I was 15. Now 30year's later still watching. Thanks to technology now. If one is missed can go online and watch.

  • I remember this show's beginning as a young kid...Jill as the maid and her affair with Mr Chancellor...and Mrs Chancellor's attempts at revenge...the character of Snapper...lots of good memories! Always loved the theme too..very classy...

  • how can i find those episodes of jill and her mother

  • @Lakeview312 How come sexy snapper didn't save his his beautiful innocent sister from that wicked old fish Katherine(I'm sorry but the woman already looked godawful old by the time she started(and Jeanne Cooper is a real on the wagon alcoholic) He should've stopped Kathy cold in his tracks. There's plenty ways to stop her own revenge and money nor violence is not always necessary!

  • Amazing has it really been that long ago WOW , I must now be as old as Catherine Chanselor by now LOL.....

  • @LadySierraSays Yeah the woman looked like an old bag already when the show had started...and she was only 45. Some ppl who grew up watching and tuned out for long periods of time was amazed to hear from me she was still alive when I gave tidbits that may have concerned her story!

  • Who hasn't heard of this theme?

  • That sucks! You can't even see their faces

  • This is interesting, because I remembered Nadia's Theme from when my mom used to watch soaps when I was little, back in the late 70's/early 80's. Years later, when I saw the current version of the Y&R opening, I thought they were using a truncated version of the music, but it would seem I'm quite mistaken.

  • Powerful. Hauntingly beautiful. Now THAT'S how the Y & R theme should sound, not like that crap they have now. Blech.

  • I started watching from the first episode in 1973. I was a young stay-at-home mom, and the show was entertaining, gave me something to look forward to every day. Though I have been through a lot in these past 36 years (yikes), I still watch the show faithfully.

  • i love how they have the same music all these years later.

  • @RetroForMe it's the same music...but not quite. It is the same theme song but I can tell it sounded a little different...like there was chimes to this one.

  • The 1972-73 TV season was great for daytime television: "The Young and the Restless", "The Price Is Right", "The $10,000 Pyramid", "The Jokers Wild", and "Gambit" all premiered during that season. Two of them: "The Young and the Restless: and "The Price is Right" are just starting their 38th season on TV.

  • My sisters began watching Y and R from the very first episode on March 26, 1973 - and have been hooked on it ever since-

  • How many episodes have survived?

  • They all exist.

  • I always loved this theme song even though I hated the show. My mother always watched it every midday at 12pm. I always thought Victor and his wife and daughter were interesting characters.

  • one of my babysitters watched this in the 70s...a theme you'll never forget!

  • OMG! I started watching Y&R when I was five years old! That's when there was still half-a-day kindergarden. I didn't know what I was watching, then but I definately do 33 years later! Yay Y&R!

  • this reminds me waighting to watch transformers cartoons my aunts watched this...ooohhhh memories

  • not too bad for its time

  • Wow, this is so great; started watching Y&R in Jan. of 1974 about 9 monts after the orig. episode. Brings back memories.

  • wow, it looks so weird compared to now

  • so cool to see Deidre Hall ;-)

  • Did you know that Y&R was only the second daytine soap opera to be recorded at CBS Television City in Hollywood,CA.

    The Clear Horizon was first.

  • Its so odd, how things have changed.

Im 18 and have been watching it for the past 10 years.

  • wow this looks so different from now. i wasnt born until 1982.i started watching it when i was 4. i have seen it change since then, i like when they have different characters everytime they change the opening themesong

  • If anyone has any video of the Lauralee and Lance Prentiss Y&R years from the '70's please post it. How about some of those swimsuit scenes. Jaime Lyn Bauer & John McCook were my favorite couple.

  • Holy cow! That is just weird.

  • I wish I was around in 1973 to watch Y&R back in the day oh man it would be fun! I think 1973 is when my parents got married so I wasn't born yet when Y&R debut lol!

  • i wasn't born until 1985

  • I was born in the 80s too we are close in age as a matter a fact! Do you know btm85bubs? I didn't see the Kay/Marge storyline posted yet but if you keep checking he might post it. He's got some other old Y&R from the 80s and 90s check it out :)

  • does anyone have episodes with katherine and marge?

  • in recent epoisodes, they have brought the two back in contact. Catherine is now trying to help Marge overcome her alcoholism. interested on seeing where this goes

  • OMG!!!!! OK. now we need a 35th anniversary opening with the current cast, in sketch drawings. old and new!!!!!

  • So you see , today we are August 21st. five months after the so special waited 35th anniversary and nothing has happened concerning a apecial anniversary opening. The production of YR is out of money!

  • wow...talk bout classic...I'm 36 but, i remember seeing late mid-late 70s opening.

Does anyone have any of the first episodes?

or any with Julia (Newman)& Michael (Scott)?

  • There was a video here with the first minutes of the first episode maybe if they didn't take out you could find it if you are lucky. And there was its opening

  • @CadillacL no but if you find any concerning Julia and Michael let me know. I LOVED that story. It was Victor's major one(and god was he a rat!) he wasn't even supposed to last after that story was finished. Talk about drama at it's best and the thrilling climax.

  • @imachildofthe80s8089 I'm sure looking & hope I find some too. That storyline, IMO is still one of the MOST dramatic. Victory was plain EVIL. Michael & Julia's love was incredible. I also love the storyline when Kay faked her death.

  • Thanks very much for posting. It would be great if there was some way of seeing all of the different opening themes used throughout the years, especially the ones during the 70s and early 80s.

  • I know the YTuber tigresse1818 has a lot of old openings. Hope that helps! :)

  • @justlikeitsounds type in Young and Restless intros montage into Youtube. c if that helps u

  • yeah i know these clips came from that 35th anniversary site good idea pete to add them here :)

  • yes, i knew they'd be appreciated.

  • i do apprecaite it you have gone above and beyond the call of duty i thank you!

  • thanks! :)

  • Could you tell me what software you used to get this of the 35th Anniversary Site?

  • Hi. I'll tell you when I've finished doing them, so you can't beat me to it! :)

  • I think I know, but I'll keep it secret with you aussieguy.
