Ali had another fight a couple of days later so he didn't want to get any bruises or cuts or anything from a fight that was less important then his next fight, but that does'nt take anything away from lubbers who took a crazy beating but was to stubborn to go down ghehe respect
@ MiikeyG, you mean a couple of months later The fight after Lubbers was Ali's second bout against Frazier on January 28,1974 for which he had to be in ship shape and bristol hashion. Which he was by the way.
He lived now in a truck here in Swalmen (holland-Limburg), He stayed a few years ago on the ground of my dad's own work!! in our street, He has no money to buy Diesel sow he stay here for a long time!! He is now I think 3 years here in Swalmen!!

To bakmanbak, I don't think Ali actually trained for the Lubbers fight. And it was certainly not because Lubbers "survived" 12 rounds against Ali because he's so good. I'm a Dutch fellow too.
I love the comment Howard Cosell made whilst commentating the Ali Frazier II fight. He was talking about Ali's previous fights, and one of them was against my fellow Dutchman Rudi Lubbers, "you remember him, the little Dutch heavyweight whom Ali never threw a right at." Haha Cosell pwned.
Ali's next two fights were against Frazier and Foreman...people forget that.

It's the first and the only one of Ali's fighting in Indonesia. It's historical boxing fighting and it never been forgotten by Ali's Indonesian fans.

In the Netherlands we stayed up to see this. The first and last dutchman who fought Ali. Rudi didn't have a chance. Was 10 years at the time.
