  • yeah the drums what about the keys, and not to forget jean-luc, he made me pick up the violin in my 20s, i'm still tryen' , but i do shred the guitar kinda like that :-)

  • Alguem pode me responder: por que este show não está disponível em DVD. Os que estão disponíveis para comprar não são shows legais. Acho nós merecemos. Compramos quase todos os discos de Ponty e não temos um vídeo excelente como este.

  • Love this!!! Thanks so much for posting this! Keith Jones mixed and mastered my latest CD FOCUS.

  • Checkout Ponty's 'Cosmic Messenger'. Alan Zavod (and everyone else) are at their best. Zavod is particular amazing on the track 'Fake Paradise'. I still get goosebumps listening to that keyboard solo.

  • Superb! Any idea where to get full video from this awesome concert? I think there is really a lack of JLP on video...

  • Jeepers - these guys are tight!

Love this early 80's sound... and yes, Rayford Griffin is a briliant player - reminded me very much of Billy Cobham.

    Thank you for this.

  • great tune ...really stretching out here...

  • I hate to use an already overused term but Rayford Griffin is a genius on the drums.

  • I can rant and rave about how appropriate Griffin is as a drummer. He is just about perfect for this song. He is beyond words.

  • ..Griffin is "Otherworldly" he is the kind of drummer that astounds, yet you never seem to hear about him...When I first was exposed to his drumming, I thought..."What planet is THIS cat from?!?!?!?!"LOLOL

  • A h, Yes, Talent !

  • who is the pianoplayer

  • Who's playing the piano? As well as posting up the video Radiomix went to the effort of posting up a listing of musicians in the band (under "more info").....Allan Zavod is on the keyboards

  • @Vextri If you like Alan Zavod's keyboard work (I do, too), check out his work with Maynard Ferguson on youtube (eg., "La Fiesta") If nothing else you may see the phenomenal Maynard Ferguson for the first time. Maynard has done more for jazz music in America than most others.

  • The crazy folks of the Ricciotti Ensemble covered this tune!

  • W O W ... (that is all I can say)

  • I attended this show, in 1991, in Porto Alegre in the south of Brazil, and the band had this same formation, for me the best until today. Jean, Griffin and company

    Dennis Magalhães

  • I'm writing that sheet music now

  • E N O R M I S S I M E !

  • saw them open for Renaissance in the late 70's. completely and totally drained after, they were putting out so much energy. I'm sure Rennaissance is a good band (or were? ;) but JLP so totally blew them off the stage it wasn't even close... and we were beginning to nod off from the drainage durring their 1st song...but to be fair we hung in there.... We walked out during Rennaissance's 2nd song LOL.

  • splendorous

  • OMG Loved it!

    Is A W E S O M E !!

  • Is it me or did JLP fib the entrance in the beginning (offbeat)???

  • I think it's just you bro

  • JLP IS SOOOO COOOOL. SMOOOOOOTH.

  • Drummer is STELLAR!!!!

  • Agreed, saw him live in about 1985 at the Syracuse, NY civic center, I think the same drummer was with him, I still remember being blown away.

  • That's drummer Rayford Griffin

  • in that video, he plays it exactly like the sheet music book. That means... extremely difficult!

  • Can you post "In Spiritual Love" fron the "Individual Choice" Album, PLEEEEAAASSSSEEE!!! Thank You!

  • Love this one, too!!

  • E x t r a o r d i n a r i o !!

  • Beautiful sound and quality!

  • great progressive stuff. This is really cool!

  • This is fantastic, and because the camera shots are soo good, I can learn it (extremely slowly) based on his exact bowings and fingerings!

    But it's gonna take a while. ;-)

  • Are you kidding? You might as well try to learn it by ear. Its an awsome tune though, must take insane amounts of practice. I always found folksy tunes the hardest because of their ridiculous string crossings. You constantly have to change the string you're "thinking on" if you get my meaning. And all at insane speeds lol. Still it would be great if I could learn this.....would take forever though lol.

  • Update: learned it! I did a recital last spring where I played Ponty's arrangement but improvised the second solo- I only transcribed the first part. I definitely didn't end up using the visuals much, you're right. ;)

  • Got it on vid or audio?

I might attempt to learn this. Maybe after a year lol. I have no where near enough control of string crossings for the head.

I could learn it if I really tried but it would take me quite a while. The rest I could probobly improvise. I'd rather wait until my technique improves in that area, then get a combo up and try this.

  • I don't, unfortunately. Probably a good thing, though; the bassist missed a couple hits and I played the thing waay too fast!

  • Great movie!!!

Do oyu have more movies of Jean play with these guys?

  • I remember many years ago flipping through the channels and stumbling into this concert on educational TV. I grabbed a videotape and recorded it. Couldn't find it now if my life depended on it. Great Stuff. please tell me there is more.

  • Thanks for sharing.. Great video.
