Logan doesn't have a full double coat so he does not shed very much; but most Poms or Mittel Spitz with full double coats do shed quite a bit at least once a year.
Aww! That's so cute. :D He looks just like my little buddy CJ (in my vids), except little. ^_^
The owner told me he was a pure pom with papers but I'm a huge dog nerd and knew immediately he wasn't one, so I pulled out one of my million dog books and figured out that he's a German Spitz. But I don't know what kind, mittel, klein...? Do you know the difference?
Lol. He is cute. I also have the same story. I was told she was a pom but when she grew up she was too big and shaped differently. I also live in Cali are you interested in studing him?
Well, lucky is turning 6 years old in july. I live in Louisiana and my dad found him as a stray pup where he works in Terrytown. I never figured out he was a german spitz till i saw this video then i looked up german spitz on google. And right now lucky is around 2 feet long not including tail. 20 lbs.
Logan is about the same size as Lucky. I am happy to have helped you find out his breed. I was told Logan was a Pomeranian when he was a puppy but then I soon realized he was too big and didn't quite fit the mold. After some research I was surprised and happy to find out his true breed and that he is not just some abnormally large pom (lol)... By the way, what great rescue story. :)
How funny, Logan is a year seven months old. I was told Logan had a brother who looked a lot like him except he was a little smaller. I got Logan in Upland California. Where did you get your dog?
I agree. I have a german Spitz of almost 10 years. I know anything bout this breed. Grew up with them, showed, bred and just love my Pascha to death...
Did you guys know that they aren't recognized as their own breed yet in the states?
Yes, when I first found that out I thought it was pretty ridiculous, especially since the breed is very popular and well recognized in Europe. It all has to do with WW1 Nazi paranoia in the states.
Well there are only 5 breeders of the german spitz in the united states. Thats why. I don't necessarily think that it has to do with WW1. I mean look at the german shepherd... but unfortunately even in Germany the german spitz dies out because the biggest breed organisation doesn't allow to breed with dogs who have different papers... to sad!
I did not necessarily mean that WW1 paranoia was the reason for them not being recognized today. It is the reason they did not gain in popularity in the past and the reason they are called other things like American Eskimo Dog. Many people in the U.S. today who have larger "Pomeranians" sadly are unaware they might very well have a perfect Klein or Mittel Spitz.
I agree. But I know there is a website where you can register your dog as a spitz and if there are enough dogs together, they will recognize the spitz as their own breed. Let me see if I can find that website again.
lol he looks like a rabbit >.<
