Gallaudet students started first. Audist and audism workshops were everywhere before JKF was elected. Deaf study at Gallaudet about deaf history is awesome and very interesting. I think Milan Congress caused deaf people to be confused about their identity and pride.
Excellent vlog! That's the whole point. It's ok to disagree, but insults? That's where Carl is out of control of. It's incredible how some folks put wool over their eyes on his behavior. I just had to say something despite trying to resolve in private email, but realize he was never sincere with me. Peace.
Hey Iammine.... thinking about setting up your own b/vlog? Would like to see you on b/vlog more often. Enjoy to see your white teeth (I mean smile). Same as you, I'm very concern, too.
We will always see disagreements going on in this deaf v/blogosphere but those dissenters cannot be controlled based on what they say or what they feel. It is all a matter of R-E-S-P-E-C-T but some go their way of expressing their point of views that are so personal. I have see hearing blogs and they made comments far off worse than what Carl said.
Nevertheless, I support your idea that I would like to see us to be more civilized when presenting disagreements.
As we know this is America, where is a land of freedom of speech. People have the right to say what they want. However to slander and libel someone or a groupare not tolerable as it causes harm to others.
Finally connect your name with a face! I agree that to agree to disagree is healthy as long as both parties mutually respect each other and debate accordingly. Labeling and dividing will not contribute anything to the process of deafhood.
Thank for clarifying why you feel this way towards Carl. I was bewildered when you typed that on his blog.
Always enjoyed your comments on blogs. You offer thought-provoking statements. Keep up!
One more thing, next time when you do a vlog, can you move more to the center so can see your signs better? Again appreciate your willing to share your feelings. :)
P.S. I used to live in Michigan for 8 years on the West side. Too bad we never met.
When you're in Washington, DC, I encourage you to visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum only to realize that we must always revisit history. After the 1880 Milan Resolution, for example, there were many Deaf mutes who were "destroyed" professionally and systematically. By denying the history of Deaf mutes, we continue to suffer audism and oppression. DeafRead is a wonderful place where closet audists are realized and revealed as the Milan Resolution proteges.
Expressing ideas and opinions are great. However if the issues become contentious, creating tensions, working together toward common goals that helps deaf community will be difficult. In embracing the diversity of our community, we need to show mutual respect for all members, including accepting their terms for themselves.

DeafRead chooses what they wish to publish. No one lights a fire under them.
Personally, I think that a little controversy is healthy, it keeps everything lively and leaves no room for boredom.
I enjoyed your video very much here, even tho I felt that the person signing in the video should have shown a little more serious expression on her face. It is extremely difficult to take someone seriously when they have a perpetual smile going on.

The truth hurts. If we become very senestive about small things...we will never change.
